The way the Avetts sing these gospel songs are always the best renditions. I saw them at Roots, Blues and Barbeque in Columbia, Missouri last year, and they sang this one. It was absolutely amazing.
This song is a sweet memory from my childhood. I remember my foster mother singing this every Sunday after church. Thought it was the prettiest thing I'd ever heard, and I still have a fondness for this song.
There’s something beautiful about these old revival songs, the yearning to be near to God and the strong message of redemption makes me choke up after everything I’ve been through. When the world with all its fake empathy failed me, God and His church was waiting for me to come back with open arms.
I come to the garden alone, While the dew is still on the roses; And the voice I hear, falling on my ear, The Son of God discloses. Refrain: And He walks with me, and He talks with me, And He tells me I am His own, And the joy we share as we tarry there, None other has ever known. He speaks, and the sound of His voice Is so sweet the birds hush their singing; And the melody that He gave to me Within my heart is ringing. I'd stay in the garden with Him Tho' the night around me be falling; But He bids me go; thro' the voice of woe, His voice to me is calling.
I took a video of them singing this song at their concert in Kalamazoo earlier this year. It's really cool finding it here, cause there were a lot of really disrespectful people making noise at the concert. And they sing this song so beautifully. I love the Avett brothers!!
This was my late grandmother's favorite hymn - I just had a little spell listening to it (three or four times) thinking about her. Thanks for doing it and, to repeat those below, while I'm not a religious man - I'd love to hear a gospel album by you guy
I just have to comment again, I watch this weekly. Such a wonderfully written song about the love of our Savior and so beautifully done by these fellas.
I love this. It reminds me of my mom as it’s one of her favorites. Plus my mom grew up in the Lutheran Church in Nebraska and they often sang this at funerals or her relatives. We didn’t in Catholic Churches and I don’t know why as this doesn’t seem like it disagrees with any of that doctrine, but I love it and this is bar none the best version.
These old hymns all have spiritual beginnings , that's why this song written in the early 1900s has been recorded over 1 million times, Amazing Grace even older and more recordings, Blessed Assurance written by Fanny Crosby a blind lady another old hymn that's stood the test of time. Read about Charles Austin the author of this beautiful hymn. Before calling the Bible a fairy tale I suggest you read it , take the time to study it and see how it ties together in perfect harmony just like these beautiful old hymns.
When sung by slovenians, in english, it sounds slovenian. I go to a slovenian church (st joes), which was built by slovenians and its really beautiful, which explains everything, am i right?
The way the Avetts sing these gospel songs are always the best renditions. I saw them at Roots, Blues and Barbeque in Columbia, Missouri last year, and they sang this one. It was absolutely amazing.
An album of old gospel songs would be awesome.
That would be awesome!!
A live album!
Yes, please!
Is this Greg Cox, THE Greg Cox, from TU? Great comment, brother!
Wayne Dietrich I am the Greg Cox, but not from TU I dont think.
This song is a sweet memory from my childhood. I remember my foster mother singing this every Sunday after church. Thought it was the prettiest thing I'd ever heard, and I still have a fondness for this song.
Same for me, but it was my grandma.
Thank you, God, for giving us this special heritage and connection!
This takes me back. Four years old, grandma is making fried chicken, and life was so very simple.
Wish we could go back
The good Lord is smiling at His talent being spread so beautifully.

Amazing, I love how they all have their eyes closed by the end but are still all singing so deeply together.
❤️
My Mum is in Heaven , she loved this and this is just a beautiful rendition . She now shares this joy with Jesus . You guys are special .
