      @@STEINBVG I browsed through your video list. The one that caught my eye was the maple stock for the AR-7. Too bad we currently have the short barreled rifle restrictions. That stock begs to be bore out to hold the barrel kind of like the Broomhandle stocks could hold the entire gun. It would have been a pretty and functional backpack gun or a great survival gun in the back of a bush plane.

    This is such an interesting trigger design! Perhaps I'll make my own to test. As for the ejector, I believe Luty's famous submachine gun uses something similar without an extractor, making it rather unreliable. Unfortunately, extractors are the hardest thing to make in amateur gunsmithing. Incredible work so far regardless! I notice you use a comma instead of an apostrophe. For reference, you should write "Don't" instead of "Don,t". Fantastic video.

      Thanks for thoughtful comment, it deserves a thorough deliberation in a reply:
      1) I,m typing in iPad, it,s easier for such spelling from a prospective of efficiency- no need to switch to another screen to type:DON’T, not an issue on PC, BUT I STILL DO IT…LAZY
      I think this way may take on if has not already. A language, especially English is an evolutionary process, from bottom up…typically, if one is not communist- those tend to make up words from the top down
      2) if you are allowed to make such a gun- go for it. You would be surprised how reliable ejection might be, because:
      3) I,m lucky to have 2 rare for the US, not cheap open bolt semiautomatic grandfathered sporting rifles. Voere2005 (Austria)and Gevarm(France). It,s postulated that such weapons are easily converted to MG- and it,s true, as there are transferable converted Voere machine guns out there, and they are very reliable to do this:th-cam.com/video/7lZhwvG-2UU/w-d-xo.html
      Both rifles have no extractors and barely ejectors. I show them in my videos. Both have huge ejection apertures. I have never had a dud on them and never failure to feed, fire or extract- NEVER. Their design is miraculous. I almost certain that famous Ruger 10/22 will loose that comparison, will choke before they do.
      Also Luty,s gun had a lot of other reasons not to be reliable…
      4)you,re correct , extractors are pain to make, but I,m capable- not an issue.I have made ones for my existing registered weapons and am in the habit of tuning them to clamp shell tight.
      But with open bolt designs light strikes /duds by a massive bolt are practically nonexistent and there,s no round in the chamber to unload- that,s a prerogative of a closed bolt design . If ammo was reliable during ww2, perhaps STEN might not have needed or used an extractor. Although it might be argued against…due to military understandable , but emotional overkill of reliability concerns

    • @STEINBVG
      @STEINBVG  หลายเดือนก่อน

      You cannot simply add a magazine. The bolt shape would have to change, the main spring and guide might need to be re-engineered because now the bolt has to pick up a round and also deliver the strike.
      But in principle it could be done. Also. The mag would have to be in front of this trigger .

    brillant! less parts = more reliability

    • @STEINBVG
      @STEINBVG  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems that not always. I,m learning that going too simple makes a system difficult to tune, to work= thus very sensitive to a very narrow spectrum of operational parameters, hence- less reliable, or rather inflexible to changes or accidents.
      It has to be just right amount of simplicity vs sophistication to be flexible= thus adoptable and reliable

  • @tenlittleindians
    @tenlittleindians 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Have you measured your trigger pull? Fuzzy bean's pistols came out with heavy trigger pull.
    I noticed your hole in the sear is more slotted than round. Does it function better like this?
    I love how you were able to keep it so simple.
    I always admire the Broomhandle pistols because the designer was able to get it all to fit together and work without using any screws or pins that most guns require.

    • @STEINBVG
      @STEINBVG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I,m not sure what is ‘hole in the seat’, are you referring the sear? It has to be slotted. In order for the disconnect function move it horizontally to and from the trigger.
      As far as the pull goes, I did it on the kitchen scale , obviously BS, but consistently it shows 3lb. I will post the video of the rig.
      I believe fuzzbeans geometry and leverages of the sear and trigger were off- the bolt side of the sear too long, and the trigger side-equal or shorter. And trigger’s sear lever is too long. Add fighting the bolt back( mine also moves) , frictions, etc that has a cumulative effect on pull .
      But subjectively my pull feels fine. Plus see how long my trigger is.
      I fought the geometry of the reset though and discovered that the trigger should not pass the sear too high. I limited it,s travel and reset became smooth. I didn,t even bother to buff the surfaces. Plus I have mild steel- that drags like malaises…Idea, I will lube things up)))

    • @tenlittleindians
      @tenlittleindians 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@STEINBVG Yes; I meant in the sear. I corrected the spell checker's mistake.
      3 pounds ain't bad at all. Polishing will only last a short while on soft steel but it's a faster and cheaper material to prototype out of compared to steels that are either harder or those that can be heat treated to make their surfaces hard. Those mini mills and lathes can have a hard time with hard materials.

    • @STEINBVG
      @STEINBVG  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the number seems good, but I don,t care- the subjective feel and secure overlap of the sear/trigger is what matters to me…
      I appreciate inputs of a few thinking guys like you on this channel, I hope we can help each other + discuss interesting projects.
      I work on proofs of concepts. I did it with bikes, built them, made interesting parts, rode a bit to test and moved on. Weapons are the same way to me- I own mechanically interesting and unique pieces. Like Luger, Whitney Wolverine, Gevarm, Voere,
      I build these prototypes of my own and others’ interesting ideas. I don,t use durable materials- even if I shot them t they would not last. But I would be satisfied if it worked for a while proofing the concepts.
      As for tools- I have have mini lathe or mill. I only have my small hands , drill press, grinder, dremel and files/ sandpaper.
      By the way , you might like my older project of making an assassination rifle from the 1970s book and movie :’The day of the Jackal’.

      Hello. In the 80's a manwrote a series of books. In some parts of the books he mentioned various aspects of gunmaking. For a series of parts where hard mating surfaces were required he suggested making fitted dovetailed pieces made from cut up hacksaw blades. I thought he also mentioned using oversized holes which required high hardness for certain pin interfaces. For this pressed in bearing bushings. He definitely also mentioned a man he knew who made copies of pistols with hand drill, numerous files, and cold chisel & hammer. This is the approach strongly suggested by the gunfitter Bill Holmes - and Clyde Baker.

    • @STEINBVG
      @STEINBVG  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@martkbanjoboy8853 Thanks. Very good info and insight I know of Holmes, Lutty, but not Baker- have to look him up.
      I'm well aware of those important gunsmithing aspects as well as obvious limitations of my creations.
      Indeed I don't rely on soft steels I use to function under harsh demands of real weapons, hitting and rubbing each other w/o wear thousands of times.
      I have stated many times that I simply enjoy making mechanical toys as proof of some concepts in gun making, to be able to show how things work internally, be able to realistically click the 'guns' a few times demonstrating the operation and clarifying understanding of the interface of the parts. Then move on to new mechanical puzzles.
