      The bigger question is why they didn’t use their Sherman 76 properly, the APHE shells that cannon fired were more than enough to penetrate the hull and the turret of the tiger. They could’ve just shot at it as soon as they saw it and knock it out in one or two shots

    Most of these deleted scenes actually make a lot of the real movie make sense, or at least more sense. Like the hatch. That's an important detail. The talk about going home. I want to see the full directors cut, with everything in it. I don't care if it's 4 hours long.

      Yes the deleted scenes usually do help. We were watching a movie one time I don't remember the name of it but it it cut from like a dinner scene to something else and it was really confusing from then on the whole movie was confusing. Anyways we found the deleted scene was in the DVD and that deleted scene pretty much summed up the whole movie it was really stupid that they cut it it was only like a minute and a half.

    • @jessm7482
      @jessm7482 7 ปีที่แล้ว +137

      Agreed. I felt that they left out a lot of important information in the final cut. I always wondered why Wardaddy had some sort of connection to Norman, and turns out in the original script apparently Wardaddy had a brother named Norman that shared a lot of similarities with the kid, however he died. So that explains a lot of why Wardaddy protected him multiple times and such. Plus in the original there was a lot more background such as why Wardaddy could speak German, and apparently his mother was born there or he had some type of ancestry so his connection to the war was more personal. Overall I loved the movie, despite the criticism such as it’s lack of accuracy etc, but I felt they did it a big injustice to leave out so much backstory from the characters. Would have made a much more gripping film and possibly could have been 1 of the best in that genre.

      @@absolutelydisgusted8665 Every historical movie in existence sacrifices some historical accuracy during filmmaking process. Every one. The best are "mostly" accurate with few inaccuracies which enhance the viewing experience. That's the way it works. It's a movie, not a documentary. Saving Private Ryan and the beloved Band of Brothers are not entirely accurate either.
      The Tiger skirmish, a favourite punching bag for entitled internet experts is a prime example. Yes, it ignores few basic facts like gun penetration at this distance and presents the infamous "one Tiger equals 4 Shermans" allegory. And so what? The scene is suspenseful, well paced and audio-visually impressive. It works. It works because it uses just the right amount of history coupled with a bit exaggerated but still respectful movie fiction.
      Would a "perfectly historically accurate" version of this event (whether the Tiger wins or loses) be as interesting?
      And a last note: strange shit happens in warfare. At some point an M8 Greyhound armoured car managed to take out the King Tiger by shooting at its ass.

    The sherman didn't have armor like paper contrary to how popular history likes to remember it, they also didn't light up easily since they ran with wet storage and other saftey/easy escape methods, it was one of the most survivable tanks to take a big anti gun hit
    Not much can go toe to toe with late war advance anti tank guns, those things were designed to take out IS-2s or KVs

    Honestly, I don't know who they had advising them on historical accuracy, but the way they dog on the M4 as being a "shit box" is verifiably false. The frontal armor, accounting for slope, was actually equivalent to that of the Tiger 1 and yet the tank itself was at least twice as reliable. It was designed for ease of maintenance and was one of the most ergonomic of the war. The 75 would make quick work of most German tanks and most crews could fire at least twice as fast due to efficiency. The 76 on the Fury could've easily peeled that tiger from the depicted range just as fast as they could slew to the target. That being said, there were only 3 documented engagements between Sherman's and tiger 1s in the entire war. The Army put a great deal of time and focus into developing quality vehicles and only sent the best. The Sherman was absolutely one of the best tanks of the war and is actually known as the most survivable tank of the war. This movie would've been so much better if it didn't seem like 50% of the plot was shitting all over what was in reality a state of the art tank that was loved all around by its crews and infantry along side.

      I think something like less than 2% of total Allied casualties were tankers. A surprisingly high number of tankers survived their Sherman's getting hit as it's design gave crewman easy emergency exit options. Also the British had lots of head injuries as they were adamant about wearing berets instead of padded helmets.

    • @oscarjohnson2130
      @oscarjohnson2130 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's accurate to have the tankers believe the Shermans were shit boxes because even though in hindsight we can look at them like "what a great vehicle" many veteran tankers from ww2 were believed the Shermans were shit purely because of how incredible German tanks were comparison.

    Probably the reason this scene was deleted was because of the historical inaccuracy that the tank will burn up when it gets hit. Considering this movie was at the end of war. This occurrence was very very very rare. This scene could also have been deleted because the acting was a bit over the top.

      Hey bud. The ss fight scene is actually a good one. By that time in the war there weren't many veterans in the battalions anymore mostly new recruits. Either the old or the very young was all that was left of German manpower . The young wanted to fight and die for hitler in the worst way so the scene actually makes sense.

    The M-4 Sherman was mass produced but vastly inferior to any German tank and even anti-tank gun at that time. I once saw a television documentary of an ex SS officer of the 2nd Das Reich Panzer division who stated that he couldn't understand why American tanks weren't better machined or engineered because of the industrial superiority of the United States at that time. He was correct in his observation of this!!
