Very nice content. I have operated a B220 with Mark 2 sterndrive for 20 plus years with nearly flawless performance. Looking forward to seeing this one underway again.
Youre a breath of fresh airyoung man, good old fashioned spanner work. Its so nice to see someone strip an engine down and them go through the process of rebuilding the engine, all to often you see out with theold in with the new. You're showing Mr Average that with some elbow grease and some determination anything is possible. On a different subject youre zxr brought some memories back for me as i had a ZXR750 H1 and it was the muts nuts untill i had an argument with a car and lost. My pride and joy gone but 7 months off work with full pay and a 100% payout 😊 then brought a cherry red ZX7R . Laters chuckles Gary 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thanks Gary that's very kind of you to say. I also get tired of seeing full checkbook engine builds when most of it just isn't necessary. Sorry to hear the zxr didn't make it through the years mate that were a fantastic looking bike.
Hi Tim , have you considered getting a d636 exhaust manifold and putting the turbo at the rear of the engine instead of beside the block ? This really helps reduce heat transfer into the engine
Hi Tim, Loved the old school block shave, i learnt this from old school mechanics, works perfectly, used this a couple of times using a block of wood and the correct wet and dry paper using an old steel ruler to check for flatness of surface and was able to grind the block and head flat as it had slight warping. love the rebuild series so far and will keep watching all future videos. im always waiting for the next one to come out. keep up the awesome work. Steve
Hi Tim Love your work Very inspirational I have a D190 BMW in my (Australian made) premier cruiser that I’ve done some work on Runs great I bought a new old stock sterndrive to replace the old sterndrive and a new driveshaft (just incase the old driveshaft needs to be replaced) Would you be interested in taking on this task My name is Richard Best regards
At this stage I haven't put too much thought into the transom. I am planning on running an electric lift pump then two seperate sets of CAV style filters with a water separator in each. The engine also has its own fuel filter. I haven't figured out how I'm going to do the return line in the tank yet either lol
As far as main bearings are concerned there are a number of sizes of main bearings available for undersize crank mains because of rebuilding and crank main honing can reduce the overall diameter of the main. So, unless you are 8 or 9 thou undersize there are bearing available to make sure you have the proper clearance. now, if those bearings are available or not may be another factor altogether, but I've seen guy pour his own babbot bearings and machine them to the proper size because the availability was...nonexistent. But that was for an engine that was considerably older than yours, say by about 100 years. but where there's a will, there's a way
Unfortunately I'm finding a lot of parts for the engine are difficult to get in anything other than standard. After I checked it with plastagauge I found the clearance to be fine.
Mate I have had my fingers in a few engines in my day and never seen those main bearing holder thingies. I didn’t see how they are bolted to the block. Must be spring there.
@HarpersBoatShed driven a few diesels as well. Back in the 90s chev had the bright idea to turn a bunch of the small block 350 Cid into diesel engines. Went as well as expected cracked heads galore. So we started them ( work truck) and left them running all day.
Morning Tim. Enjoying your channels. Don't know if you're interested. I have a dial bore guage that I no longer need and I'm willing to donate if you have a use for it. Cheers Jeff.

Wow, you know your shit man. I am about to dive into a BMW airhead motorcycle engine to the same degree. You have shown me so much. Thanks.
Thanks mate I'm glad I could help you in some way with your own projects 👍

Thanks mate, I also have the mark 2 drive to go with the engine so fingers crossed I get the same reliability you have experienced in your setup

Good episode 👍Tim keep the momentum going bud😉
Thanks mate, hopefully the parts supplier can get me the last few bits and we can get it all done 👍
ps the crank came up great. good job.
Thanks mate
Most importantly, CHECK THE OIL PUMP. Cheers
The oil pump and housing appear to be in very good condition with very little wear
Nice one Tim
Thanks mate

I would love to put a set of 636 manifolds on but unfortunately not very common around here. They're a much better design then the 190 units.
I have lots of parts for these engines , I’ll have a look into shipping and let you know
@@jollyskipwhere are you located mate?

Thanks mate, yeah you can certainly take some height off with course paper It works well 👍
I accidentally rebored a sleeve on a 2.0 Ford engine using the 3 stone and diesel as lubricant. Was my first time doing honing.
Yeah it's very easy to go to far if you have a good sharp hone.
So far so good Tim and I have used that 'grease' before and it works well. :)
We have a few tubes of it kicking around. It comes as part of a rebuild kit when you buy them from Diesel Australia 👍
Loving this rebuild. Hope it purrs!!
Me too mate, glad you're enjoying the build 👍
I want to rebuild an e30 bmw, my father had one and i sold it after he passed 17 years ago
The E30s seem to be getting a bit more expensive and hard to come by these days mate. If that's something you want to do mate then go for it 👍

What are your plans regarding rebuilding the stern to take the weight an extra fitting of fuel tanks filters etc..

There are side bolts that go into each plate to stop them spinning. I will be sure to point them out in the next video mate 👍
