Ryobi Self-Propelled Lawn Mower Repair
มุมมอง 13Kปีที่แล้ว
Ryobi 40V self-propelled lawn mower repair with non-working drive. This video shows you how to fix a common problem with Ryobi lawn mowers where the self-propelled feature stops working. The mount for the drive microswitch breaks after repeated use. The great part is that it will likely cost you nothing or, at most, the price of a Torx T-15 screwdriver.

Thank you Tom! A simply cycle using the reset button solved the issue. Thank you for posting such a wonderful video. You sir are a great man.
Camera operator is a friggen idiot.
Crap video
Thank you Tom, i have had to use the reset multiple times, but now I am getting a ice buildup on the bottom of the freezer. Any suggestions?
Thank you 👍

I have my rating. Too bad you need so much time and money. Eastern Tennessee is perfect for this.
hope you can help me! We bought a house and this Samsung refrigerator came with it. It was manufactured in 2016 but is like brand new. The previous owners were elderly and didn't have the water hooked up to it so never used the icemaker. We ran water to it and the water fills the ice cube tray but it won't dump the ice cubes. Any ideas? Do I have to replace this whole unit even if it has never been used? Or are we missing something?
Try resetting it per the instructions in the video.
@@tomseim I've tried pushing the reset button several times. Even had water running out into freezer bottom at one point after pushing the button. Maybe I held the button too long? The problem is the ice is not being ejected so I guess that sensor must be bad even though it has never been used. I will probably have to order a new one then. It was a great instructional video and I will use it to refresh my memory on how to replace it. Thanks
@@hanginginthere440make sure the tray is twisting. That ejects the ice. Otherwise it’ll just keep filling and filling and filling
@@zigarten well... I ordered a new ice maker and put it in and also put in a new water filter and now it is not even filling the tray. Before it was filling the tray but not dumping the ice. I'm going backwards..... 😞
@@hanginginthere440 This fridge is really bad, I had to tear off the rear panel and install a heater to help the defrost up top. Worked fine but there's been water in the bottom of the fridge, again! I hear ya, 3 steps fwd, 10 back.
I installed the new ice maker from Amazon from the link and after 24hrs it has not made ice. I cycled it with the test cycle switch and it dumped the ice that was in the ice tray but still has not made and dumped on its own. Any ideas?
Make sure the ice maker is not disabled on the control panel.
Our exact model quit making ice several weeks ago. At first, I just did the reset and it had no effect after a day. Then I did a reset, and turned the ice maker to the off position for 24 hours, and voila, It is back to making ice. The wife said it is making it better than ever.
Thank you this video help me really good
Do you have the link for Amazon?
It is in the comments.
I was quoted $700 for this job from a Ford dealership
Gracias.. a sido de gran ayuda..
You're welcome!
Excellent video, do you have one that shows how to remove the existing ice maker? And will the fridge function properly without it? I don’t need the ice maker and it takes up valuable real estate in my freezer.
There are just 2 screws holding the ice maker in place. You don't need it in for the freezer to work, but turn off the water supply to it.
@@tomseim thanks Tom. I have loosened the two screws at the front, but it is still fastened in somewhere. I have never had the water supply hooked in. Is there some other trick to taking it out? At this point, I’m seriously considering hulking out on it.
I can’t seem to figure out how to pull the freezer door out so that I can get a good look at the back end of it.
@@tomseim okay, I persisted and rewatched your video. SUCCESS! Thanks so much for the info.
you made so easy. No one has even come close to show this. Thank you
You're welcome!
Do you have a video on how to replace the ice guide full part?
Great explanation! But im sorry i missed wbere to get the part?
A link is in the comments.
Thank you. 🙏
i swaer no one else on the entire internet says anything about the cycle button! youre a lifesaver! thank you sir
My top drawer doesn't lift out like that.
Thanks Tom for the info to locate the problem. I took another rout for the repair, I glued the broken piece with Bondic glue that hardens with UV light. Then added a filler peace for support. Mower works great, thanks again for location the problem.
This video just saved me a lot of time and reading, thank you sir for share the video
You're welcome!
The problem with mine is that it won't stop making ice. The arm doesn't come down to sense when the tray is full. We have to turn the icemaker on and off with the button at the top of the refrigerator.
Try lubing the arm with silicone spray lubricant.
I bought one in 2023 it failed in three months, freezer first then fridge. Garbage. No support from the brick or Samsung they knew they were selling trash. Had to eat the cost of the fridge and the spoiled food. Replaced with a Maytag/whirlpool side by side. Great so far.
Perfect video. Was about to order from Amazon (now $124) but read through the comments and, thanks to a couple of folks in here, was able to pull out the top drawer, reach into the ice tray where I felt a chunk of ice cubes stuck together that were preventing the unit from cycling. The reset button that you clued us into and the tip about an ice blockage were the keys for me.
My maker is working fine, but I'm not getting water into it. Anyone know how to fix that??
When i turn my water on, it just pours water in the freezer and fills the bucket with water.
Tom, am I able to give you a quick call. This video was super helpful but I have one quick question before I order a new ice machine.
Reply with your question and I will try to answer it.
Tom, now that the self control is fixed thx's to you on this utube video so I put everything back as followed but now I try to start it and with one push on the button it clicks on for about 2 seconds and its off? don't know why its doing this? christopher p.
I feel like my uncle just told me what to do. Thank you so much.
I looked through multiple videos on this and yours is the first to tell me where that cycle switch was. You are my final and happiest stop.
Thanks for the video. Is this compatible for model #RF28T51001SR/AA?
I don't think so, but compare the ice maker to the one in the video. Here is the ice maker for that model (installation is probably the same): www.amazon.com/Refrigerator-RF28T5021SR-RF28T5101SG-RF28T5F01SG-RF28T5F01SR/dp/B0BY3DRRL5
I know this is a 5 year old video, but I'm looking for the schematics and service manual (at least the ice maker section) to troubleshoot my icemaker on my Samsung RF260BEAESR/AA french door fridge. It won't fully fill with water. Solenoid only comes on for about 5 to 7 seconds but it is supposed to be 15 seconds to fill. Your video showed only a prt of the block diagram but no schematic. Do you have more info on this? Thanks!
The schematics will only show interconnections between various subassemblies, not of the subassemblies themselves. The solenoid valve is controlled by the main electronics board.
If you have any more schematics at all or even that block diagram at the end of this video could you please share with me? IM or whatever would work. Thanks!@@tomseim
Can’t find the wooden block diagram. I think it should fix my mower, too! Clever idea! thanks!
Did you make a diagram of your wooden block to show us how?
Thank you for the video. It is in spot number 100, and this is a 25 amp fuse. if I'm not mistaken
Awesome job
Thanks!
Excellent video! Thank you Sir!
Thanks - glad that it helped you.
Thanks for this! Saw your video to reinforce what I had already done. Now just waiting for ice maker to start working. Did I miss the link for the ice maker?
Yup, it is the very first link in the description.
Can you connect two racks together -one behind the other? I have a lower cabinet where two will fit perfectly if I could line them up?
My brothers and I just bought our mum a new Samsung fridge exactly like this one, and the ice maker will not work no matter what we do. I don't see how removing it like in this video will help, and I doubt replacing it will make it function properly. This unit was just shipped in and opened last night and the Test button reacts, but there hasn't been a lick of ice produced from the thing. I've gone on their website and they have so many options that are apparently to contact Customer Support, but none of them are helpful resources and I'm unsure why they supply their customer with useless contact information. Either fix the damn issue or make better products, Samsung. Fkn rip offs.
Your fridge should be covered under warranty - DON'T attempt any repairs yourself as this might void your warranty. Good luck!
Thanks Tom. I had no idea about that button underneath. I was able to find it after watching video and presto my ice maker is 100% again. WD. 4:15
Hi Tom, After calling Ryobi again because the mower stopped working again I was told to release and fold the handle back. Then unfold it to the extended position and it should click. I did that and it clicked. The mower started and the self propel worked. WOW, I was elated. That was not a fix found in the troubleshooting suggestions. I guess it was never properly unfolded. That one suggestion could have saved me so much trouble. Thank you for your help too. Linda from Orlando
There is an interlock switch in the handle that prevents the mower from being started unless it is in the fully extended position. Extending the handle is in the instructions, although they don't say that it won't start if you don't. I, too, had to figure this out early on.
Rip out the metal strip that shuts the circuit and power down on right hand side of bar where you go to close and open mower handles. Four torx screws to take it off. Thank me later 😂
I have had this problem 4 times 1 1/2 years. The two times Ryobi had me return to Home Depot and I got new mower. Nice but it was hassle to return. The 3rd time they had me take to a local authorized Ryobi dealer for repair. It was a 40 minute drive one way and they had my mower 8 weeks. They did not fix, but they replaced. Now today it goes out again for the 4th time. I am sure I still have warranty, but there got to be a better way. I have a lot of Ryobi tools but this design is obviously flawed. Seems like Ryobi would recall or send out a real fix? I don't see how they making money by replacing lawnmowers for this Self Propel design flaw under warranty. My real worry is when 3 years is up. I would like a permanent fix as I must have Self Propel working on my lawn.
Well, this is a permanent fix that most people can handle. Why Ryobi doesn't redesign it is a mystery because, as you say, these returns are costing them a small fortune. If they just mass-produced my fix they could glue it in place in seconds per mower.
This has been the best how-to video and helped tremendously, saving me a service call of close to $200!! Thank you so much! 😊
Great! It's always nice to save a few bucks.
I have had my Ryobi lawnmower for 3 years and I am just now realizing the self propel has never worked. I just thought it was not a very great feature. I hadn't cut my own grass in 15 years when I decided I could save money by cuttiing my own grass. My neighbor came over and said I was working way to hard pushing the mower. He confirmed after looking at it that that feature should be propelling the lawn mower, not me. It must be broke. I am debating whether to ship it to Ryobi or try to take apart the handle myself. My question to you is, If I do that are you saying I will need that special screwdriver you bought? Also, is that spacer you made "necessary"? I am a 74 year old woman living in Florida just to let you know I could use some help from a handy man. Linda in Orlando
Boy, just mowing half of a small yard w/o the self-propelled feature not working wore me out, so I couldn't imagine doing it for 3 years. Unfortunately, your mower is out of warranty, so you will either have to find someone who can make this simple fix or take it to a shop that can. You can buy the T15 screwdriver at any hardware store, but first do you hear the click when you pull the green handle?
I have had problems with this ice maker not producing ice, so I replaced the unit and it still hasn’t worked? What is the problem? I am at a loss both monetary and intellectually
It may be either a water supply or a solenoid valve issue. After making sure water is making it to the fridge then the valve is the culprit. They are relatively easy to replace as is shown in this video: th-cam.com/video/eH3gs8s-0YY/w-d-xo.html
