  • For those seeking a solution to a 35" tire fitment problem on a Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, AEV has developed the Highmark Fender Flares. The Highmark Fender Flares are designed to be installed on a ZR2 or ZR2 bison to allow for a 35" tire at stock suspension height with the proper wheel with a 24mm offset. Each ZR2 application will have a different kit to accommodate the differences in the front fascia / bumpers. Here I'm covering the Rear Fender Flare installation.
    This is an advanced installation which will require up to 16 hours to complete for both front and rear involving cutting sheet metal and plastics, using panel bonder adhesives and some patience. The results are impressive so while the investment in time is high, the payoff in fitment is awesome.

    In the video, I cover how I completed the installation on my ZR2 Bison with the means and skills I have. See what I did and figure it out for yourself or when in doubt get it installed by a professional.

    How's the performance of the truck with the bigger and heavier 35" tire now?

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Road performance is always a compromise with bigger, less supportive heavier tires but off-road I have zero complaints. Full well knowing the cost to performance of the taller and heavier tires, I was always planning a supercharger to make the hit on engine performance unnoticeable. The bigger tires do the job they were intended to on the dirt. Better traction in loose or muddy surfaces, better contact patch under deflation, more resistance to damage and better ground clearance.

      @@tomwito561 you are correct about the wheelbase. The rear flares are made for the CC/SB not the CC/LB. My comment was only that it will fit a base LT, z71, trail boss, or other non-ZR2 but it does need to be the 5.2 Ft bed

    After watching your video so many time i just noticed you have a helper leaf pack in the back? or something like that, i have watched most of your videos and have not seen it! what is it?

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was trying to keep the rear sprung high enough with the defective factory leaf springs ... They were replaced shortly after this video. I had used some Hellwig Suspension helper spring parts some friends there provided. These are not technically part of a kit offered for the ZR2. I can ask to find out which parts they were if you really need to know.

    • @samiargos
      @samiargos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found them on their website! Thanks for the reply! Can you just tell me about ride quality? I really like the idea of being able to add them for camping trips and then take them off with only 2 u-bolts, but I cannot find much info about their ride quality.

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@samiargos With the amount of weight I carry, the ride quality was not changed. When i was empty and running them it was a little firmer but definitely not too firm. The add a leaf has a more pronounced effect on ride but was a necessity with the last few modifications and added gear.

    Howdy! I’ve watched this video multiple times and finally ordered my highmark flares. Quick question: The tires in the video look like 33‘s which I’m needing to burn up over the next five months before I upgrade to 35’s in spring. Can you confirm what tire size I’m looking at in the video? As always appreciate your videos and look forward to seeing what you do with your Rubicon!

    Old thread, I know…. Question for the OP. I went to Harbor Freight and checked out some of the tools you used. The issue I ran into was the size of compressor needed to run the air saw.
    The guy there said I would need at least a 20 gallon tank-bigger the better above that? Otherwise it would stall out & cause a jackhammer effect; resulting in body damage. I realize fine tooth blades might mitigate this, but it freaked me out a little. Large volume/high CFM compressors are pretty pricey!

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Colorado fender is very thin metal... I'm guessing, but 20ga seems right. I have used a 10 ga tank without issue but taking your time with a regulated supply and watching your tank pressure should not be an issue.

      @classiiimalfunction722 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@exhaustinglife Sounds good! I ended up going with the other brand air saw they sell (cheaper one) due to the CFMs required; 4 vs 8 at 90 psi.
      I have the High Marks coming this week! Your videos are super helpful. Sad to see it looks like your moving on to a Silverado? I’ve pretty much copied your Bison build…. S&B cai, Magnaflow Overland exhaust., Peak coil overs/UCAs.
      I appreciate you following up! Merry Christmas!

    I would like to know more about your anti-wrap kit.

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually its not an anti wrap spring its just a helper for the stock rear ZR2 leaf springs which were completely shot. It could easily be used for anti wrap if it was in the front position but these were just to survive while the warranty parts were on order. Hellwig make a complete selection of helper springs and sway bars for the Colorado and now ZR2

    This would be 10x easier if the stencil was a sticker

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem of the sticker would be stretching. Even thick vinyl will stretch and not lay flat. The paper works great in making you lay the template flat.

      it is, but I can see why in handling the materials how expensive it would have been to make the second molds and do the testing to see how they would impact usage. I was originally hell bent on a ZR2 6 ft bed but due to the lack of support went the ZR@ bison 5.2
