Thank you for this walkthrough! Fantastic video, look forward for more like it! It was a pleasure to watch and very educational! Hope to see your videos soon!
As relates to your oil filler cap. If I were you, I'd take a dremel tool and cut a small slot in the top of the flange thereby enabling the use of a screw driver to at least start the tightening process. Just a thought
This version is the ASH31Mi (which I now own). I have never heard of anyone retrofitting this to the 26e, but it might be a good idea. An upright air intake draws all air from the slip stream, while the its position on the 26e will draw some air from the exhaust (which is hotter and includes exhaust products). Schleicher made this change for a good reason: the 31Mi is much less prone to overheating than the 26e.
I have heard of one or two overheating issues on our private user's group, and one of the 31mi's. This is still an open issue. I will update this comment if I hear of a resolution.
It is a tradeoff between independence and complexity. If you are close to a reliable source of tows, a pure glider is a cheaper and simpler option. I would have to drive 1-2 hours to get a tow, and then only on weekends.

Thank you so much for these explanations. Brilliant video. Greets from Spain! I use to fly on a Grob 109b years ago. Hope to see more videos.
Brilliant video. Clear detailed explanations and visuals
Thanks!
I agree, the oil cap is troublesome, I have a ASH26E, it's a great beautiful glider.

The trick is to do it left handed.
Schleicher has a different version of air filter, going upright, fixed at the water cooler, enabling much easier access to the oil cap.

Fantastic video, please use metric measurements
I had no idea how much interest there would be for this video outside of the U.S. - next time I definitely will.
Has the manufacturer solved the factory defective engine overheating issue? Sounds like the ash 31 has another overheating issue.

I looked into this at the SSA convention in Reno. The ILEC engine controller has had a software change which has resolved this overheating issue.
best tech..
A beautiful machine but there are too many 'gotchas' for my liking.

Gliders are for losers
