Always when I play Portugal and do the colonial game you have to focus on caribia and when you have a colonial nation established (at least 5 provinces colonized ++ trade centers). After Caribia straight to Mexico because of all the valuable gold there. You can focus on the Peru region too because of the gold. You will get a very powerful Portugese empire because your colonial nations with gold provinces will give 50% of their yearly gold income (so huge amounts of ducats!!). To achieve this you have to take the first idea exploration and then the next idea has to be expansion to get +2 colonist and other modifiers. Diplomatically you can break the alliance with England it doesn't bring you any benefits and they are going to just hinder you and drag you to pointless wars. Ally Castille and pretty much you're safe from all threats. You can expand to Morocco's coast. In this game trade is a huge part of the money making, so you have always have to conquer trade provinces especially in your home node (Sevilla) and other nodes that are connected to your home nodes that bring trade to it for example: Ivory Coast, Caribbean are the most important. You can put traders to steer the trade towards your home trade node Sevilla to get even more money. Sorry if I brought some old information that somebody else said already but there is a some what quick guide. I just really enjoy playing Eu IV and sometimes the game can be little frustrating because the complexity. Hope this helped a bit! Keep up the good work! ps. you can ask more questions if you want of course!
@@tuomaskarhapaa4932 thanks…. By Caribia do you mean the Caribbean. Do I want a colonial nation? What is the cost of breaking the English alliance? How hard is it to take provinces in Morocco?
Yes sorry I meant Caribbean. English isnt my first language. 😅 Yes you always want colonial nations because they can expand by themselves. In my colonial gameplay I just make 5 colonies -> colonial nation and move on to another place. Basically breaking the alliance doesnt cost you anything. You can ally England later on if you want in Eu IV diplomacy is very fluid and changing but atleast in the start of the game it doesnt bring you any good. You can just keep the alliance until you made your mission and break it after that. Taking provinces from morocco isnt impossible, but you need help from Castille. With Castille it’s very easy to beat Morocco. The system of alliances and are very important and help you to win wars and to not get attacked etc. But diplomacy is always changing in this game that’s the part of the reason Eu IV so fun! Okay hope this helps! 👍
Perhaps play as Castille, should be a bit more forgiving and no shame in that scince you are new to the game. England might be a good option as well but you start being at war with France I think (100 years war).
Yeah Castille isnt the beginner nation anymore because the early civilwar and it’s just little bit more harder to get colonial game going. You have to tend to more politics on the mainland too. With Portugal you can just chill and have a fun Colonial game.👍
