    how bout you make udemy or gumroad courses and instead of buying books from other writers... I rather spend my money on your courses. and you make money.... not other authors...

      I appreciate your comment, but I'm afraid you're missing the point. I created this video since quite a few people asked for book recommendations. The goal here is to share resources that I found useful. When I have time, I'll create more paid courses. When that happens, I'll make sure to share them here so you can check them out. Thanks for the support!

      About these Udemy courses in case you're buying or watching them ( not related to Will Gibbons ), most of them are quick money grabs, I've watched ( pirated ) tons of these courses and most of them are sort of trash or in nicer words for beginners + info you can easily find for free.
      The only courses I highly recommend and is worth every penny is from Grant Warwick he explains alot how to approach everything and how to break down stuff and he's really great artist on similar level to Will Gibbons, he has 3D Modeling course ( for 3D Modeling just watch Arrimus 3D on youtube, explains the topology really well ), he also has Lighting and most importantly Rendering or LookDev ( he uses Max + V-Ray but you can easily translate the info/methods to any other software, I personally started and still using Max+Vray but I feel at home in any other software so once u learn all the concepts you can easily translate it anywhere ). Here's example of his quality: /watch?v=l5oXXHnfOZk
      Overall you need to make sure the artist who is doing the courses is actually great at what he does, I've seen many ppl making courses but I can't even find their reels/portfolios online or if I find something their content usually isn't that great, so it seems like they've basically watched few tutorials on youtube and combined all the info into a course.
      The best courses is probably Live remotely where you register and pay and then on specific date it starts ( ran by some dude who worked at Blur Studio, Scanline VFX etc and truly has great skills/achievements even better if the "tutor" has won awards such as Emmy ), not in some online store by who knows who.
      Also if you guys know someone similar or better please let me know, I'm hungry for great courses :D

    I like the format. You've made a ton of super helpful tutorials. I may never use some, but they've helped me understand rendering better. I like the behind the scenes showing your influences and resources.

    I really like this format and would love to see more! Rendering can be challenging when you're trying to guess the underlying principles behind what you see on the computer screen. So more content like this would be awesome!! Keep doing what your doing

    Great video and book recommendations Will! I always use TH-cam and blogs to learn the fundamentals, but I am always curious about the 'why' behind each of the settings that I change in KeyShot. I really am curious about learning why a light/material/render looks better with certain settings compared to just randomly clicking buttons. It is really difficult to find those advanced descriptions online, so I will definitely check out these books. Thanks again, and I would love to see more videos like this!

      Thanks. I think some of these help with that. To be clear though, specific interface/terminology will be unique to each software. The best way to learn those is to read the manual/documentation for that software or follow specific tutorials on that software. Thanks for your comment!

    Thanks for recommendation, by the way do you have tutorial for multi-material in Keyshot? I use alot of masks in Maxwell/Cycles etc, but I dont understand how to use that masks for material blending in Keyshot - like I have 8 masks (leather, 2 different velvet, 3 complex IOR metals, 3 paint layers) and in Maxwell/Cycles I use black as 1st material / white as 2nd material, and then another texture with both previous materials + new one on top.

    • @WillGibbons
      @WillGibbons  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries. Funny you should ask about Multi-Materials. That's the next course... goal is to publish by Monday, but may be next Monday if I don't get it edited this weekend.
      Regarding blending... it doesn't work that well or like that in KeyShot. You can layer materials and use opacity maps or a color to number as a procedural opacity map... but I'm not sure how it works in Maxwell or Cycles, but it's not how I'd go about doing that in KeyShot. My Material Graph Masterclass course would help you get used to this though: courses.willgibbons.com/material-graph-masterclass

      @@WillGibbons Thanks, well in Maxwell you have material as input + folders what contains BSDFs (you can use % to blend 2 bsdfs or texture maps to layer them + folder itself have certain %), there is normal mode and additive mode (coating), so you like stacking bsdfs on a shelf in right order.

    Is there any books about materials? I want to find what kind of absorption distance is for certain materials, but I end up just guessing it cause there is 0 useful info I can find (mostly its scientific stuff like that [Absorption coefficient α = 0.0020857 cm-1], and how do I convert it to mm, cm, m?)

      I think you'd be more likely to find this info online rather than in a book. Not sure though.

    How to improve aesthetics, is there any recommended book?

    • @WillGibbons
      @WillGibbons  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no silver bullet. The purpose of books is to learn how to use software. To make something look beautiful is to use your skills as a designer or artist. The best way to do this is to learn how other designers/artists make beautiful work, then read books if needed or practice until you can create what you want.
