Good attitude! Waste not want not. At my age....75...I need to pace myself. Found a lot north of me that the owner destroyed and removed an old house, there were about 6 trees, good sized ones and went by there one day and they were down. Came back by another day and they were cut up. Next day there was a sign .....free firewood! Went home and got my little trailer and loaded it up, got it home and got it split up. Went back next day and got 6 pieces....the rest were too heavy for me to lift. Another day came by and two guys were standing on the lot talking....next day all the wood was gone. But I got a trailer and a half, made one rick. Then my wife told me a dead cedar tree on our property had blown over. Went out and looked at it. Cut it up and stacked the brush, then used a garden cart to make several trips to my splitter with the good wood. By the time I got that split and stacked, I got the most aromatic rick of firewood I have ever had! HA HA Anyway, by the time I got that split, my wife had moved all the top limbs to our burn pile site and burned them! Pretty much replaced everything we burned last winter...very mild winter...so not looking for more wood presently. But I always keep an eye out in my neighborhood. Some folks have fireplaces but are too lazy to work with it if a tree falls over on their land. We have heated our home in the winter for the past 40 years with wood, and I love splitting and stacking on my back porch when it is raining or snowing! HA HA In the dry.
That's the kind of stuff I like, last year a landowner had a section of woods cut down and brought up to a place right next to his driveway that went around his barn I pulled right up next to the pile cut it and I don't remember how many loads I got, I have 4 foot sides on my trailer I took the stuff 16 to about 20 inches really nice straight stuff, there was some stuff 36 inches I took the easy stuff it was all free he just wanted it out of there after I took a bunch of loads next time I showed up a log truck was there loading up the rest I still got a couple more loads because of so much the log truck had to make probably 4 to 5 loads , it was close to roadside logging, have a great day
I’m glad you are rescuing all that wood to keep your house warm, I’m exactly like you, waste not, want not, it’s the principle of the thing. All the best from England. Ps, don’t do your back in, it took nine months for mine to come right, i nipped a nerve to my right calf.
Leaving tops in the woods has some positives. Creates habitat and cover for small game, protects regen from deer and puts back to the soil. A hardwood timber harvest looks a lot different up here compared to PA
I have heated my home for the last 20 years doing the same thing you are I have winchs and 250 ft cables with snatch blocks for getting out trees way back in off the log roads. most of the trees were storm damage already laying down, the only trees i had to cut were one blocking the roads, I am from Harding p.a.
Gracias. Es genial volver a salir y hacer cosas como esta. El clima ha estado tan húmedo los últimos días que no estoy seguro de cuándo volveré a salir.
Awesome stuff. I’ve seen a logging / land clearing company skid the whole tree out to landing. Cut the lumber mill logs. Chip the tops right into a trailer. I believe the chips get sold to the paper mill by the ton.
Hi Schieb, another good video! My God, those loggers should be stopped, what a mess, and what a waste of good wood! Be good to see more! Cheers Len (Devon 🇬🇧)
Was watching an old video of yours yesterday and you had the old red dually with the trailer and we’re hauling a couple of loads of logs. There was something about the old truck that looked unique. Nice score of wood. Cheers my friend
Good show brother! It's pretty common to find that kind of mess after a property has been logged off. Of course we WoodHounds see it as a complete waste of wood, but in reality, as it rots it becomes very fertile soil for the next generation of seedlings. It is nice to see you get that larger stuff, especially the one that split. Beauty of a buck you got there, he'll look great amongst your display! Blessn's to ya, Tedd
Wooo! Yes, it is crazy to walk an area that was just recently logged - lots and lots of tops everywhere. I think Adam from Hometown Acres did one and took home about 4 dump trailer loads in just one day.
Must feel good to get out do some more scavage logging You should be able to get down there and clean up some more. Those good talks before access get cut off. It's amazing what they live in the woods to just rot. Become the fuel for fire if in the heat was ever to get lit.
Good video, Schieb..I was curious to what magnetic firewood marker you like best? I have seen you use a couple different ones..Been looking at the Perfect Stick myself. Thanks for any input on this.🤟
Did you have a reverse light out? In a good way you’re like a turkey vulture. You clean things up and leave no waste. Good hard work that pays off. The different species is always a good surprise . Do you run any other saws?
Hi Scheib!!😀😀 It would be nice if they chipped all the tops. But when it costs more to do it than what you get for it. It's just not feasible to do. It will rot down and turn into fertilizer for the new woods that is growing up. Nice buck!!👍👍 What did it score?? Take care buddy!!😀😀💚💚 Logger Al
Scheib, drove by your place today. I saw those logging areas along 325 on the way in. There sure are a bunch of spots that they logged off along that hill side. I was in Harrisburg for work and took the scenic route home, I wanted to get a better look at your road side stand. I’m in the process of designing one for at my place and I’m looking at ideas other people had. Any suggestions on designs, things not to do or things you found that work good? Stay safe, keep on Cuttin!🪵🪵🪵🪵
hi there good find but not your size ,needs to be over 24 inches and real heavy , did you ask them if they had any Sycamore.lol well done . best to all john
@@OutsidewithScheib there destroying every by me slapping houses on top of each other. Especially if it's waterfront. Thanks for the reply and keep up the good work.
They left a real mess when they logged the property next to mine a few years ago. They were skidding the logs out onto my property even took some of my trees down making a landing. Wasn't to happy about all that. I go out and look after they leave and there was bar oil jugs laying around, drink bottles, I even found a gas can. All sorts of trash they left. I understand the limbs and tops and all but the huge ruts and trash everywhere. Looked like a homeless camp was back in there with a tractor when they got done. The guy that owns the land doesn't care he lives on the other side of the country haven't seen him in probably 20 years. He just sold it recently to the new neighbor. Sure there is still probably tops all over out there but its been so long now its all rotten. I should have skidded them out with the ATV. I did take some of it out but it was such a mess and always so wet back in there didn't really want to drag it all through the mud. It was mostly cherry and maple.
My wife thinks I have a problem. When we're out driving I'll see a pile trees, from a storm or lot clearing, and I immediately say "Look at that firewood going to waste". It irritates me to see downed trees rotting or being burned. I admit that she thinks I have a problem, I disagree.

Nice find for sure. The 500 was cutting very well.
Thanks 👍it sure was
Nice work Schieb, love watching your videos.
Hello Schieb, 500i Magic! Splits the wood in half!😂 good find💪🤘🏻🪵🇺🇸
I was surprised to see such a nice log laying there. Then you split it Captain America style and I figured it out 😅 Nice haul!
Hey Scheib nice score. What a mess they left. Nice Deer buddy.
Morning Scheib , that was a nice busted log you got . The deer mount is beautiful
. Glad you got it back !! 👍🏻🇺🇸🪵🔥🦌
I always enjoy your road trips. This episode was especially interesting...

NICE FIND ON THE WOOD....BEAUTIFUL RACK ON THE WHITETAIL 👍💯
Hey, brother. Another sweet score! Get some more of that. Bless you. Chip
That's awesome. I get much of my wood the exact same way here in North Central Minnesota.
You put me in mind of myself. Going out and getting wood were you can get it. Great job
You should like todays video then
Cool I'll be waiting for it

Good video Schieb, you're passenger side backup light is burned out, although you have more than likely noticed by now.
Nice free score Scheib and great job loading the truck.
Me alegra verte de nuevo recogiendo leña del campo

I think they may come back and do that I can’t see any tops from the previous cuts
Nice job Scheib .. that’s a nice stack. Nice Buck and also like your truck
Thanks Scott
Glad to see you got some good wood out of there. Be careful with taking your truck in there - those limbs can mess some stuff up.
Yeah I cleaned up a good bit of debris before driving in there.
Hi Schieb, another good video! My God, those loggers should be stopped, what a mess, and what a waste of good wood! Be good to see more! Cheers Len (Devon 🇬🇧)
That's great to get free wood
Seed tree cut is common or a shelter wood cut where those seed trees stay behind to leave structure for the regeneration such as a wind break

Not a bad deal when you can drive to the log your cutting.
Good score ther
Nice video!! Hopefully you'll get lots of wood from this!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day

Great buck buddy! Nice to see your mount. You are a worker my friend. Great job!
Nice work Don. Im hopefull our weather will improve soon, I miss roadside logging.
Kenny
your right rear backup lite is out on the silverado
Thank you I’ll get it fixed up
Great video and very nice buck!
I agree !! That is a mess , they should of made brush piles !! And nice buck too !
Nice load of oak there Scheib. Not shore if you know you might have a reverse light out on the passenger side of your truck.
Yes. Be careful driving on those tops. If the tire pops one up, that could leave a nice dent. That would suck!
I heated my house for over 10 years with road side free wood

nice load of oak firewood
Some good looking wood. Talk to any landowners in you area and maybe you can get wood from any blow down or dead stuff from them.
Good video, Schieb..I was curious to what magnetic firewood marker you like best? I have seen you use a couple different ones..Been looking at the Perfect Stick myself. Thanks for any input on this.🤟
The perfect stick is great he has improved it a lot. I just got the mingo marker I am getting use to it but any other the magnetic markers work great.
Hey buddy how are you doing I'm good great video great scores
When I cut wood I'll usually cut down to 1-2 inches thick I make sure I get 90- 95 percent of the wood.
Love your Videos
I watched you at different events are you from tower city area. I live in hegins valley. Never knew that
yep
Free wood is good wood

I have an ms290 that I run every now and then

Do you have to get any kind of permission to go on these places or is it open to anyone?
I have gotten permission years ago I use the app called ONX hunt to find the owner
hi there good find but not your size ,needs to be over 24 inches and real heavy , did you ask them if they had any Sycamore.lol well done . best to all john
Dang they leave a mess and a lot of fire wood that’s going to waste laying around 😮
They mowing down everything by you and slapping up houses?
no this is owned by a water company they cut in this area every few years .

Good video scheib! Do you run a 500i?
yes i do
How do you get permission on these places
No permit need just asked for permission from the land owner
👍👍
Scheib nothing wrong with free and you can sell it for money 💴 😮😊❤
Just to let you know that your right rear back up light is not working, of all things to notice 😅
🎉
That more like off reading logging
Have you ever tried alligator hunting !
No I haven’t
Can’t do this in the UK it pisses me off. No wood can be removed without permission
Back up light out

It’s not state property
You wouldn't of been hitting the ground because you're on top of limbs and scrap wood.
You wear chaps
sometimes
Nice you took advantage of what they left to rot.some nice oak. But not as nice as that buck he’s a beauty shieb 🪵🦌👍🇺🇸
Free wood is the best kinda wood 🪵, especially when it’s oak 🌰 !!!!
