I am too. The expression on his face as he saw his family for the first time in 12 years was heartbreaking. It was hope, fear, joy, love, and pain all rolled up in one. He had been holding on to this hope that he would see his family again and be free for 12 long, excruciating years and when he finally got them back again....when he finally came home and had his name restored and his family was there.....his first reaction is to apologize. My heart broke for him. And then, when he held his grandson and his daughter told him that the child was named after him, he just wept. I think that was the moment he felt like he was finally free.

It creeps me out that his lovely family is standing there in their fine home in very nice clothing, probably educated and mentally contrasting that to the people of their same race living in rags in the South. All because of an imaginary line between Pennsylvania and Maryland.

So a 'good guy' is an educated man with family values-- who's loyal to his wife; helps raise his own kids, works hard, obeys the law, doesnt do drugs and abhors the thought of someone else steeling the fruits of his labor?

Every country has had some history that was awful... all races have been slaves or held slaves at one point in history this isen't specific to the US. Slavery is still ongoing in Africa today.
I think the worst I have ever read about was what happened in the former Soviet Union their communist revolution.... unbelievably horrific....hard to believe that there are americans who actually advocate for communism today.
That said today the USA is the greatest country in the world....the rights you have under your constitution....don't ever let the Democrats undermine it in anyway....

Still it is reprehensible how black people were treated back then in the south. Even peasants in Russia were treated more humanely by the tzars.
