About six years ago I saw the Avett Brothers and they opened with this song. I sang along loudly with my proudly backslidden self having growing up with traditional music in a fundamentalist church. A few months later I thought of it while sitting with my mom in her hospice bed. I brought this video up and played it while we had a little sing-a-long. That is the last thing we ever did together and I will cherish it forever. For six years whenever I am sad I'll play this video.
I played and sang this version on my guitar to my child's great grandmother as she was on hospice. I have thr video on Facebook. I might have to upload it to here
This is perhaps my favorite hymn of all time. The Avett Brothers happen to be my favorite band of all time..... Words cannot explain the excitement that fills my heart when i hear this!
I think Bob sounds great on this one. It's cool to hear his vocals so prominent. I think he sang a lead part on one of the tracks off the Avett Brothers latest album too.
Singing along with you at my mother's hospital bedside tonight. You all are forever woven into the fabric of our lives...and of whatever follows. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I always wonder if majority of the Avett fans out there realize how amazing it is when a band from today's age busts out a song about Jesus. The Avett brothers, you guys are amazing.
I Love it when they do this song at their show. It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The purest and most heartfelt music I've ever heard comes from this family.
Same here. not religious in the least bit. But I LOVE hyms and I love gospel tunes. ESP when these fellas do them. Pearly gates is one of my favs, as well. LOVe you BOBBY
Awesome. Just heard this at a show in Richmond for the first time. I really love when Bob sings with them. He's so endearing when he sings. Scott and Seth, of course, are masters. They're all so talented it makes my soul ache.
Yes!!! I love this, oh how I hope they play this when they are out here in Los Angeles. They played when they opened for Social D, it was such a surreal experience to hear them play that in front of some many people who most likely wouldn't listen to that kinda music. Thank you for playing it for those of us who love it. God bless you Avett Brothers
Does anybody else want to hear the Avett Brothers play "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" or John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High"? I think it would be earth shaking...
Ryan, "on accident" of course? or could they be traitors or alien invaders? You would have to be satans' spawn to "dislike" this? THANK YOU FOR CREATING, POSTING AND SHARING THIS HISTORIC AND MORALLY STRENGTHENING MUSIC. God Bless and A Dios, the ONLY practical, functional and sustainable way to go.

@@dannyastro87ago for it! Sorry to hear about the loss. Better place now for sure
So sad, yet beautiful. Hope all is well.
An album full of these songs, recorded pretty much as crude as this, would be a fan favorite without question. Why haven't they done this yet!!!
four thieves gone has a similar, raw sound to it.
This is perhaps my favorite hymn of all time. The Avett Brothers happen to be my favorite band of all time..... Words cannot explain the excitement that fills my heart when i hear this!
I love you mom. RIP. God bless...
I'm really hoping someday they put together a little gospel album of all their favorites!
I truly enjoy your Gospel. I Love all of your music, but I appreciate these very much.
I love Bob. He really does bring a great harmony and soul to the group.

Who with me my burden shares? ❤️
Arguably one of their best vocal performances. This is wonderful.
These guys understand that it's about the moment, just as much as it is about the music.

Awesome!
What we need is an Avett Bros gospel album, please!!
Never grew up with gospel as a Catholic in the Midwest but we sang this. Maybe with different lyrics but I love this. Wish we sang it more like this.
I may not be a man "of god", but i enjoy listening to The Avett Brothers any chance i get. It's also good to see Bob again.
I always wonder if majority of the Avett fans out there realize how amazing it is when a band from today's age busts out a song about Jesus. The Avett brothers, you guys are amazing.
"daily walkin close to thee" sends chills down my spine everytime they sing it together
Aww, that's really pretty harmony. It's great to see Bob once again.

What amazes me is that Scooter falls right back into perfect harmony even though he's clearly ready for bed.
I love Bob Crawford. He completes the Avetts perfectly.
Let it be dear lord, let it be.
11 people accidentally hit the dislike button. This is down right beautiful.
Lol, so true, who in the world could dislike this beautifulness!
