Even during daylight a lumed dial is very attractive, it somehow makes it look like a beige color dial with lots of contrast, but that it doesn't hack is a real bummer, a pilot watch needs to be readable and hackable imho

Thanks for the great review Bruce. I agree that the biggest let-down is the Miyota movement (none-hacking). It's the only reason I sold my Laco Augsburg pilot watch, which was fantastic otherwise.
A recent video from Shane at relative time showed a hacking 821a movement and miyota confirmed they have updated it. Just for the 821a though, not the 8215. So these watches may have hacking when they buy in more movements.
You're completely right. In the future those movements will have the hacking second and we will also offer those of course. But at the moment we offer them as shown...
I'm a big fan of Laco and I've looked at this watch but the greenish dial is just not that attractive to me. I'd have skipped lume for a white dial. Still it is great to see a review of this piece. One quick thing... Would this not be more of a deck watch than a pilot watch? Thanks for the review.
Cool watch .have you tried back hacking im not sure if miyota movements do it when in time set hold the crown firm and go backwards not even a mm and the seconds hand will stop or go backwards if it goes backwards ease off till it just holds .would love to know how it works out for you please update us if it works because it might make a lot of people still like it
I have two Lacos (Aachen, Augsburg) with the same movement and yes, you can apply back-pressure to hack the movement when the power reserve is low. Much harder to do when fully wound.

I've been looking for a fully-lumed dial pilot watch but have balked at paying the asking price for the Damasko DA43 or DA47. I own two Lacos with this same case and movement and have to say that I adore them. I thought that the non-hacking Miyota movement would drive me bonkers but in reality it hasn't and like the Speedmaster back-pressure on the crown can be applied to do a pseudo-hack when the power reserve is low. Small correction: My guess is that the case back is made of mineral glass at this price point.
Bruce I like you, but if you build a collection with watches like this and some others that you review, you will be spending thousands on shitters. Better to buy one or two luxury watches that will last a couple lifetimes, than 10-20 Laco's, Alpina's and Seiko's.
Good affordable option! And that lume will please any lume junkie. By the way, it's considered a "Navy" watch instead of "Pilot".
True it is under the Navy segment, but it shares the pilot case and has pilot cues

Yes. 36 mm is a great size. I kind of prefer 34 mm but under 40 mm is tasteful as a dress watch or smart casual

There is a black PVD version called the Casablanca and the contrast between the light colored lume dial and the black case is awesome.
