I was super happy with the theme of this set, not sure about the Invocations but they do look a LOT better in person. Went to pre-release for the first time, saved it for a special set. It was awesome. Didn't go for counters but went with exert instead, it's not as complicated.
How is Bounty of the Luxa hard to understand? Turn order is Untap, Upkeep, Draw, Main Phase 1, Combat Phase, Main Phase 2, End Step. Main Phase 1, remove all counters add mana to your mana pool. If no counters removed, add a counter and draw a card. You do one or the other and it alternates on a turn for turn basis. One turn you get extra mana flow, the other turn you draw a card. It's a great accelerator.
This set is awesome and very undervalued! Cycling, Embalm, and Aftermath are value cards that pros will showcase and eventually spike. These abilities on certain cards make so many other cards obsolete and are still very undervalued. The exert mechanic is great and easy to understand which is why it is spiking after Prerelease. I see a lot of value in: Cycling dual lands, the gods, rare split cards, Champion of Rhonas, As Fortold, Gideon, Nissa, Liliana, and Combat Celebrant. Multiple, intricate, value-adding card abilities = large potential growth
Really love the content man its just alot better than most of the others and the flair and effort you put into it really shows in the video's man oh and a shoutout from south africa's magic community
I'm new to magic, so this is my first time expeirencing a new set release. i bought the amonkhet deck building tool kit just because. not too excited about the egyptian theme (yugioh has alreadye exhausted me of that) but im enjoying the previous set crads. im excite dfor the next set, if i like that theme i'll buy a booster box ;)
un-readable text, unsymmetrical box layout, tiny art, overly busy borders, cluttered hieroglyphs before and after the name... What is it exactly that you like about them? I want to like them, but cant find a single thing about them that is appealing other than their rarity.

I'm not sure yet about the mechanics and I wish the Invocations were thinner with bigger art, but I absolutely love the flavor and Ancient Egypt theme, LOVE IT! Even if the mechanics turn out to be wonky I am still going to collect the crap out of this set.
The cards from Amonket smell like a trip to the Smithsonian Egyptian exhibit. And Ixalan smells like a guy dressed as a Myan wearing a conquistador helmet walking through the Natural History Museum's dinosaur exhibits.
I really like champion of rhona's. Ramp and drop him on turn 3. Turn 4 exert and drop Ulamog. You don't get the cast ability, but that's a hell of a turn 4 drop.
I originally wasn't liking this set but after prerelease I have changed my opinion. I really like it. I don't play standard so I have no comments on it's affect on that, but I really enjoyed it in limited and I think it has a lot of good EDH cards.

I suppose it is hard to keep track of the cumulative value of the cards as you're opening them in person, but Rudy was definitely underestimating the combined power of all those 4-6 dollar rares he kept opening while complaining the boxes weren't great. Even without the Yugioh card both those boxes were still a solid 25-30 bucks above MSRP just by the value of the rares.
I've been out of the magic community for about 10-12 months now for various reasons (mostly university) and there is so much for me to learn now if I want to get back into it. Luckily I play modern so I don't need to learn all the new stuff but I've heard even modern has gotten pretty shaken up
That first box had really good rares, wow! I wish wizards would've put the invocations in one per 2 boxes on average instead of 1 per 6 boxes or whatever the rarity is per boxes.
my lgs has extra prerelease kits and they are trying to march them out to answer your question. also the foil full arts are holding $10 steady. my opinion on this set is its going to jump in value after rotation strick because of the edh cards it offers. if I could compare it to another set - m14 core set. it's got all the edh bombs.
At first I was excited about embalm. Not so much about Exert. But once I saw the different ways you could work with the -1/-1 counter Creatures and spells I was sold on that draft archetype. Defiant Greatmaw is a great card for that. Also Anointed Procession seems like a cheaper substitute for my Bant Golem deck because I can't spend ~$17 bucks on 3 Parallel Lives.
Yugioh's early ROI is stronger than Magic the Gatherings rudy. You would be very surpised of the profit you make with a newer yugioh set than magic the gathering set. Yugioh have almost no long lasting ROI on their older sets though. They are in a way the reverse version of magic the gathering standard format boxes.
This set looks fine to me. What's unfortunate is that -they didn't ban Felidar Guardian in standard- (they just did :D) . But there's definitely some sleepers and bomb uncommons. There's at least 4-5 uncommons that I could see going to 1-2$ mark, with Bone Picker and Censor possibly going to Aether Hub range. And a bunch of commons could sell for 50 cents (mostly the cartouches and some of the 1 mana cyclers I think). In the rare slot there's only Glorybringer and Harsh Mentor currently sitting above 8$ but that could change. I think the split cards are under evaluated. Bicycle lands could get to 8$ range, maybe 10$+ if they see play in modern. And Glorious End could be a 20$ mythic.
10:30 - Good foil for EDH. Clones are never that great in standard but casuals love them. And this one you can flash it back later if they kill it. Clever Impersonator is a 15$ foil from Khans just because of EDH. But that one was mythic and could copy anything not just creatures. Still I think the Vizier is a good one and will be pricey in foil. Maybe 8-10$.
Full art lands are supposed to be 1 in every 3 packs if i'm not mistaken. Also about those pre-release packs i think they're gonna go up in value b/c many people have found invocations and plainswalkers in them. And about the set, no it's not that complicated Rudy, and in my opinion with the exception of the original innistrad it's one of the best sets ever made from all perspectives.

Aven Mindcensor is worth 27.00 dollars. the only invocations that's worth 100 dollars or more is the force of will at 185 dollars the rest are less then 70 dollars.
I am living in Berlin and almost every LGS got less Prerelease Packs from Wizards than last year, thus creating a shortage so some people had to be send home not being able to attend at a prerelease.
Ah yes, Annointed Procession. The card where if you have a full play set out and then cast Stir the Sands you get 48 2/2 Zombie tokens. I sure know what I'm running on Game Day
At 11:43, did anybody else really want Rudy to end his "It's time. It is time..." phase by saying: "TO DUEL!" Also - somewhat spoilers - in Yu-Gi-Oh, the Pharaoh's real name ends up being Atem, which sounded pretty close to what the Patreon's name is.
So of the 12 packs I opened last weekend there was visible damage on at least as many cards, as well as multiple issues with misprints and really obvious lines in the artwork. There were 'dents' in the face of the card like the rollers on the printers were pushing down really hard and scuffs on my foils. All around really dissapointed in the quality of the cards in the pre-release sets. They must have spent all that money on the dice, because they finally made one I like.
I personally love amonkhet because I have always wanted more Minotaurs so now with a legendary that actually helps us I can make a black red Minotaur deck
Rudy, do you think my Invocation Rhonas I pulled at Prerelease ever go up? I'm expecting it to drop for 3-6 months after release, but given other Masterpiece series trends to spike around the time the follow-up set is released, think these might follow the same trend or should I just ditch it now?
I'm not sure about the distributor level but I do know my local LGS has a ton extra, they usually sell out their space every prerelease, but this one not a single event sold out. Usually they have a few left this time they have cases.
My daughter pulled Oketra at the pre-release. I hated the they way they looked in pictures. Once I saw one up close they do look way better. You can't see the depth of the cards in the pictures.
The flavor of the set didnt really do much for me, but playing the set at prerelease, turns out its a fun limited set. Lots of important decision making with the new mechanics

Let me see if I've got this right. In your main phase 1 if the card has a counter, remove it. If it doesn't have a counter add one and draw a card. If you removed a counter gain one of the diamond things, and 1 each of green and blue mana. Also it's an enchantment so I'm guessing it needs to be equipped to something even though it's worded like it should be a stand alone card. The wording is really rough, like for all I know it could give you that mana and thing from adding the counter if you don't draw the card. MTG needs PSCT(Problem Solving Card Text) badly it seems.

Yep, full art foil lands are 1 in 4 boxes, just like the Yug-invocations. So definitely the market should value them equally.

Played in the prerelease. For me, there is not a lot of stuff in the set I want to have, but the cards do feel like they are going to be fun to draft.

During prerelease event, I opened 3 God cards in my box. 1 of them was the Yu-Gi-Oh! version. Great pulls that night!

the embalm mechanic is op. 2 cards for one. just look at lingering souls, extremely popular. embalm is basically the same mechanic
