    Transparent display is very important for the future AR glasses. The display isn't there yet. But this is how you get there. The display needs to be as transparent as normal glasses. It's like 50-60% there. This is the most important display technology right now.

      @AlexFoster2291 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      Cant happen. There are LEDs embedded in that screen. They will always block light coming from the other side. They cannot exist in another dimension. And light going through a piece of glass with bits inside of it will always appear darker than if there were not LEDs in there.

    • @Alex-hv3ir

      Or they could just do like they do now and use a decent camera with a much better display. It probably isn’t as much cost effective or lag free as a transparent display but it will also make it a worse VR device since you cannot fully block the light. With that display.

      The way current ar glasses work is to use the pepper's ghost setup where light doesn't pass thru the display but is reflected at 45 degrees off a prism/birdbath optics. This way you can see the display but also everything else through the glass optics.

      @@AlexFoster2291 not necessarily. That's only applicable in a context where image and the surface where image is rendered is flat. Lenses are not flat, nor the way the eye renders images. I do see a lot of ways to make partial projections or even pixels that with some angle can create the required partial rendering that is needed for AR, which is the most complex task for this application. I work in Geospatial imaging software and you kind of build a geo image based on various features and angles to achieve a desired projection (for instance in images with multiple layers of sensors). Considering pixels are like small colored directional light bulbs it could be possible to use that to build projections suited for the eyes with only a fraction of the surface that is generating the image. The meta quest pro already handles pretty well eye tracking doing the rendering with a camera based AR, so we kind of know where to point. This tech + directional pixels + eye tracking tech + some months worth of meta/apple/samsung engineers could get us there pretty fast 😝

    I'm using a Samsung Viewfinity S8 27" 4K monitor and the anti-glare coating is incredible! I haven't seen anything like it either from Dell or other brands. They really nailed the balance of the picture quality, grainy texture, and anti-glare as well. I kept wondering when will they bring this to they're TV lineup so finally here it is. Proposal: Layer 10-15 transparent displays in front of each other, and display holographic/volumetric video that displays on each consecutive layer. Then, at the back have a panel of Privacy Smartglass which can be turned opaque or transparent with the switch of a button. "Privacy Smartglass, also referred to as privacy glass or switchable glass, is electric switchable glass with adjustable opacity. It uses electro-chromatic technology to interchange between transparency and an opaque state by applying voltage." would love if 8k really goes mainstream… but even 4k is not fully available. due to the big jump in bandwidth required with 8k videos i doubt broadcasters and production houses would be going that route anytime soon. what is more likely to happen is videos with higher nits which won’t involve any bump in bandwidth. that is one reason why Sony is ditching OLED TVs this year and showcasing Mini LED TVs with 4000 nits.

      8K is not necessary needed, it won't provide that much better quality than we get now with 4K, the biggest supplier to future use in fact is the transparent screen. This will provide real sci-fi application to tablets, phones, AR Glasses, this is the future. I'd much rather we focus on transparent technology vs. 8K technology, if we can have glasses vs. a wall mounted TV that is light, long lasting, and offers clear fidelity and sight beyond the picture then a TV won't really be necessary in the future as you'll have that already in your glasses. I see this as the next tech boom, transparent displays will boost our next technology drive.

      @@soccergoku24 this technology can be useful for many fields i agree
      But not for cellphones, at least not till you have battery consume issues and need a camera anyway for AR
      Transparent no frame/no cover phones are more easy to break
      Privacy is also another problem, i see more “roll screen” in the future of smartphones

    I wonder if any of these companies might start to research using a layered system of several transparent displays, with the last one begin solid, to create full, Stereoscopic 3D.
    If someone could invent a really good 3D TV, without glasses and without that "Sweet spot" issue with "glassless" 3D displays, then 3D TV could make a comeback in a big way.
