  • For the groceries or for the race - BMW prepared driving modes for any occasion. In this video, Dylan’s gonna take you through them all on a 2015 F30, including the most dynamic BMW Sport Plus mode. Learn the difference between BMW Sport mode vs Sport Plus: www.bimmer-tech.net/blog/item...
    There are 4 basic driving modes hiding in your BMW system: BMW ECO Pro mode, BMW Comfort mode, BMW Sport mode, BMW Sport Plus mode.
    0:00 Intro
    0:45 BMW ECO Pro mode - focuses on fuel efficiency and mpg.
    1:35 BMW Comfort mode - the basic mode best for everyday comfort driving.
    2:04 BMW Sport mode - increases engine torque and firmer wheel handling.
    2:57 BMW Sport Plus mode - switches the Dynamic Traction Control off.
    Although the first three are enabled in your BMW by default, BMW Sport Plus mode will often need to be unlocked. Fortunately, BimmerTech has you covered.
    Our BMW Sport Plus mode coding will make your engine react faster when you need it the most. Check for your BMW: www.bimmer-tech.net/bmw-idriv...

    There’s a bit to unpack and add to this.
    Based on my M235i, if in auto mode, Sport and Sport+ may hold the gear longer, but that doesn’t provide more torque, as that is pretty much at maximum from 2k rpm through the range. You get more power in the higher rev range, but the power available in Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and the modes not mentioned here (more on those later) does not change. The throttle response changes, so if you change from Sport to Comfort at constant throttle the engine reins in a bit, but that’s because the throttle response changes. You need more throttle command in Comfort compared to Sport to get the same power, but you get the same power.
    Sport+ switches off DSC (hence the wiggly lines light) and switches on DTC. DTC gives you less intrusive electronics, so if you want to fool around at roundabouts but not end up calling the tow truck to get pulled off the island, go Sport+.
    There are two other modes available. Hold the DSC button for around 10 sec (I think) puts you in DSC OFF mode. No traction control at all, but you get the Comfort throttle response, so it is more linear and controllable, but all the power is still available. The e-diff is active in this mode which uses the brakes to control excessive inside wheel spinning. This is the doughnuts in the car park mode, AKA the Widowmaker.
    Finally, there is TRACTION mode. This is DSC off, DTC on, Comfort throttle and soft dampers. This is for snow / slippery conditions.
    As I say, this is based on my M235i, but the basic information should translate. I believe on other cars there are changes to engine mapping, but not sure.

    I thought the only difference with sport+ mode from sport mode was traction control turned off. I thought everything else was the same. Is this not correct?

    • @bimmer-tech
      @bimmer-tech  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      With BMW Sport Mode, traction control means about the same as it does in Comfort Mode. You'll still have Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) activated, to keep you from sliding all over the road. That also means that even in BMW Sport Mode, wheel spin can be hard to come by.
      Switch into BMW Sport Plus Mode, though, and DSC is switched off. Not that you're left completely alone - Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) is still there to make sure you keep some control over your car.

    What does setting ENGINE setting (comfort/sport/sport+) do? It supposedly has less throttle response, but it feels so much smoother than sport or sport+. Maybe it's less sensitive but more linear/smoother?

    • @bimmer-tech
      @bimmer-tech  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, in sport modes the throttle response becomes instant, so for some people it might be an issue. You probably prefer to drive more smoothly, so comfort mode suits you better :)

      Hi,
      Sport+ is more "hardcore" than Sport. You might feel no difference, because it is more visible while driving "on the egde" than during regular drive. In Sport+ every parameter gets a little bit sharper than in Sport.

    Which one is the best

    • @bimmer-tech
      @bimmer-tech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no “best” :) it all depends on what you are looking for from your driving experience. Eco Pro mode helps you reduce the fuel consumption, Comfort mode provides drivers with a comfortable driving experience, Sport mode configuration is designed to wring the most performance possible out of your vehicle (even if that means sacrificing fuel efficiency) and in Sport + gears shift almost twice as fast as in the regular drive mode. Traction is partially turned down and the throttle becomes more responsive. Don’t ever think to drive with this last one in rain or snow, safety is first ;)

      @@rhsalce on my 2017 the only difference is that sport + disables traction control. As far as I can tell stability control is still maintained to a certain degree, but traction control is gone and I can get the back end to kick out even with x drive.

    Not quite right , what ever mode you drive in you still have full power.

    • @bimmer-tech
      @bimmer-tech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Power is defined as a work done in a certain amount of time, thus you do not have access to full power in eco mode, as your car changes characteristics and it cannot perform the same as in sport mode - do the same amount of work in time x.
