You are right about him been world famous. I am a Malaysian and I can attest to fact that even now he remains a household name and his Country Roads song is possibly the most well known western song in this part of the world from all ages !

Music inspires......John's music inspired me to leave Ohio for the Rocky Mountains of Idaho where I now have lived for 40 years. I was most fortunate to meet him back stage after his concert on May 26th, 1997, 5 months before his untimely death. His music was panned and mocked by the critics of the day.....yet, like all great music, it has outlasted those critics and still resonates with and speaks to the common man, like me.....God Bless Him and I hope he's flying wherever he is now.

He is probably the most relatable artist of all time. It really feels like he is singing for the world. I have said this before, but if I could only listen to one artist the rest of my life it would be John Denver.

The first record I ever owned was John Denver's "An Evening with John Denver". This song was one of the songs from that recorded concert and was one of my favorites. That album is still one of my favorites, every song was wonderful. Thank you very much for this reaction.

I’ve given a lot of thought to JD’s voice over the years. I couldn’t quite find a way to describe what he was doing to have such command across such a range while also being able to sing out powerfully and suddenly sing a much softer passage - not by simply singing quieter - but soft, like a lullaby.
I discovered a way of singing that’s called “Mixed Voice”. It’s exactly what it sounds like. It’s a combination of belting from the abdomen but without bypassing the resonances from all the various bones in one’s head. IMHO, your head is like the soundbox of a stringed instrument. It’s what makes an acoustic guitar sound totally different from a banjo. I believe this “mixed” style of singing is exactly what Denver did.

From what I have heard, this song is a tribute to his wife. He toured all year round, and, unfortunately, ended up divorcing.
His songs are about the lyrics, or as you say, the poetic.

I'm so glad I ran into your channel today. I've loved John Denver's songs since I was a puppy. Love your analysis on his singing style. I hope you can do another analysis on his song of "The Eagle and The Hawk". I find it a challenging song because you need lungs and lots of air and you gotta sing it gloriously like a bird in flight. Thanks. (",)

His cover of Kristofferson's 'Casey's Last Ride' is heartbreaking! "Calypso" is dynamic with gorgeous yodeling, I could go on forever.. he was so good and versatile, and not strictly 'Country'. He was a folk singer, or 'Singer/Songwriter'!

    Valerie,
John was wonderful. His music was so gentle and heart-felt. Plus he was a good guitar player. I never met him, but I believe he had a GOOD heart. May GOD bless and keep him. Growing up I knew a young man who adored John. His name is Mark. He too was a tenor and a good guitarist. Not on John's level, but good. Take care lady.....

Paraphrasing Denver's own statement, he wrote this song about his wife Annie, and the amazing thing is that he wrote it within about ten or fifteen minutes while riding in a ski lift. I believe it was in Aspen, Colorado, but unsure about that.

There is only one other song about love that compares with this one - and it is “Beautiful Thing” by Grace Vanderwaal who wrote it when she was about 12.
    th-cam.com/video/C_lAgvch2PE/w-d-xo.html
It is about her love for her sister and doesn’t even include the word ‘love’. Windex even made a video commercial around her song (have tissues ready if you are a parent). It is called “The Story of Lucy” and won the TH-cam Award of the Year

John Denver was NEVER a country singer. His music played on rock 'n roll stations never on country. Been listening to him solo and before that in a folk group.
