    2:35, my guess would be that once the wood gets wet with contaminants it may conduct current, it is always better to use a heavy gauge plastic to ensure no current leakage. An old piece of Corian cutting block would be perfect.

    May be a dumb question but what do you do for drying/cleaning the bores how do they not rust from the water?

      Not dumb! I spray the whole engine with WD40 and for the bores I use paper towel or a rag with ATF on it
