I’ve never once met a cat owner that worried their cat was being abused by being owned. It’s legitimately just a let alone at that point. Literally nothing could’ve happened at an ownership level alone. I swear cat owners will be illegal in a few years just because “Natural instincts say owning cats is abuse.”
Keeping your pets inside isn’t abuse. In case y’all didn’t know, they stay inside to be safe 🤷🏼‍♀️

My outdoor cat lived to 18. We now have an eight month old indoor cat and a puppy and they do play together but sometimes it gets too rough and one’s jealous of the other. When we let the puppy outside to run around the cat cries at the window and I feel sorry for her.

Well at least you know she’s safe. You’re doing the right thing. Maybe someday you could get a kitty outdoor room thing or whatever they’re called. An outdoor enclosure for cats attached to your home, you can read up on them. Like a sun room for cats, it’s like a cage so they can feel the breezes and have fresh air.

Back when I had cats, their favorite environment was in a medium-sized backyard that I fenced off. From a human perspective, it was basically just an overgrown backyard with some untended small bushes and trees, as well as some random building projects and non-metal scrap, but to my cats, it was a _euphoric_ killing ground. I tell ya, cats are surprisingly vicious creatures, and if you allow yours to show their predatory nature, you'll realize that a lot of their social ways are based on sadism and showboating.
A tip that wasn't mentioned in this video: if you wanna allow your cat to enjoy vertical spaces but you don't have a lot of money or general resources, just having a few cat-accessible empty shelves can do wonders for them. I also recommend getting jingly toys for them, or just letting them into a more natural space so that they can kill something. It may sound strange or even vulgar to us, but to cats, it's preem enjoyment. It could be a ladybug, it could be a mouse, but it's a great substitute if you don't have the money for toys. Just don't let them wander off into the woods without paying attention to where they go or enticing them back to safety with food if necessary, because there's a chance they'll get too wild to want stay at your house or die, but usually they come back in a few days in case you're worried. I only had two cats out of probably half a dozen or more over the years that ended up going feral or wandering off and never being seen again, and pretty much all of my cats ended up occasionally disappearing if they weren't exclusively inside.
If you need to attach emotional identifiers to cat psychology, then think of them as independent, hedonistic and mildly narcissistic creatures that don't like to be touched without their explicit permission, who also like to be as free and tactically safe as possible. It's always important to remember that cats are small predators, so their instincts tell them both to fight and flee. Take both into consideration when thinking about your cat's stuff, as it usually ends up making them happier and safer.
Also, PSA: if you have outside cats, give them both a shelter that protects them from predatory birds and one that protects them from large ground-based predatory animals like dogs, raccoons, possums, and the rest. Just having a few high shelves that they can parkour to is usually enough, but make sure that you also have a bird shelter as well, because I've lost cats to them.

When I was a kid, all animals roamed free. My neighbor had a male cat who was cooped up inside 24/7. She was going away and asked my sister to feed Smokey while she was gone. When my sister went into the home, Smokey attacked her. He kept doing it, but no one believed my sister, especially my father.
So my sister said to my father, “Fine. You feed him next.” He did, but the. he ran out of the house as soon as he went in, to get a friend to help him. Smokey was chained up inside as well. So my father and his friend grabbed him by the chain and let him out, free. In only a few days, he was the happiest cat. He remained an outdoor cat for the rest of his life. That’s how life was then. You never kept any animal indoors. It was unheard of. It was considered animal abuse. My cats are indoor cats, but it still feels extremely unnatural to me. My cats think so too.

I have an abandoned female cat which adopted me and has taken over my home. No idea of age, maybe 9? Cannot get her into a transporter to take her by car to vet.Stressed and irate. otherwise she is a calm, clean, soft animal who will only be with me...not interested and is even afraid of anyone else. She is now an indoor cat, hates the outside so, fine. The most I can get her to do is SOMETIMES go into the garden with me, for 10 minutes. She is very clever but I cannot get her to play...it's as if she doesn't even see the toys, the moving mouse, the tinling balls, etc. Nothing...and she spends most of the day and night sleeping.Any ideas anyone?

Cat scratchers don't do squat to deter couch scratching. If they can stretch on it without making something fall and spook them they're going to stretch and try to scratch on it. Doesn't matter if it's plastic, cloth, or leather.
I've been privileged to love 10 cats in my 31 years of living. The 1st was in the family for over 15 years and died before I turned 5. The 2nd also lived over 15 years. The 3rd died after about 11 years from intestinal tumors. The 4th died at the young age of 2 from neutering complications. The 5th has been with us for almost 2 years but she's closer to 3 years old.
The other 5 are all rescue babies. 1 mother less than a year old with 4 beautiful newborns that all grew up inside safe and sound. Poor mama ended up pregnant a 2nd time just before we found her a foster home but all 5 found loving indoor forever homes.
Not one single feline thought twice about scratching everything. Training is out of the question too. Cats aren't dogs and this video lied to you. They do what they want when they want to. Leashing your cat is just stupid... have you ever seen a leash on a Lion? Just don't take them outside and microchip them in case they get out!
Best advice for everybody wondering about indoor cats is as follows... 1 cat = 2 litter boxes... 2 cats = 3 litter boxes... 3 cats = 4 litter boxes... etc... DON'T BE LAZY... SCOOP THOSE BOXES AT LEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK!!!... have at least 1 cat tree... unless you're really busy don't shove them away because after enough love they'll just go to sleep for 4+ hours when you get up or adjust how you're sitting... cats sleep 3/4 of every single day so it ain't gonna hurt you to smother them with love until they've had their fill... precise feeding schedules are pointless unless life and work allows it to be part of everyday activity because all cats eat different amounts of differing varieties of food... 3 TIMES A WEEK AT LEAST YOU LAZY BUMS!!! SCOOP'EM!!!

Leashes can actually be quite good for cats! I've seen a lot of leash trained cats that enjoy their walks. By your logic have you ever seen a wolf on leash? Cats aren't lions, they're pets just as dogs are so there's nothing wrong with walking them if they enjoy it. And cats are just as trainable as dogs..just more stubborn. I've seen some cats taught to crazy tricks, it's all about finding out the right motivation to get them into doing said tricks.
And a lot of scratching posts do help with scratching but it depends on the cat, some training may have to be done to get them to prefer the posts over your furniture.

I don't think that ANY creature that walks crawls swims slithers or flies across mother earth belongs indoors it's entire life. Sure, it reduces the chances of danger. But isn't that the same with humans? Feel guilty locking your cat indoors 24/7? You should. Your feelings are valid. Do onto others...remember? You would never wish that upon yourself. Having a balance between safety and actually living your life is something to keep in mind. And no, cats are not wild animals. They have been domesticated out of our selfishness. I get that. And I get that we are now obligated to protect them. But like children, you have to allow them to live their lives
