While riding in South Dakota at Get on ADV FEST I had an "encounter" with a gentleman in a side by side. The trails where great in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Ran into a bunch of SXS's over the day and never had a problem. Then this guy came along... Road rage, or Trail rage, he had it. Mad at another biker for some reason he swerved at me?? Then yelled at me and had a big fit. What would you do?

I see so many comments how "all riders think they are above the law! Good for that person to hit them and their bike!" It's wild how that can be seen as a logical sentence with thousands of likes. I'll have cars try to mess with me just because I ride a motorcycle and they've had one bad experience with a biker or watch those shorts. If that happens I just pull over and let them go on their way. Not worth my life no matter how much in the wrong they are and my actions would be justified.

Im old enough to have been in similar situations and deescalating the situation is infinitely more satisfying. I'd probably have gone one step further and approached him at the gas station, apologised that the situation happened and acknowledge that he he got scared when your mate went past... that right... acknowledge that HE got a fright. That works. People just want to know that others understand them. A quick explanation of how the others let you past and you expected the same of him and how venerable we are on bikes against their tanks. I think people learn. People do react like that when they get a fright. Education is key.
I also think guns makes zero difference (except the consequence of escalation) in this type of situation. If more people learned how to deescalate, there would be less situations to do it for.
    Great video.

I've had cagers get bent at me because another bike that I had nothing to do with blew by and scared the driver. Some folks just have "fight or flight" reactions to things like that. With emotional maturity comes the ability to tamp that down. If someone actually does something dangerous, by all means let them know you don't appreciate it, but don't try to wreck them. No winners that way.

Jake you can tell the voice that you were hopping to cultivate in him took root was in the shop, him not looking at you was the reality of his actions registering. The best way to win a fight is avoid it. If it comes down to a fight never throw the first punch but be always be ready to throw the last punch. But always remember what the goal is ladies and gentlemen it is to go home at the end of the day/trip.

    This happened last month.
It's about 11:30pm and I just got off work. I was tired and just wanted to go home but I wanted to pick up a beer beforehand so I stopped at a gas station. As I rolled up at the parking lot, some guy in his car came my way with no lights on so I revved up my engine a little to get his attention so he see's me. I noticed he stopped while I was getting off my bike and once I did, he THEW his car in reverse and parked right next to me so I jumped back on and quickly road away to the stop sign towards the main road. The guy again drove up next to me yelling at the top of his lungs "WHATS YOUR PROBLEM WHY ARE YOU RIDING LIKE A RETARD". I really didn't want to argue let alone fight so I calmly said "you came at me with no lights on, I was only trying to make myself seem bro just go away before I call the cops". He left in a hurry after that driving crazy down the road and all I could think to myself was ..I just wanted a beer 😂.

Your right on the money. That dude drives a lifted pick up and tailgates everyone he comes across. He also speeds up when someone goes to pass him on the highway then slows back down when the guy gets back behind him.

Had an a hole who was hauling unsecured wood do that to me on a 2 lane 55mph hwy. I was on my motorcycle and ended up behind him coz he was doing 45. I noticed the wood flapping around in the wind about to fly out of the truck. Which was why he was only going 40-45 in a 55 holding up traffic. Coz he didn't want the boards to fall off. So everytime I got a chance to pass, he'd speed up. Then slow back down. I finally got passed him, wanted to F him off but didn't. He might had just been too stupid to realize he was being stupid.

12:22 Exactly. It doesn't matter how well trained you are, there's always a chance that something goes really wrong. Even as someone who carries, that is a LAST line of defense that I train with so that hopefully I can squeak out of a bad situation should I ever fail to avoid it in the first place (ideally I just flat out avoid it by any means necessary).

I had some assclown do something like this the other day. Arizona legalized lane filtering in stopped traffic a little while ago, and I was doing that respectfully and under 15 mph in stopped traffic. Dude comes flying up in the turn lane 2 lanes over cussing up a storm about me "riding like a f------ idiot in traffic."
You can't reason with dudes like that. They're needlessly angry and they're not gonna listen to you no matter what you say. In the end, just keep it chill and roll on. I wages and blew him and kiss and he got even more mad 😂
I'l never understand how people out there are this angry and this wreckless.
Honest to god. Like several people have said, lay off the booze. It doesnt make you a better person. Ever

Honestly just staying calm is the better way. If the other person makes a different move to further try and harm you by throwing punches then defend yourself.

never been good at controlling my rage in situations like this. typically I just take off but that is hard to do when your riding with someone. nothing better than not letting them see your anger and going full dad mode though.

I’m a month away from 66. Out on a nice leisurely country ride on my ‘23 Grom. Came up to a T intersection, turned left onto the main road with speed limit of 60kph. There was a car behind me also turning left. This turn is on a blind hill with solid line markings. This prick decides to pull out and pass me! Forced me off the road and an oncoming car the same thing! A sudden waft of cannabis emanating from the passer.
I was so enraged I was numb! And this prick was as old as I am Lol!
I was ready to pull that prick out and bust him up. I might be 66 but a fit survivor of four older brothers and 45 yrs of construction so have no concern about my ability so I punch the throttle…on my Grom…my 125cc Grom….
Brrr-zzz-rrRR-ding-ding! Lol man I was PISSED!
But I sure gave him a piece of my mind!🤣👴🏻🇨🇦

I garuntee he was pissed because of the dust from your buddy passing him. An like you said had been dealing with that all weekend, where he's not used to it. Zero excuse to act like a complete ass like that though. I unfortunately run into these types almost everytime I hit my local off road park. And for some reason it's always guys in a brand new SXS. They spend so much on them an some guys try to treat them like a rolls Royce 😂 like dude why buy something for 50k that's meant for off road an then drive it like a grandma an get mad at everyone else for driving theirs like its meant to be. Btw you handled this PERFECTLY. Although after him trying to run you off the road I would of waited until he was out of his machine to confront him.

It looks to me like Mr SxS was not in his right faculties and was probably NOT paying attention to his surroundings. He was startled and being, maybe, impaired and a hotheaded SxS owner (aren’t they all? THATS A JOKE kinda) couldn’t let that slight go unaddressed. You my friend handled this perfectly. He has been shown to the world for who and what he is.

Jake, you called me out. I was thinking, "Man, I would have socked that guy in the jaw!" Hahaha, you did the right thing. I've found most SxS guys to have this same mentality though, they are dangerous as fuck, and typically... "Don't give a fuck!" Especially out in the dunes where I ride.
