      @@samanthalatimer1 I made these today. You are right, getting each heart started on the hoop is a bit fiddly, but worth it. I wanted to use the hook type earring wires so I made the hoop so the loops overlap at the top and I attached the earring wires to those. I love them so much. Thank you!

    Hi Samantha ✨ thank you for your lovely tutorial. I was wondering how you keep your finished copper pieces from becoming tarnished? I live in a seaside town and my pieces lose their shine rather quickly. Any advice? Thank you for sharing your ideas and creativity with us. ❤

    • @samanthalatimer1
      @samanthalatimer1  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello 👋 Thank you for your very kind words 🥰 It all depends on what you want from your pieces, to be honest. You can treat them with a patina like liver of sulphur, which deepens the tones of the copper, or you can leave it raw and then treat with a wax, such as Renaissance Wax, which you apply then buff off with a soft cloth. If you apply and then buff, two or three times, it leaves a very good protective layer over the copper. Or, you can just leave it raw and clean each time you wish to wear it… I do this with some of my pieces and I actually use ketchup to clean my pieces, which I then wash off after about a minute or so… unconventional, but very effective. Hope that helps 🥰

    Lovely earings! I can't wait to try them. I was really happy to read your advice on another comment for cleaning your copper with tomato sauce (Australia). I've experimented with a tsp of salt and qtr cup of white vinegar which seems to work really quickly. Do you think that's ok? Shouldn't damage the piece? Anyway, I love your tutorials so thank you! ❤

    Hi there thanks for the tutorial which I made yesterday and made me cast my memory back to earrings I had made 3 years ago but I made the little hearts with a continuous wire and then connected to the ring, I found that doing them separately as you showed, the earrings aren't very stable 😊❤

    • @samanthalatimer1
      @samanthalatimer1  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah ok. I find mine are pretty stable, so I guess it’s all about personal taste 🥰 Because I attach mine on top of the frame, they are stable but if you attach them next to the frame, they can wobble a bit ☺️

  • @sherylgeimke6954
    @sherylgeimke6954 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    How long is the wire you use for the earring frame? My ring mandrel doesn’t have “zed” 😢

    • @samanthalatimer1
      @samanthalatimer1  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah that’s ok. In my instructions, I just say use whatever size of frame you like, but just make sure you have about 1cm “crossover” ☺️ But if you want to make yours exactly the same size as the ones I demonstrate then you will need approximately 9cm or 3.5in which will give you plenty of wriggle room ☺️

    • @samanthalatimer1

      Frame - 1.25mm wire
      Hearts - 1mm wire (4cm length for larger, 3cm for smaller)
      Wrapping wire - 0.4mm wire

    • @samanthalatimer1
      @samanthalatimer1  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You absolutely could... but you'd need to either start in the centre of your wrapping wire, or, move from the centre outwards, and then add more wire to move outwards on the other side, I'd think.

    I’m going to order the wire needed to make these cute earrings and I need to know if I order dead soft, half hard or what? I tried making the frame with 20 gauge dead soft copper wire and was not successful. Your advice would be appreciated! Thanks

    • @samanthalatimer1
      @samanthalatimer1  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use 1.25mm (16G) for the frames on these. Dead soft. Although when they say dead soft , it’s not really that soft in the thicker wires 🤭 When you come to hammer the frames to flatten them slightly, you will work harden it and therefore the frames will be super sturdy. I wouldn’t suggest using 20g for the frames as it’s just not thick or strong enough. Hope that helps 🥰

    Hello Samantha,
    What beautiful designs!! Could you please do a tutorial on the heart pendents you showed? I really enjoy watching and learning from your videos. You are a very good teacher.

      Hello 👋
      Of course! Do you have 18g wire and copper washers? I’ll get going on a tutorial very soon. Thank you so much for your lovely comment 😍

    Another great tutorial. Can’t wait to have a go. I’ve had to get my husband to put up a wall mounted earring display for all of the wire work I’ve been trying to learn.
    You asked about other crafts at the start, I’m usually a beadweaver. I love it but I’m loving adding some new wire skills!

      Oh I love the idea of a wall mounted earring display! I’ll have to have a word with my husband too 🥰 I do a little bead weaving too, but I’m not sure if it’s my eye getting older or my arthritic hands getting worse, but I struggle a little with it these days… those delica beads are soooo tiny lol 😂

    Would be helpful to this ADD US person if you gave the gauge equivalent along with the mm wire size 🥸
