  • Taking the bed off my 2005 Silverado 2500HD Duramax. Not that hard if all the mounting bolts come out. Enjoy

    That fork lift makes life easier! Glad to see those bed bolts didn't give too much trouble!

      My fingers and toes were crossed on those bolts. You just never know when you will find one seized. The forklift is awesome.

    Nice job bud! Broke it all down clear, simple. My 05 Rado is Rodney Rustrocket and bed is eaten away a few more inches each year, especially wheelwells. Son went ahead and wrecked it for me forcing me to make the decision to replace it. I know my bolts will be a batch! Missouri is a killer for snow/salt not Arizona! Thanks for the How to Video!

    I am about ready to pull my 8' bed off my 3500 05.
    I am using a engine puller and built a rolling bed holder to work on bed in garage.
    Rockers/cab corners, plus bed and other body work. Fuel line repair etc.

    You said you may use another rust free bed you have. I would just weld the holes up and spray some bedliner. It’s just the inside of the bed.
    It sounded like you were real worried about the bolts coming off. Lol
    My truck spent 7 years in the U.P. And 12 years in South WI.
    I put on a Body Lift and all the bolts came out fine. I sprayed them well in Advance with 50/50 trans fluid and acetone. I rocked the bolts back and forth with my electric Harbor Freight impact. No prob with any. I was suprised. Unless the Trans/acetone really works as good as they say.
    I did put anti-seize on all the bolts upon install.
    I actually drove my truck around without the bed with magnetic trailer lights while working on it.

      I have seen one bed mount break and the bolt just spin. That is a nightmare and it only takes one. I have always sprayed my bolts with blaster awhile before removing them and it has worked great. Probably just going to throw the plastic liner back in and wait for this bed to rot. Then if I still have the truck I will use the rust free bed.

    Not as bad as I would have thought. Rust can be harmful to break lines and getting those bolts off . Great job.

      It's always a gamble if a bolt of two are completely seized. Thankfully all mine came out.

    No rust/rot at all from the looks of it just surface rust. 👍

      It's the best looking frame I have seen on these body style trucks. Some pitting but not a ton.

  • @HODMEChannel

    Clean truck! Hope you preserve the frame with a updated frame restoration video!

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am leaning towards just Fluid Filming it. Any paint products just don't seem to hold up to Wisconsin winters.

    • @HODMEChannel
      @HODMEChannel 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      mossman381 I agree. I did POR15 on my frame and Minnesota winters it was already peeling.

      When I did my 04 up I blasted the frame epoxy-coated it then took ceramic chassis coat to it and finished it with mill tar epoxy coating. It has held up great to 4+ years of western ny salt and to make matters worse they'll take salt brine from gas Wells and mix it in the salt. Anyways my frame/ underside still looks like the day I sprayed it.

      @@chevyfan82 I really can't spend that much time on the frame. Fluid Film will preserve the frame with much less effort. If I decide to do more and paint it later I can degrease and pressure wash the fluid film off. Soaking with fluid film might actually help remove the rust later on.

    That’s what I have planned for this upcoming weekend as well; take the bed off, clean up the frame rails, then paint! Looks pretty straight forward. You still gonna do the CAT filter mod or possibly do a lift pump?

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's pretty easy if all the bolts come out. I would be soaking them every couple days just to be sure. The reason why I haven't bought anything is because I don't know if I should go with CAT filter or lift pump. If I do lift pump I will get the factory filter delete piece.

    Are you still thinking about converting this truck to 4x4

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Still thinking about it. Got it on the hoist for the first time a few days ago. Frames are pretty close but will need to make two mounts for the front axle. Not impossible but not easy either.

      mossman381 to bad the frame on your dads old truck isn’t in as nice shape as your you could have just done a body swap

    You know where I can get a rust free 61/2ft bed?

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found a pretty good bed in Iowa. Down south or out west is were you will find rust free parts. Keep your eyes out and sometimes you can find something local that someone has already spent the time to go get.

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably just going to put the plastic liner back in and wait for this bed to rot. Then get my rust free bed out if I still have the truck.
