Another great CtB, Mike. How people wish to collect, is a matter for them... until they start destroying historically-significant documents, and pasting fragments of them into cards. It should be, at best, discouraged. Regarding the sale of Wemby's playing jersey... I was initially on the side of the pitch-fork brigade, baying for the blood of the parents for having the AUDACITY to put it up for auction (at, you guessed it, Goldin!); I then came to the same conclusion as you - 'to Hell with it... you do you'! I find it more ridiculous that a man can become a BILLIONAIRE through bouncing a plastic ball on a small wooden court, against five other men doing the same thing, with the sole objective of throwing it into a basket for arbitrary points (not having a go at basket-ball, per se, just trying to make sense of it). Compare and contrast the wages of the top-level basket-ballers, with that of 'real' people, with 'real' jobs, working 'real' hours, for the average wage... yet still struggling to make ends meet. Yes, the family probably acquired the jersey under false pretences, they had court-side seats, so probably aren't struggling financially - and the optics are far from great for them in this instance - but if the sale of that jersey can send their kid through school, or buy a house, or be donated to a charity, then that is life-changing. Pretty easy for their detractors to stand on their moral high-ground, when they're not the ones with the jersey in their possession. It's certainly an interesting dilemma to have and, if anything, highlights the absurdity of the values society places on polyester, fleetingly worn by a sports 'star'. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Mike. 👍
@JunkWaxHero I don't think selling the jersey will affect the memory of the occasion-- and if the effect is something like paying for college, it is well worth it to sell. Regarding that quad comedian card, I saw George Carlin days after his 69th birthday, and the show was so hysterical because he just kept yelling, "I'm 69!" I would never sell that ticket stub for any amount-- but as I sit writing this, I'm next to a ball signed for me by Ken Griffey Jr at Joe Martin field in Bellingham, WA, in 1988. I'd give that to someone if it gave them immense joy. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you just can't possibly know what 'value' means to someone. Anywhooo, great epi as always-- love the channel!
I have 99% of my autographs done in person. I send them to Beckett, they take my money, and they tell me there not authentic. I had them signed in person. Whatever there doing isnt working so this story is perfect. Needless to say I'm done sending autographs to get graded. I'll just keep them for myself. Shame there is no consistency with grading across the different companies.
I opened 2 blasters and 10 hangers of Archives, more than half the cards were scratched to hell… machine roller marks. Called Topps , they don’t give a shit. Frustrating.
Hey Mike, I Opened some 2024 Topps Archive Baseball Yesterday and Actually got an Autographed David Eckstein Card instead of just the Slip of Paper. The Quality Control Guy must have been working the Day my Cards were packaged..............
Hi Mike. I always enjoy your Clearing the Bases episodes. Hopefully the parents take the money from the Wemby Jersey and like you said, save it for the college education. The two people selling the fake autograph memorabilia need to spend a long time in prison. It puts a black eye on the hobby. Thanks, for sharing, enjoy your Sunday.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Topps puts the Series 1 Black parallels as special chase cards inserted in Series 2 product to incentivize sales of Series 2 if the rookie class is weak. Unlikely, but wouldn’t put it past them.
I'm willing to bet there's a lot of fake slabbed autographed cards out there. There's no way any grading company can have enough autograph experts to authenticate thousands of different athletes signatures. There are people out there who are experts at forging autographs.
Topps should buy the toddler jersey and make a Game Held Victor Wembanyama toddler Jersey card. Would still be better than 99% of the game used cards being made these days.
I know they are iconic for the time period but i have an issue with both cards from junk wax era making top 10 sports cards of all time. Theres a lot of iconic vintage cards that deserve that spot. Just postwar mays rc and koufax rc jump out as better options.

My email took me to the same page, but I wasn't logged into Topps and tried again. Went back to the email and it gave me the same page again. I guess the benefits are top secret. 😁 I think I got it was because, I got my final Topps order this week. I stopped buying from them months ago but the last card was ordered on July 14, 2024.

Wemby could sign the kids jersey and auction it off. it would be interesting to see what it would sell for. he could put it on his hand and it would officially be "player worn"

My theory is that he is slightly miscast. You know when your daughter gets the lead role in the play but she should really be second banana…😂 A very, very subtle clue is his habit of repeating lines, especially what could be a punch line. He doesn’t know how to dig deeper naturally so he repeats himself. Great Talking heads know how to avoid that. The viewer senses all this and we figure he must be evil.
