I wish my ex and I could free flight our conure, but we live in an area with soooo many raptors that I'd be worried he'd get picked off pretty quick.
we fly with raptors everyday, i think people forget australia has more predators then any other country haha.
It should always be asked though, is it the birds need or your own?
Almost all small birds can meet there mental and physical needs indoors, so what reason is there to put them at risk? unless you replicate protective factors it may not be best idea. www.adventuresofroku.com has more detailed info :)

I dont think intentionally setting free a non native species is intelligent or good ethics? They may not even survive due to developing to live in the Australian outback with their primary food source being our native fauna.
Many times people believe they are doing something right but in reality its the opposite, education and understanding the full picture is what resolves this. :)

Right? I'm sure they get asked this very question constantly, but we must know the answer......please answer 😓
how do they flock together? they are not the same species
flocking is more a defensive behaviour first not so much a social one (doesn't mean they dont do it socially) so when you have parrots of different species whom know each other its quite often you will see them flocking together though not always as flight styles/patterns can vary too much ie macaws vs conures.
Pabu will try fly with Roku & Korra but cant keep up as they fly long, wide and high, Pabu being a cockatoo prefers to be lower, zippy and short/brief :)

not all birds can or should be free flight trained. its 100% dependent on their brain development and species. I always recommend keeping your birds flighted indoors as free flight training is not achievable for most.

In my opinion it's wrong to clip a bird or deny them from flying. It is their birth right to be able to fly and taking that away from them is cruel.
I agree but sometimes it's better for the bird if they are clipped to keep them from harming themselves, just saying
They don't fly for enjoyment, it's just a natural, adaption to them to find food. Well, at least that's what the TH-cam yoll (owl and birds of prey) says.
MrRedeyedJedi Yeah it’s really not cruel at all. It’s just up to the owner if they are willing to train their bird properly to fly indoors or even free flight outside. It’s like having an indoor cat or like a hamster. You don’t have to take them outside, but if you do, accept the risk and make sure they won’t hurt themselves.

If an animal Is Born with the urge to Fly to Survive, then in captivity where they are safe from Predators or Need to find food, they wont have that instinct and Will be Just fine

it's not just based on loyalty though, not just anyone can fly a plane, you need to have the right skill set.
Just because birds have wings does not mean they automatically have the skill set either.
I'm sorry to hear about your bird, I hope its ok it must be terrified. Just more valuable lessons in managing the environment when they are out. :(
