The vastness of india and the vastness of its population. Despite that he was able to find his mother despite the odds against him. That is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.

    • @obscurelyvague
      @obscurelyvague 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Her young son essentially disappeared without there being any clue as to where he could have gone. In the movie it is said that "Lion's" older brother died when he got hit by a train (or that is what I best recall). I am not sure if that is why the older brother never returned to pick up "Lion" from the train station, or maybe the older brother died weeks or months after "Lion" disappeared. It is true that Lion's mother might have stayed in the same location because it would make it easier for her son to find her someday, but it is still amazing that nothing happened that she had to move, such as the village being flooded and people have to migrate out of it, or maybe the mother got very sick and had to be taken to a village that is nearer to a hospital and even though it is a primitive and poor village in which any major renovations or changes ( the construction of buildings and roads) are not likely to happen for decades because the location is remote and there is nothing much for anyone to want to travel there, it is just lucky that the village stayed mainly the same as when Lion was a boy so that he could come back and remember where he had been as a child.

      Well yes and Saroo says in his book that this was all she could do, since she couldn't read or write, didn't have any photos of him and so couldn't report him as missing. While he was using Google Earth and obsessively looking for his place of birth for six years, his mother relied on her faith and stayed where he could find her. I cried reading this, it's so touching and powerful.

    I cry every time, especially when they mention Guddu ;-; makes me wish I had a better bond with my younger brother, who hates me more than he loves me. I try every day to show him how much I love him, hugging him, kissing him, but every hug ends with me being pushed away, every kiss wiped off of his cheek. Sometimes I'll hate him back, with all of his name calling, and the pain he's caused, but that doesn't ever change how I feel about him in the long run. And when we do have moments of connection, it's like there's nothing else in the world. Oh, brothers.

    This beautiful story is very touching to me, I feel Saroo and his loneliness and I'm so happy that he finally found his family.
    I'm not adopted, but I live in Italy and my mother is from the Philippines. I've never met my filipino grandparents and their family in 30 years and I feel pretty similar to Saroo, having a big void inside me. I can only imagine how Saroo felt when he met his mother and his native town. I hope one day I will meet my grandparents and I wish the same to adopted people who has never met their parents.

    What a movie!! One of the best in years....so emotional! Especially people who had loss in familiy can find even more yourself in it..and how much important family and their presence is. I lost my brother years ago, so last scene of this film makes me cry like rainstorm....but in general really great story, scenario, playing....perfect film!!

    Amazing story..Its so much touching...A color of human spirit. A child lost when he was child and had hardly any clue left with him about who he was and where he came from, but he came back finding his root with the help of the blurred visions he had in his mind as memory....what a touching story...

    I want to say something for everyone to see.
    I am an Indian but I was born and raised in the United States. My father was born in India. He grew up on the third story of a run down apartment building that only had one bedroom with his two brothers, mother, and father. Like Sheru (Saroo) he had to support his family at such a young age. My dad focused on his family and school. He skipped two grades in school. He went to medical school at 16 years old and is currently an Anesthesiologist. He moved to the U.S. and had kids. He would get me and my siblings things that his family would never be to afford for him. My dad was able to make a living when he came from a one bedroom apartment. He has spent his whole life supporting his family. I am very lucky. We all are. These kind of things happen every day in these countries. What makes me really mad is that from what I see is kids here in the U.S. are saying that they want to die when their parents take away their phone. They don't realize what is actually going on in this world. This story was absolutely heartbreaking to me. And if you didn't know saroo has been saying is name wrong when he was little. It was actually sheru which means lion.
    I just wanted to send this message out.
    Thank you and tell your parents and siblings you love them every time you see them❤️

    Here's why Hollywood sucks: This was a phenomenal motion picture that deserved greater recognition at the Oscars. However the blowhards had to give best picture to a movie about a gay black kid. Next year it will be a gay black girl with one leg and a speech impediment. Hollywood has lost its way. It's being so politically correct and agenda driven, it's cutting its own throat. The public has had enough of that stupidity. Lion was the true Best Picture of the Year. Thank you Australia for a quality film that Hollywood doesn't have the class to make. You're welcome. .

    Loved this film. The story was beautiful but the coming of age scenes cost it an Oscar. They had little space between little boy Saroo lost/getting adopted and reuniting with his mother. In that small space, they tried to cram in a romantic plot, a dysfunctional brother plot, and a self-discovery plot. It weirdly felt rushed but also very slow paced at the same time.
