I feel like Chad is finally getting the respect he deserves. I would say one of if not the most underrated drummers of all time. Dude is fucking nails.
when he tried out for RHCP Flea said it was the first time a drummer ever pushed him to his limits. Chad could keep up with anyone. dude is just incredible and so chill
Hard to say he's underrated with the amount of awards he's won, and in pretty much every top drummers list ever though 😜 The guy is a legend. Just look at how many artists he's played with
What normally happens is that the guest drummer listens to the song all the way through one time. He makes notes, time signature, structure and the like. Then he takes a pass at laying down the drums how he sees fit. Chad listened to thirty seconds of a drum-less track he never heard before and played it near perfect in most parts, and better in some. He said it was 'busy', but I thought that what the song needs. All due respect to Shannon, but this drum line is fire.
Nah he hasn't heard it, I believe him. He's been impov-ing with rhcp for 30 years. He has the best ear of any rock drummer i've ever seen. Unbelievable.
He immediately recognized that it's in 3's, and then proceeded to almost PERFECTLY replicate Shannon Leto's drumming almost spot for spot. Chad is INSANELY intelligent.
His blind improv was SO close close. Got the time right, the crash points were perfect, fills were spot on and flawlessly matched the "energy" of the song and played just as hard as the rest of the song
This was just insane. I mean, everyone else* on this challenge has at least listened to the track once before doing a take but this absolute maniac just jumps right in. The combination of just going totally balls to the wall and playing everything with such confidence - and at the same time being able to really listen to what the other players are doing is just mesmerizing. I've listened to this N times on the Drumeo channel and now looking through the reaction vids because I just can't get enough :D Like some of those passages on the middle of the track just blow me away, the way he can take the impulse from the guitar coming in or the vocalist ramping up and just in a split second change what he's doing, AND do it with such confidence. Wow. * Nothing against the people who listen first and then do, that's also cool and I guess how you *should* tackle a challenge like this.
What improvisation😱What skill🤘 Having never heard the piece...A Big Drummer Mr. Chad Smith🥁🔥 ...you can hear and see the experience here...Nice video, I had fun👍
Will admit, was never a big Red Hot Chili Peppers, so I never really knew Chad's drumming. Then I saw Chad drumming with Chickenfoot a few times, amazing drummer. And seems quite the character. lol Wish Sammy, Mikey, Satriani and Chad could revive Chickenfoot for another album/tour. Was a fun band.
Wait a minute, when you said like button, the like button lit up on screen...aside from the genius that is Chad Smith in this, that was the coolest thing I've seen today.
I rock the meinl cymbals, only cymbal company that makes cymbals solid enough and havent broke or cracked yet. Shoutout to those guys for sure!!! I use there pure alloy custom cymbals
I have a mix of Paiste, and Zildjian cymbals personally. I go for what sounds good at the store and whatever I'm looking for at the time. But I've tried all the major brands.
There’s a couple of tracks off of John’s solo album “shadows collide with people” that have chad on drums and flea on bass. I believe “this cold” is one of them. Anyways, you’re crazy for not liking Rhcp. They innovative a whole style and have fun. How can you not like them? 🤦♂️
I'd love if will feral did a movie about this guy about his life (AFTER) the tour stops trying to be. I always thought it was an interesting story. Then about the red hot chilli peppers come back. (not that they really went away) Like how older bands learn to relate to their audience and the people in there lives and deal with all the baggage that comes from touring basically from 19ish to 30. And you gotta be a whole ass person now. This guy has such a vibe i bet it would be one hell of a story.
I’ve always felt Chad is a bit underrated as a drummer when compared to other drummers. You can see the years of experience with live gigs, studio and session work with his playing ability. My favorite drummer of all time and the one that I think ranks above all others is Neil Peart.
This is what I call a world class drummer. I like El Estepario too but… Chad Smith is a true professional. El is like a machine. I would love to see him improvise like this. He turns on the camera when he’s practiced and ready. Go into something like this cold I bet that is where El is lacking. Just my opinion.
Pie-stee? PIE-STEE?! I've literally never heard anyone say it that way before, and apparently it's the correct way?!?! WTF? They have been 'paste' for my entire life until this moment.
Because in some ways criticizing the EMO theme was something we could expect from a serious music enthusiast, we missed out on a lot of good Emo songs that are actually excellent.
"pretty easy song to play". i wanna see you drum to such a pretty easy song to play, my guy. only the fact that you said that, i will absolutely not follow you or watch your content from now on, mister perfect. if you were sooo good at playing drums, how come nobody heard about you, i wonder. sheesh.
Ridiculous comment. What is so difficult about playing this song? Im sure he can play it but no one cares, thats why he does youtube reaction videos because they get views
Ok buddy I think you downplaying how awesome and hard that would have been didn't work out to good for you did it??????????????????????????????????????
I feel like Chad is finally getting the respect he deserves. I would say one of if not the most underrated drummers of all time. Dude is fucking nails.
when he tried out for RHCP Flea said it was the first time a drummer ever pushed him to his limits. Chad could keep up with anyone. dude is just incredible and so chill

yall should really learn what underrated means
Absolutely

"that wasn't bad" is a huge understatment. This guys is absolutely amazing. wow!!
He didn't drop his stick, he fuckn BROKE IT. Man's a legend ❤️❤️❤️✨✨
Chad broke a stick and didn't miss a beat. Fuckin Legend 🤘🏻
When you watch a master display their skills its just mesmerizing. Ive never played drums but i love the song and he showed why he is who he is.
Bro played it so fucking good, the stick broke mid way 😤💪🏼🔥
He said he never heard it before and I believe him. He’s just that good
First of all he’s more than a “good” drummer!! He’s the epitome of drummers!!
You know this guy has loads of space for activities 😂 Man he nailed the vibe of that so well just on the spot!
Very good skill set.
He could jazzercise if he wants. 😂❤
Hey, any of you folks like Guacamole.
Will nailed it
Nah he hasn't heard it, I believe him. He's been impov-ing with rhcp for 30 years. He has the best ear of any rock drummer i've ever seen. Unbelievable.
True, It's those jams man that gives Chad that killer instinct.
Had the opportunity to listen to the whole track, take notes, whatever he wanted. Listens for like 12 measures and dives right in. DUUUUDE!
🤘🥁
Dude! Chad fucking nailed it!! His wheel house has no ceiling bro. I love the song and what he just did!!
I keep finding myself watching reactions to this. It's telling that I like many, probably underestimated how good Chad is.
i saw this earlier and was blown away. He is so good!
He immediately recognized that it's in 3's, and then proceeded to almost PERFECTLY replicate Shannon Leto's drumming almost spot for spot. Chad is INSANELY intelligent.
easy song to play but hes playing it blind after listening to 15 seconds and figuring the timing
Not even thirty seconds 😅
Loved him in The Other Guys..! :)...
His blind improv was SO close close. Got the time right, the crash points were perfect, fills were spot on and flawlessly matched the "energy" of the song and played just as hard as the rest of the song
Absolutely, he’s the best. He’s been doing it for so long, you just need to know the count the break down and build up, you get it.
This was just insane. I mean, everyone else* on this challenge has at least listened to the track once before doing a take but this absolute maniac just jumps right in. 7:12 the last fill by Chad was so frkn awesome
Dude went hard af just breathtaking to listen to his raw talent
What improvisation😱What skill🤘 Having never heard the piece...A Big Drummer Mr. Chad Smith🥁🔥 ...you can hear and see the experience here...Nice video, I had fun👍
I’ve watch this 15 times and still amazed!
Same here, he nailed it! 🤘
When i was a kid i had the ZXT series from Zildjian. Pretty snazzy sound.
Always love Chad's sarcastic nature 😂
He won’t lie, he didn’t hear it. It’s definitely different but close, he killed it,
Wow 🤩 For not ever listen to the song, he’s really good 🤩❤️
Hes a live jam drummer thats how hes made his chops and how his whole band works..... Thats y it sounds so good
Wow i love Chad, one of ny favorites
He used to play with Sabian cymbals and Pearl drums, now is Paiste and DW drums
Came here from YT Shorts. Learned two things: Chad is awesome! J Lato actually makes good music. Thanks!
I have never heard the original . so now I can never listen to this song without chads drums :)
man, Dale is gonna be really pissed he touched his drums LOL
Will admit, was never a big Red Hot Chili Peppers, so I never really knew Chad's drumming. Then I saw Chad drumming with Chickenfoot a few times, amazing drummer. And seems quite the character. lol Wish Sammy, Mikey, Satriani and Chad could revive Chickenfoot for another album/tour. Was a fun band.

Holy HELL he hits hard!!!
We won't tell his bro, but you almost gave him a lesson there ;) Well done !
15 seconds to a Legend
Zildjian for hi hats, Paiste for everything else for sure.. Zildjian rides are more prone to cracking in my experience
chad is amazing, a genius
Drum nerds rule!
Thank you Chad for breaking the internet.
Will Farrell and Chad Smith drum off is amazing Will dresses as Chad
I rock the meinl cymbals, only cymbal company that makes cymbals solid enough and havent broke or cracked yet. Shoutout to those guys for sure!!! I use there pure alloy custom cymbals
He didn't drop a stick he fucking broke a stick in the middle of the music and haven't lost the pace of it...
I have a mix of Paiste, and Zildjian cymbals personally. I go for what sounds good at the store and whatever I'm looking for at the time. But I've tried all the major brands.
That's called experience and listening skills....
👌🏻
Will Ferrell is such an amazing drummer. I don't even like RHCP music but I've always respected Chad Smith as a drummer, same with Flea as a bassist
There’s a couple of tracks off of John’s solo album “shadows collide with people” that have chad on drums and flea on bass. I believe “this cold” is one of them. Anyways, you’re crazy for not liking Rhcp. They innovative a whole style and have fun. How can you not like them? 🤦♂️
Chad Smith is a KILLER !!!!
Who are the guys that call in drummers to play songs they don't know ? I want to watch more of them. (Link Please)
Learn how to do a youtube search. ffs
It’s Drumeo, check their channel out! They’re fantastic
I love when he throws in the cowbell 😂😂😂
Great video probably my favorite drummer I got a couple of favorites but he’s slightly ahead, plus he seems mad cool
The fills are insane 😮

He is close on emo and My Chem Romance both 😮
I’ve always felt Chad is a bit underrated as a drummer when compared to other drummers. You can see the years of experience with live gigs, studio and session work with his playing ability. My favorite drummer of all time and the one that I think ranks above all others is Neil Peart.
i remember trying to learn this song one a simple 5 piece set up and the zijan symbals i easily carried the song
That's decades of jamming with Flea and John
It's enjoy to see your reactions Colby!
Thank you 🤘🏻
He put his 🥜 sack all over that drum set 😂
i couldnt believe this so good man
This is what I call a world class drummer. I like El Estepario too but… Chad Smith is a true professional. El is like a machine. I would love to see him improvise like this. He turns on the camera when he’s practiced and ready. Go into something like this cold I bet that is where El is lacking. Just my opinion.
"He's so damn great!"
Well maybe because he's always jamming with John Frusciante and Flea. Both of them is a master of their own craft.
Chad smith and Stuart Copeland are my 2 favourite drummers so I did enjoy it. I prefer Zs over the other cymbals mate
Wow. Holy.....wow.
Kickassery
👍 Yep. I like the Description for your channel! 🖖❤
Great reaction Colby!
Even the drumsticks gave up on him
Pie-stee? PIE-STEE?! I've literally never heard anyone say it that way before, and apparently it's the correct way?!?! WTF? They have been 'paste' for my entire life until this moment.
Wuauuu que pasada Chad Smith puff!!!
Not easy of you don’t know the song haha
Awesome!
Incredible
Everyone gets jealous. When they play better than them.
He killed it!
Chad is funny and amazing drummer💖💕💕🔥🔥
What software are you using to do this?
I go paiste for small cymbals and zyldjinn for the rides or just bigger than 16's
bro get that sabian sponsor lol
cant forget them! xD
Because in some ways criticizing the EMO theme was something we could expect from a serious music enthusiast, we missed out on a lot of good Emo songs that are actually excellent.
He's good 😮
Three is key 🗝
Literally a Gigachad 😂😂😂

Have you heard Matt McGuire do this song?
I haven’t, I’ll need to check it out 🤘🏻
@@ColbyFultonDrums its awesome
Sabian ALL DAY!!
DW is the best !
Seriously dude. “It’s a Pretty easy song to play”. That isn’t an easy song to play.
Do you actually ever play the drums on a video?? Or just react?
He plays too. Go take a look ffs
To believe, and say, that he has heard it ruins the reaction.
Pff the BEST faking god
"pretty easy song to play". i wanna see you drum to such a pretty easy song to play, my guy. only the fact that you said that, i will absolutely not follow you or watch your content from now on, mister perfect. if you were sooo good at playing drums, how come nobody heard about you, i wonder. sheesh.
