    I find the EV Mode is really great when caught in slow moving traffic jams and the air con also working on EV at the same time. Not to mention saving fuel through slow moving traffic!

    I think that EV button is good for short uses, like backing the car out of the garage without having to start the engine just to back it out of the garage. Something like that.

      Yes EV mode has a max range of approx 1mile/25mph/40% throttle. That’s the non plug in hybrids. Can’t wait till toyota releases this in the high output plug in version like the RAV4 prime. That things gonna be nuts.

    I use EV mode when moving the car for street sweeping or trash days. If you let the car run normally from a cold start, it will start the ICE. With the EV mode turned on, it will delay starting the ICE until there isn't enough charge on the battery, or you travel to fast/far. Its really great (in certain situations).

  • @user-iz3gv5vo6b
    @user-iz3gv5vo6b 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    EV Mode is for being quiet and not emitting exhaust when in various parking situations. (for example: waiting in line for a parking space at a carpark, driving in an underground carpark, driving the last mile within a gated community or resort.)

    • @jbm0866
      @jbm0866 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like the reviewer said, wouldnt the car be in EV mode automatically in such a scenario? I have to agree the button is more for marketing and gimmick factor than anything else.

    • @user-iz3gv5vo6b
      @user-iz3gv5vo6b 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jbm0866 It's like the auto stop/start on some ICE vehicles, or traction control, or eco/snow/sports modes. It's better to have some control. In some cases, you want to use EV only and others, you want to save the battery charge.

      RAV4 prime may be worth the wait..those things are awesome. I drove one. It’s confusingly fast. I was baffled when I hit the gas. Thing took off was going 85mph when I hit the end of the entry ramp..and very smoothly now shift lag even with engine going hard. Never driven anything like it. Engine a little on the load side when pushing it, but toyota squeezed a lot of extra of power out of that 4cyl. So it makes sense that it was a little noisy. IMO one of the best cars you can get for under 50k.

    I own a 2020 Camry hybrid with the lithium ion battery pack. The only time the ev mode is nice, is during winter. Here in the Midwest the software automatically will turn on the “ice “ to bring it up to optimal operating temperature even when idling . If you want to move parking spots, or drive across a business campus the EV mode is nice to keep the ice from turning on.

    • @dukesim6088
      @dukesim6088 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is the right answer. Preventing for the ICE starting for heating the cabin.
      Another bonus is: you can use 20kw instead of 10kw of power from the battery (numbers for a Prius 4th gen). Normally after passing the ECO-Line the engine starts, because it is more efficient like this, but in EV-mode you can use the maximal output of the battery (which normally is used only when the ICE is running already under heavy acceleration) without starting the ICE.

    The Camry would easily be my number one pick for family sedans partly since it's now the only one left to still offer a 6-cylinder engine, but I would check out the hybrid as well. I had a 2015 Camry XSE V6 that I drove for three years & a half years & was a great car (My brother has the car now). My mom has a 2017 Camry XLE 4-cylinder that I recommended for her now with 55k miles that has been perfectly reliable so far as expected. The only thing this car really needs is a memory driver seat which will likely be added for the next gen since the Avalon offers it, but is being discontinued this year. I have that feature in my current 2016 Lexus GS350 F-Sport & use them all the time even though I'm the only person that drives the car.

    A big reason every trim gets less MPG than the LE is because only the LE has a lithium ion battery and the others all have nickel metal hydride. Lion charges faster in braking. I would guess if you are careful to brake early and gradually you could get close to the LE efficiency. I have heard of SE owners getting 50+ mpg in town.

    Love this car, can’t wait for the aftermarket to catch up with the hybrid systems. Would be cool to have a tune for this vehicle, the engine is capable of way more power than what the factory puts it out as is the hybrid system. Problem is you need a very good ECU program to mod these systems, otherwise you will absolutely destroy the engine and hybrid system. Need something for the synergy drive system and for the CVT that will never happen though as I’m prob the only person on earth who would want to mod a car like this.

      what they should do instead is give it the plugin hybrid prime setup like the rav 4 hybrid prime that pumps out way more juice. If they had a camry with that setup Id order it right now.
