    3/13/19 update:
    Orient USA has now named this the Kamasu. Which means Baraccuda. Everyone should now tell Alexa to play the song...
    I was going to wait until tonight to put this out, but i stayed up late finishing it. Too excited to wait. Hope you enjoy it, as well as the intro. Spent way too much time on that.
    Also if you want to see more pictures of the straps, I updated my website to show some off. I haven't been updating it lately, but this seemed like a good opportunity.

      Hi Shane, thanks for another solid review! I thought heavily about this watch, but the hour hand design puts me off compared to my "Ray II". For what this watch offers it is a very good buy for the money. Are you going to be sticking mainly with automatics now, or are more quartz reviews in the future? As always, great job.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. There always seems to be more interest in automatics, but there will be more quartz reviews in the future. It honesty just depends on what I find interesting or can get at a good price.
      I actually have a number of watches that I've been meaning to review. Kind of a backlog, and I'd say about 1/3 of them are quartz. So I can tell you a few things that are coming, just not sure when.
      The 3 that will sooner rather then later are a Oreint Neo 70s Solar chrono ( I showed it off in my year review video last week), 2 Burtuchi's, and a Cadisen Tungsten Quartz.
      I also have this one I got on black friday from Aragon. Still not sure how much I like the dial, but I paid $8 for it.
      instagram.com/p/Bq6QYZrHtpb/
      I've also had a few requests to get the Quartz Phoibos. It's not as interesting as some of their other watches, but seems like a great value watch.

    I'm very new to watch collecting. I've bought two watches based on your reviews and evaluations. My first purchase was the Orient Defender and it's fantastic! Perfect size, weight and it's so legible, important for my 59 year old eyes. The second watch, is this red Kamasu. Wow! it's simply "a real looker." It beats the pants off of everything I've bought in last 3 months. It's so good I'm thinking of returning this SARB017. Thank you for the information you've shared and your unique perspectives.

    You put me on to this watch that I got it just 2 was ago. 4 years into my collecting journey, 40+ new watches and over 6 figures invested ( H Moser, Zenith, Grand Seiko, Omega, Sinn, Longines, a ton of Seiko’s, crapper micros and many many more). I have worn this watch for 2 straight weeks, never done that ever before. Just goes to show it’s personal and not necessarily related to price, prestige etc. Bought from Long Island, just ordered the Oyster / Strapcode. Just flipped over it, I think it’s the combo of great looks, really decent quality and just crazy high value.

    I wouldn't have even considered getting the red one based on pictures on the sites that offer it but seeing it in this video really made me appreciate it more. I just really like the less sharp hands and indexes indices on the Mako though. The Mako USA is a little bit sharper and this is even sharper.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're still looking for less sharp/round indices on a dive watch, the Orient RA-AC0K01B10B retains the sapphire crystal with some other design changes that make it look less crowded. Hasn't had much coverage and in my opinion, very underrated. Just no red dial

Ordered a Seiko SRPD95, nice, but weak lume and more fashion-oriented that I was looking for. Now received my Orient Kamasu in stainless and black, and it is hands-down the nicest, cleanest, highest quality watch I've seen for under $500. Cant say enough good things about it.

This red watch, as this reviewer stated, is STUNNING. In addition to its spectacular appearance, it has gained just 5 seconds in its first three days on my wrist (1.6 sec/day). Hardly a measurement of long term accuracy but certainly a good indicator of the movement's quality. The bracelet is robust, well done and the lume is brilliant, impressive. I really scored a big win with this watch.

    That red dial is beautiful. My only problem with a red dial on a dive watch is it would look brown from about 8 feet under water and deeper. I know that would not matter to most people, but I love dials that keep their color down to 120 feet. Blue dials stay visible as deep as I have ever dived. Yellow would also be awesome.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats a good point. I didn't think about that. Have you ever dove with an orange colored diver?

    • @jefferyneu3915
      @jefferyneu3915 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I haven’t dived with an orange dial watch. I have one, but have not been diving since getting it. I suspect orange would also turn brown, based on the wavelength of the light reflected. Blue and yellow are the colors still vibrant at depth. My diving days are over unless I experience some health changes I don’t expect. I would have loved my Orange Monster as a night dive watch. BTW, night is the best time to dive IMHO. The cool critters come out after the sun goes down!

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jefferyneu3915 I've heard that. My wife has done a few night dives, but I never have. I'm still pretty amateurish when it comes to diving. Usually only when we are vacationing in the Caribbean. Did one easy wreck dive in Grand Cayman that was fun. Although I still need learn some better buoyancy control. Kept bumping my tank while going through doorways.

    I have an idea that is going to sound stupid but will help people like me out:
    Get a number of mannequin wrists or make them and get them for every 1/4 inch size from 6 to 8 or whatever you think is best. Put the watch on them and then people can judge how it might fit on them. I don't think I have seen that done before.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Strange,but not a bad idea. Do they make mannequin wrists in different sizes?
      Closest I've seen is this from Dave over at Just the Watch
      th-cam.com/video/bOJGvrFdh_g/w-d-xo.html
      Although one thing I've learned is that wrist size doesn't always determine the size of watch you wear. A lot of it is just an individuals perceptions of what looks right, and what. So sometimes you don't know until you try it. I've had people with larger wrists tell me anything over 39mm is too big, and I've had people with slimmer wrist tell me they like 45mm watches.

    • @Nefville
      @Nefville 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RelativeTime It would definitely be weird.
      The problem I see is that with so many watches bought online, you can't just try them on. Honestly it's a ringing endorsement for the physical store front.
      Like you said, there is no measurement (wrist, case, lug to lug) that sums up that X factor for fit and personal preference.
      Thanks again!

    I like the watch a lot, but the shiny finish of the case made me choose the Kamasu 2 nd gen!

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought the Kamasu 2 had the same case as the Kamasu 1, do they not? It seems like Orient is simply using the Kamasu as a platform to build a number of watches with different dials.
      Unless you are referring to a different watch, which is entirely possible. The naming situation with Orient is a complete mess right now. With multiple names for each watch, all being used at the same time. Like I refer to the Kamasu 2 as the Ray III, which is something I talk about in my recent video on the Mako III.
      th-cam.com/video/39eHVV4M38E/w-d-xo.html
      Which coincidently I've already seen people refer to as the Kamasu III, and to make matters worse it seems like Orient Japan is now simply referring to the entire line as just Mako.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually scratch that.. just looked into it and you are right. They changed the sides on that one to brushed. I thought it was the same, as everything else was. Very intersting, especially since they went back to polished sides on the one they just put out.

    It's Mako III. Orient also released Mako XL II and the most sick looking diver Ray III, which I would get if it was couple of mm smaller.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will be interesting to see what they are eventually called. A good chunk of the community has started calling them the Mako III, but Orient USA will be giving them another name when they are released here in a few months. Have to see what wins out in the long run.
      I think the main reason Orient USA is against the Mako III moniker is because it will hurt the Mako II sales. Mako II was introduced to replace the Mako I. Yet here the Mako II will continue to exist, Orient USA says it's not going to be replaced with this new one.
      Are you sure the Mako XL and Ray III aren't the same watch? I only know of one other diver Orient released. The larger one without sapphire,and I've heard it refereed to as both of those. Also heard some refer to that one as the Mako III as well.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you happen to see my video where I emailed Orient USA about these?
      The thing is, there is a lot of confusion out there on these. I googled Ray III and the first thing one listed shows the Mako IIIs. It wasn't until last month people had a good idea of size and specs on them.
      Most of the info out there are from reviews like mine, or from Orient Japans site. Which shows only 2 new divers.
      www.orient-watch.jp/product/category/?category_id=265
      The thing is Orient Japan does not name watches. They are like Seiko, they just go by model number. So some Orients are just given nicknames online and some stick. Most of the orient names seem to originate with Orient USA. They give them a name when they are released here, and that usually becomes the predominant one on the internet. Partially because they pay for advertising.
      Reason I ask if you saw my video was because when I asked Orient USA about these they told me "Despite what some unauthorized sellers are calling them, these will not be known as the Mako or Ray III"
      Now to be fair, Orient USA is not offically part of Orient. They are just the Exclusive distributor here. So do they really have more of a say in the name then the bulk of the fans? Who knows. I just know there is some confusion out there. Which is why I've temporary named mine the Mako X. A good a name as any, until a more official one solidifies. Cheers.
