I met South African Indians who were highly experienced nurses who left South Africa and came to London to work. They were telling me about how jobs were going to nurses who had barely qualified and had no experience of specialist nursing (cancer wards ITU, paediatrics, theatre etc).
I work in local government and it’s almost impossible to get rid of incompetent and unproductive staff. Good people come and go, but the bad ones never leave because they know they'll never get such an easy ride elsewhere. Over time this leads to an accumulation of uselessness. We can laugh at how these policies are putting incompetent people into positions they don’t deserve, but it could be 40 years or more before it works its way out of the system.
