This is lovely! The way they layer and the lines created within the build up oil pastel actually remind me somewhat of Van Gogh's paintings. I imagine a master study of his work would be incredibly fun to try with them. Not saying you have to do this or anything as you seem to prefer master studies of more precise work, I'm just musing is all.
That's so interesting - Van Gogh's self portrait is at the very top of my list right now for the next master study! 😆 I want to experiment more with rougher textures and more expressive "brushstrokes" so this is super encouraging to read! Thank you!
Thank you for this informative video dear! I enjoyed watching the process! You've spoilt me so much that I can't wait for my oil pastels ro arrive so I can finally experience not being able to paint as nicely as you 😂 but for real, I've been thinking about how to best seal the paintings since I only have regular fixative. Do you find it works well as a stand alone method since I'm still lacking any other way to seal my work? I'll eventually but an acrylic sealant or something but I'm still a bit overwhelmed.
Thank you so much for your kind comment! I hope your oil pastels arrive soon - they're so much fun, and I hope you'll truly enjoy drawing with them, no matter what! And it's really easy to improve with them, even if everything's messy at first 😆 While I used satin varnish here, that's mostly because it's part of a series and all the other (Acrylic) eye paintings have a satin/glossy varnish, too. The fixative I used was just for regular graphite and charcoal, and I think it works well if you'd like to just hang up the painting at home, place it near your desk or in a frame... I have a couple paintings finished that I just used the spray on and they're looking good! 🥰 I'd be scared to ship it like that, though, so if you plan on making gifts, for example, that's something to keep in mind! Though apparently wax paper is great as a temporary cover. :) But I think you'll be fine with what you have!
Thank you for letting me know! At the moment I don't have plans for the paintings I will make as I would like to ensure my painting and sealing methods word before I jump on shipping art etc. I planned on painting inside sketchbooks and you know how pages squeeze with each other especially if you stack your sketchbooks one over the other. That's why I asked if the normal fixative would suffice. Since you did not have any issues, I guess I'll use that and pray some so that I don't ruin my work and then I'll get me some acrylic sealant to be extra sure 😊💕
It definitely helps if you leave the sketchbook open for a day or two so the pastels can dry a bit! And also, wax paper can help separate the papers :)

Another wonderful video and review. I will have to re-visit some of my abandoned pieces where I stopped in the ugly stage!!
Haha, that ugly stage can be rough! Looking back, I probably abandoned way too many drawings because of that... :"'D

Thank you for watching 💙
