Thank you Tiz for watching-I am sure you and Dave would enjoy this area as it is a fairly short level walk (Apart from the wooden track) Packed full of interest ,nature and history 👍
Thank you Martin-I totally enjoyed this area and would recommend anyone with an interest in history if possible to visit-Thank you for watching my small adventure 👍
Good to see that you made it to ring the bell, what a wonderful walk way. There is a saying, every third generation forgets the first but the paths of man are amongst the oldest things to remain.
A brilliant comment Sandy -On a good day it would be a great ride down from Swindon for you and Richard - Perhaps start with a walk up the Tor then go onto the Somerset levels near Westhay-Thank you for watching my friend 👍
I know it's cold, but I would have taken my shoes and socks off to walk those planks, like the ancestors. They knew what they were doing on soggy, slippery walkways!! Interesting video James, thank you.
Good point-I had not thought of this -Thank you for watching-I think as it was so cold this had not crossed my mind-Interesting area , well worth the visit with your boots on or off 👍
Great video, I was In Bridgwater yesterday and today, Storm Burt really rolled in, having driven through it, I think the Somerset levels are definitely looking a lot closer to there neolithic past today, than for a long time!.
Hi James, As others have commented you can really feel what it might have been like walking this route. What a job building that must have been. Just making planks of wood would have been quite a task in itself. Thank you very much for filming this it must have taken some effort to do and keep your balance at the same time. Hope all is well in your part of the world Ive seen some terrible pictures of the floods in Wales All the best!!
Thank you David-We had no power for 14hrs yesterday due to the Storm ,various roads flooded still now -Lucky we live higher up -Anyway it was wet and icy ,my balance not being the best I managed to avoid a disaster -The area was so interesting full of history , mystery and interest . Thank you for watching my friend 👍
A fantastic area not far from me that I will return to , next time for the nature-Thank you for watching my small adventure in history at the presnt time each evening there are Starling mumerations around the reserve ⭐👍
Thank you James, sometimes it's difficult to imagine what some of our ancient sites would have looked like back in the day, not that one though. The sights, sounds and smells were pretty much spot on there. Cheers. 🧔 👍
So true Bob this is a fantastic way to experience history-You also feel in touch with our ancestors walking their route-Thank you for watching my friend
I live near a large river bottom area that's a nature preserve. There are some very boggy areas where people have built very similar track ways. These are from the 21st Century CE but they may as well be from the 21st Century BCE.
Thank you for watching Jim -Wood and water in icy conditions are never a good mix-I really enjoyed my walk in the Somerset Levels - I obtained a feeling of walking in history-A hard thing to find on many of my visits 👍
I enjoyed your practical & well crafted plank walk. I've retired to the great Pacific Northwest of the US. Although many of our more civilized walkways have modern plankways as well, even more common is simply using large fallen trees over streams & boggy areas. Definitely nit fir the faint hearted oe clumsy footed. Stay safe out there!
Thank you for watching my small adventure in history-This was quite wet and icy so my balance was not good-I totally enjoyed my visit to this area ,not far from me-I have never been to the US .Looking at your fantastic area fills me with envy-I'd better put it on my *Bucket List* before it is too late 👍
Good video James, thank you, about a year since we walked the track, will squeeze a revisit in next week hopefully, You walked the way with great aplomb! Keep travelling.
Thank you for watching my small adventure in history-I really found this area and the walk very interesting -Amazing to think how advanced our ancestors were in all aspects of life ?
This is amazing to see, looks scary to walk on. It’s a very interesting place and one I hope To visit one day. Wonder how the area would look like after this weekend, with all this rain
Fantastic James. It's on our list next time that we are back in Somerset. May i suggest that next time ( for the sake of authenticity) that you walk it bare feet. 😄
Thank you it was touch and go for a while as it was wet and icy-Worth the effort a fantastic place to visit that has a wealth of history, mystery and nature-Thank you for watching my friend ⭐
So many questions are raised by places like this. The Reconstruction image seems to show that the planks you walk on were a bit wider than the ones you walk on now. I suspect even a few more inches would make a lot of difference when walking it. I wonder what they did to make sure they didnt meet some coming thr other way, halfway along, shouts or bells maybe. I reckon they must have taken some sort of long pole too, just in case. A fascinating place.
So true-The more you think about this the more complex it becomes ?-May have been platforms or mounds -The mystery continues-Thank you so much for watching my small adventure in history and your thought provoking comment ⭐👍
Another fascinating bit of history there James thanks once again , I've only heard of one walking the plank blind folded basically shark bait ,, the Neolithic one looks much better 😆👍👍
Thank you for watching my small adventure in history Tony-Wood water and ice are not a good mix-I totally enjoyed walking the plank-More reward thank risk on this visit-A great area full of ancient history and nature 👍
Discovered by a local Peat Digger named Raymond Sweet in 1973 who was finding ancient wood-This was then dated by Cambridge university and the story starts there -Thank you so much for watching my small adventure in history ⭐👍
look at it this way many of the Neolitic people who walked this ancient path may have carried on to many a Long Barrow-You would find this I am sure interesting and possibly exciting
Ten out of ten for 'walking the plank'. My heart was in my mouth for you. This is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you Tiz for watching-I am sure you and Dave would enjoy this area as it is a fairly short level walk (Apart from the wooden track) Packed full of interest ,nature and history 👍

Lovely video, thanks James. James goes there so I don't have to (if I don't want) 😁

@@britishlongbarrows I will try that is for my Sunday video
Might not be the most impressive thing BUT it's not every day you get to walk along a road dating back to before the bronze age.
So true Nick-Thank you for watching my small adventure in history 👍
