An Australian reviews Cold Ones' Grog

  • The chaps behind ‪@coldones‬ have finally done what everyone has been asking them to do for years, and released their own alcoholic drink, called Grog! However, it's only available in Australia for now. In this video, we review both flavours of the drink and compare it to existing beverages on the market.
EDIT: Since this video seems to be getting some traction, I just want to clarify this review was not sponsored. I am merely a Cold Ones fan giving my honest thoughts.

0:35 Contrary to popular belief, Tasmania does, in fact, exist.
3:15 Strong Zero/-196 is actually only available in Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Australia.

You'd think that every alcohol company in Australia would have been all over that instantly, considering that it's such a common name for alcohol here.
I bet that we'll be seeing a drink named 'Goon' in the near future that's a grape flavoured drink instead of wine.

In aus at least the branding of -196 is that it’s straight fruit frozen and crushed. I assume the crushed ice is extracted with the alcohol to reduce the wastage in freezing the alcohol. I had grape yoghurt Fanta in Japan (grape flavoured fanta branded calpis) and it literally tasted like grape Fanta flavour in calpis soda, ie delicious.

A little fact for the Suntory one (or any other Japanese food product)
An art work of a fruit in a package of a product resembles on how much it tastes like, if it simple it doesn't taste that much and if it's more realistic it tastes almost one to one of the fruit itself.

I used to live in Japan and the only time i could find a grape flavour like i was used to as an Aussie was American imported stuff like Dole brand juice 😂 So beware if youre in japan and want to try grape stuff, itll be similar to the strong zero here! At 4:34 it doesn't mean expire/used by. it's best before . i only point out cause i've notice people think bb means got to use it before that date. lucky me i get free red rock deli chips every year lol I love the review from fellow man from Hindley St lol

I think some of the controversy around hard solo was that it would appeal to underage drinkers which is fucking hilarious because nothing is further away from appealing to underage drinkers than 10 standards for $50 , when it is exactly just solo and vodka which obviously you can already purchase on their own.

Grog is my go to for vodka mixes, Although the price is the real kicker, As the guy said for craft brews its pretty cheap but for 8 cans I can't justify $54 when I can grab a 30 pack of VB cans for $63. Then again grog tastes like max and chads very essence was ringed out of their souls and VB tastes like goat piss.

2:28 another things is how on earth are kids going to accidentally purchase an age restricted drink? The second it gets scanned you've got red alerts saying ID the customer, or if it were in a bar the you don't serve yourself the barman does! Trying to ban a silly lemon drink as if there aren't structures already in place to stop this? Why is based off the fact that there's a non-alcoholic version? Did they think about banning WKD cocktails because of the silly fun colours?

I think the reality is that if a parent keeps them in the refrigerator and their child grabs a solo, theres a chance they could be consuming an alcoholic drink without even realising. I dont think this is an unreasonable idea, its not really an overreaction, and it could be solved by changing the name to distinguish it wholeheartedly

6:28 in fairness, that's only 4 flavours a year. Realistically, they could make 4 random flavours a year. I mean, they have straberry and grape so far. Heres 4 for the next year; pineapple, lemon, mango, apple.
Hell, heres next year: cherry, rasberry, peach, watermelon.
Then, if they begin to run out, just start combinations. At around 8 individual flavours. You'll be able to get what ? 28 combinations of just two of them. Then a triple flavour adds tonnes of opportunities, so 4 a year for the next decade, if it's successful, is easily achieveable

Grogg is very popular in sweden, not grog but grogg. Even tho it really is the same, vodka and soda. the good old 90/10 grogg hits hard when you dont expect it to be that strong xD

I think they should make a new mixed pack rather than just one new flavour, even if it takes longer than even 6 months
