  • Professional, high-functioning mothers are burning out, suffering in silence, and losing their higher sense of purpose. Dr. Agbai shares her own journey overcoming burnout and describes her three-step system to beat burnout and step back into destiny. Aligning with our highest purpose can be the antidote to burnout, and we need to give a voice to the most authentic parts of ourselves, in order to feel truly alive and able to give our best to our families and the world. Dr. Oma Agbai is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology and Director of Multicultural Dermatology and Hair Loss Disorders at the University of California, Davis in Sacramento, California. She completed her Bachelor of Science at Emory University, Doctorate of Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine, Internal Medicine internship at Pennsylvania Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and Dermatology residency at the University of California, Davis.
Dr. Agbai has authored many peer-reviewed scientific articles published in high-impact medical journals, such as the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and JAMA Dermatology. She regularly appears as a dermatology contributor on the television program "Good Day Sacramento”. Additionally, Dr. Agbai has been recognized by her peers as a Top Doctor and is a devoted wife and mother of three small children. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

A much needed reminder of spending time during the day by being, not doing. We are called human beings, not doings.

Blessed be God and Jesus Christ, the Savior, for this speech!!! I felt deeply inspired to make a couple of changes in my life. Certainly having no clarity about our purpose really gets us with much more loads than the ones we need to run the race of life, but I rejoice for I know that by having a relationship with God through Jesus we can discover it and then walk lighter. The One who died for our sins can unburden us!! Alleluia!!!

Beautiful talk!!! Thank you for sharing your ideas - I made notes and plan to focus on filling my cup more often. The time to let the mind wander is SO important. It's good to hear others validate it. To simply sit in the silence a bit each day is life-changing. Thank you for the reminder and other great ideas!

Extremely inspiring, sincere, genuine, and beautiful. Thank you dear Oma. This is a HUGE topic, and I recently lost a dear friend to suicide, and some of the emotions you talk about are some that he too had experienced. We cannot overemphasize the importance of this topic. THANK YOU for doing this talk.

Why does it feel like the speaker is yelling/lecturing me??? There are moments throughout the TedTalk where her pitch and tone matches one of a drill sargeant. Then it tones back down 😂
