If people want actual Berserk references, they should look at things like the Sulyvahn's Beasts in DS3, or the concept of the Greatsword weapon, or if we're being generous, characters like Blaidd, who only refers to Guts in terms of weapon size and fighting style. They shouldn't look at anything that vaguely reminds them of Berserk and say" reference!".

The berserker armor doesn't have any cloth at the sides. Ones still obviously silver under the muck and the other pitch black.

Yes, Miyazaki loves Berserk. However, some of these aren't direct references as Berserk took heavy inspiration from middle-aged Europe. The Church to execute heretics would tie a person to the spokes of wheels and twist them, then leave the wheels on sticks.

The dark sign symbolizes the cycle of slaying powerful souls and sacrificing yourself to feed the first flame, and the eclipse symbolizes the sacrifice of everything significant to oneself to ascend to godhood along with the rest of the God hand before you which all made the same choice. They both are polar opposites, sure. Sacrificing yourself to prolong the world is selfless, and sacrificing everything to ascend is selfish. But nonetheless they both tackle a loop of sufferage.

The wheels are neither from berserk nor dark souls. It is referenced from real life. The breaking wheel was a common execution method in the HRE they’d break your limbs while you’re alive and then they’d string the broken limbs through the spokes of the wheel while they’re still alive. Then they’d leave you to die or if you’re “lucky” they keep beating you with cudgels while your on the wheel until your dead. This is why many executed bodies in medieval and fantasy games are left on wagon wheels.

Also if you look at the way the structures are outside of the playable area a lot of the castle walls look very similar in design to some in berserk

Some of these definitely aren’t references. Like the prisoner helmet one always annoyed me. Cause, no, the prisoner helmet is based on the man in the iron mask. It’s very clearly different to Griffith’s falcon helmet. I can believe the design is bezerk inspired, aesthetically, but the prisoner helmet is clearly not Griffith’s helmet
