I appreciate this teaching, AND i think i prefer to use "I am open to forgiveness" - rather than "i forgive you" (when i don't), which can feel forceful to the hurt inner-parts. I think it can work just as well- if not even better. One can also add an "i forgive to the parts in me that need things to be different"- as a further way to soften & open. (I'm and IFS trained practitioner).
