    These are super gorgeous!!!!! I hollered to the hubby I need to order some 16 gauge wire. He hollered back " New tutorial? ". I was like yes Samantha made a new one. He just laughed and told me to order away. I'm hooked on your tutorials. You're a great teacher. Hope all is well with you and your family.

    • @samanthalatimer1
      @samanthalatimer1  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You can definitely protect your copper from tarnishing by using a wax polish… something like Renaissance Wax, where you apply it and then buff it off with a soft cloth. Then apply it again, and then buff off again. It applies a layer of protection which helps it to stop tarnishing to some degree. Hope that helps ☺️

    Love this earring Sam but I have a question, I would like to make my sister a pair but she only likes silver. If I buy silver covered copper will the copper show when I hammer the wires flat? I haven’t used silver covered copper before but silver is getting really expensive. Any help would be wonderful!! 😊

    • @samanthalatimer1
      @samanthalatimer1  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Hi Sheila. That’s a great question. I think with the amount of hammering involved, you probably would see some of the copper coming through, sadly. You *may get away with it if you’re really careful though so I’d say give it a try and see what happens… and then maybe try silver filled wire instead of sterling. Silver filled has a much thicker bonding than silver plated. That might work. I’m glad you like them 🥰

    • @yvette_is_Mamacado
      @yvette_is_Mamacado 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not to be a buttinski but you CAN make it work with plated wire by finding the exact right thickness (thinness) of cloth (I use the shammy kind. Super soft, none textured) and the exact amount of hammering pressure. You want the stressed look without the ACTUAL stress. So I suggest grabbing some of your saved cuts (I always save my cuts for this type practice or small needs) & just see what works. It's worth trying because not everyone likes copper (iny parts MOST don't 😢) & not many of us can play around with sterling silver or 18k gold wire. (If you CAN you're probably NOT DIY'ing ANYthing🤷) Anyway, it's doable with some practice. Hope this helps.😊
      Edit:
      I checked Amazon and found those Id bought awhile back They're from Pandahall (a go-to shoppe of mine!) 4 color copper alloy (silver, gold, antique bronze & brass) Tibetan brass round, oval OR teardrop. They're closed so you'd have to improvise with just a jump ring at the top. (A 6mm with a 4mm then your fish hook looks nice) It doesn't help with the paddles but the frame is the hardest part because you do want the sturdier wire. These are as sturdy as it gets w/o being heavy! I think the paddles are easier bc you can use a lesser gauge for less intense hammering & could probably work it out with a cloth and some filing. I also use a light spray coat of Krylon clear coat in gloss or matte, depending on project. But that's good only AFTER finishing! Light coat ...wait 48hrs, 2nd light coat. Lasts nearly forever tho still not advisable for constant water contact. Hope this is ok Sam. Not to stamp toes here; I've just been in this spot bc NO ONE in my small town likes copper color. They even think patina is "old dirty jewelry." 😒😒

    I really like these. They’re elegant but would work with casual too! I can never get my wire to widen enough and I’ve tried hitting it pretty hard. Is it possible that I’ve bought the wrong kind of wire? I bought it all on Amazon and it says it’s for jewelry but most don’t say what the “hardness factor “ is (dead soft etc).

    • @samanthalatimer1
      @samanthalatimer1  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hmm. It’s hard to say without knowing owing which wire it is. I think if it’s states jewellery wire, then it should be ok. What brand did you buy? Also, try moving the hammer slightly outwards when you’re hammering. Kind of like, as you start to hammer the wire, move the hammer down the wire, if that makes sense… that can help with flattening
