Hiya Jacqui, hope you’re well 🥰 Those locks were the easy ones, slow, but easy, the manual wheel ones you see later down the Nene are a workout in themselves lol 😂 You’re right, it’s a beautiful river! Thanks matey! xx
I know the wind was giving you a pain in the backside, but the cruise itself was so lovely to watch. The rivers are so different from the canals and I really like seeing how the river locks operate. Julie, you get the gold medal for Boatiness! Great job getting over your fear of the ladders! I can only imagine how intimidating they are. And, lastly, Martin gets the gold medal for being the biggest goof! Between frightening the poor lambs with that obnoxious hooter, and then prancing his way through your footage there at the end, he wins hands-down.
Aww thanks Trevor! Yes, some of the ladders were covered in weed, so very slippy, I mastered them in the end thankfully, but not my favourite thing to do lol 😂 Thanks again! xx
Great thanks for your time and efforts to produce your vlogs. Sad to see such a beautiful landscape spoiled by no human respect. I drive over the A45 bridge every other week but cannot get a great view of the river from it so thanks very much. Hope you are both well. Safe journey travels.
So pleased you enjoyed it! The river Nene is a beautiful river, the mindless vandalism just really annoys us, honestly don’t understand this selfish attitude these people have 🤷♀️ For some reason your previous message seems to have disappeared and gone into cyberspace! But yes, I only conquered the ladders once I felt confident enough, and always checked for weed before each step. It did make it a lot easier for Martin so made sense 😃 Thanks David! xx
We are really enjoying your trip. Our sons boat is just before Yarwell Mill and is called Sunny Dreams give them a toot when you go by they arevlive aboard so are usually there. Pat and Peter
Aww we do remember seeing Sunny Dreams, but unfortunately we’ve already come back through there. Our videos are a couple of weeks behind to give us time to edit them. Thank you so much for your lovely comment xx
Hi Adrian, you don’t need a licence to drive the boat (like a vehicle driving licence), anyone can drive a boat, but the boat itself has to be licensed with the waterway that it is on. So we have a Canal & River Trust Licence and when we were on the River Nene as in this video, we had an additional Environment Agency Licence too. You can take a boat handling course if you wanted to, but we didn’t. Anyone can hire a narrowboat for a holiday, they give a short demo and off you go! Thank you so much! xx
Oh ok, thanks Mike, we knew about the Nen pronunciation (we lived in Peterborough for a few years) but didn’t know about Cogenhoe, that’s a strange one, we’ll have to remember that one, Cookna! Thanks! xx
Hi Julie and Martin we met you at Crick hope your both well. Do you still have a code for us to use for ship to shore?. Thank you. Dave and Rachel NB HOLLY X
Hiya! Yes we remember you, how’s it going with your boat? You don’t need a code, just tell Lindsay, the lady who runs it, that you were recommended by Julie & Martin Black, her number is 01962 868642. Speak soon xx
Haha, no, I haven’t lost anything yet! 🤞 I use good pegs and check it regularly. That day the wind was ridiculous lol 😂, but was just perfect for getting the washing dry! Thanks! xx

Aww thanks Mishka, those ladders are so slippy and I’m such a scaredy cat lol. The river Nene is a beautiful river xx
The Nene is without doubt the cleanest, most pleasant river I ever cruised.
It is a beautiful river! Thanks! xx
Well done you for conquering the lock ladders, they can be weedy and rather unpleasant. Looked hard work but good fun together ❤
Aww thanks matey! Yes, very weedy, but good teamwork and a lot of giggles xx 😘
Great to see this guillotine locks, I wouldn’t of had a clue about them. Such a lovely river, loving watching your journey guys ❤❤❤xxx

Awww what a fantastic cruise. I can imagine the ladders are scarey and slippery so very well done. Best wishes ❤
Aww thanks Trevor! Yes, some of the ladders were covered in weed, so very slippy, I mastered them in the end thankfully, but not my favourite thing to do lol 😂 Thanks again! xx

Great video, thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much, that means a lot xx
Loving the vlogs guys, such lovely take on the waterways x
Thanks Steve, hope you’re well xx
Loving you blogs so peaceful and serene. And great choice of music. A question "do you have to have any license to operate the boat?"

Ok In Northamptonshire Nene is pronounced 'Nen' and Cogenhoe is 'Cookna'

It's not important, but the Cogenhoe thing triggered me. 😂

Was this on the way to PYC Julie? xx
Yes, this was before we got to the PYC, this was on our way down river. We saw you on our way back up river. Luv ya xx
Do you ever find you loose any washing from your line from wind
Haha, no, I haven’t lost anything yet! 🤞 I use good pegs and check it regularly. That day the wind was ridiculous lol 😂, but was just perfect for getting the washing dry! Thanks! xx
Why did you blow your horn at the poor sheep just trying to have a peaceful drink of water?
Think Martin was trying to make me jump, he’s a ratbag lol, thanks! xx
