just found your channel. I have been writing for more than 35 years and mostly as a hobby and for friends. recently I have been considering publishing my books, but I am not sure if I want to self-publish or traditional publish. I write sci-fi and fantasy. 184 novels so far with seven different series. also, a huge space opera writer and fan. just curious what your publishing experience has been like.
Wow that’s a lot of books!! Welcome to the channel, glad to have you here! 😀 As for my own publishing experience, I’ve always written for myself, so I just went into self-publishing figuring that if I’ve already written something, might as well make it available online. I didn’t really have fame or fortune in mind. Honestly, I never really did a whole lot to promote it, but I happened to do reasonably well, at least better than average for self-publishing authors. I’ve been able to sell enough to make some money on the side (you wouldn’t know it from how few reviews I’ve managed to accumulate, which is endlessly frustrating). It’s only in the past two years or so that I actually started putting in more effort into getting my name out there. I like the freedom of self-publishing, but it’s definitely a lot of work, and since I work full-time, it’s hard to dedicate the kind of time I’d need to in order to really market my books. So, in the meantime, I’m just trying to help people out with what I’ve learned along the way, because I ended up having to navigate self-publishing without any real guidance, and I don’t want others to have to do the same 😁
