I echo what Brad says.. It's not necessarily sad, there are just soooooo many great bands, and so little time... This is my first time watching this band, but I feel like a lot of the bands I love are "underrated" as well. Just the way things are nowadays, I don't think it's all a bad thing, you just have to find what you like and not care how many people listen to it.
This is the set that got me into them. I was tripping on mushrooms and I remember standing there in awe watching explosions of color surround me and having Andy Hull guide me through it for an hour. This was incredible and I'm so happy it's been memorialized on TH-cam
Front man singer/songwriter Andy Hull is, in my 63 yr old humble opinion, the best recording artist of his generation. I’ve been turning on to Manchester O for over 10 years. The 2006 release of Im Like a Virgin Losing a Child caught my attention for life when i heard the recording of Where Have You Been? Lead Guitarist Robert McDowell has been right there with Andy for the long haul as they have grown and continued to kill it with each new release. Powerful performances and a lyric and message that can’t be forgotten have placed this band front and center for me and many fans like me. Rock it men. Right Away.
I’m like a virgin losing a child rewired my brain. The lonesome crowded west might be the only other album that had a similar effect on me. Glad I can watch this whenever I need a little boost
"We're called Fitz and the Tantrums." Fitz and the Tantrums played on the big stage across the field before MO right up until their set time. Foster the People immediately followed MO on the big stage across the field. The Head and the Heart was the next act on this stage. Extremely hot that day. The sound/lighting tents had their back flaps open for circulation. I was able to watch both Manchester Orchestra's and The Head and the Heart's lighting people do their thing from right behind. and the latter lighting guy was nice enough to answer some questions for me and explain how it all worked.
honestly these guys are one of those bands who you can never truly understand unless you see them alive. listening to their polished studio albums just dont do them justice.
I just got tickets to Toronto for July. Will be my first show of theirs. Cannot freaking wait. Then Pearl Jam shortly after. This is going to be the best year ever!!!!!!
so dang good. Forever one of the best bands. I even love the associated acts, O'Brother, Colour Revolt, Brand New, Thrice, Frightened Rabbit, Owl John, Right Away, Great Captain!, Kevin Devine, Bad Books, and so many more.
Amazing performance, but that last song remains the best performance I've ever seen by them. So much emotion and hope stuffed into four simple chords. Only a band like Manchester can do that. So much respect for this man and his band. I pray to God you won't come back here anymore - do you pray with him too?
The first 5 or so times I watched this video, I could've sworn the guy in the crowd at 24:30 was yelling 'Don't eat that taco!' and not 'Tony the Tiger!'. I still like to think that from time to time.
I know it’s been a while. But I absolutely love this whole show. Love cope! I don’t know what happened after that but I know that this was an absolutely beautiful thing!
I think a lot of people get confused by the band's name, hence their popularity is a lot lower than it should be. I was originally caught off guard by the band name, as I am not interested in some Orchestra from the UK. When they came to NZ they performed in one of the smallest venues with little advertisements, which shouldn't be the case. If they were named "Andy's Band of Boheminas" I think this would have it's million views it deserves.
I just saw Manchester Orchestra in Milwaukee, WI a few hours ago. They were amazing! They opened for Arcade Fire and the crowd sucked! I was losing my mind singing, screaming, and hopping around; while most of the crowd just sat there talking to one another! I couldn't believe my eyes, I mean was the crowd deaf? They are hearing one of the best bands, and showed no emotion. I believe most people were there for Arcade Fire, and their fans are lame! Manchester Orchestra only played for 45 minutes and then placed their guitars on the floor and walked off stage. I think they got tired of the lame crowd. I was pissed! I love Manchester Orchestra!
mtomaselli I was at this show(my ears were in pain afterwards) and thought it was funny as hell seeing that fitz just finished before they came in and thy made a joke about MO. The following year at riot fest before their final song they called themselves fitz and the tantrums. I would like to know the story behind it
I will never stop coming back to this. Are there even concerts at all these days? I mean real ones like this where people WATCH and LISTEN with their eyes and ears instead of their cellphones. The old days, damn boys, you keep taking me back every single time I see this! Love from KY👏 Edit: nevermind. They mostly have their phones. Ugh how shit a band must feel when they are playing music that moves- MOVES THE WORLD- and the majority of the people getting turnt up are all onstage.
Saw these guys opening for cage the elephant- Houston 2011 in a small venue. Was amazing. Much better as live performances. The studio recordings sound too "clean"
Perhaps a bigger fan than I can answer this for me: Does he sing an alternate version of Pride on the first song? I like it more than the album version. Google is usually my #1 but it's not helping me much this time.
+josh fidler (InClaudioWeTrust) Don't think it's recorded anywhere, they've just grown the song over the years of playing it. The double time ending is fucking amazing
Run into this intro a lot being a fan of the whole little group of bands that includes Manchester Orchestra, Brand New, and Kevin Devine. You'll hear this amazing live version of an already great song that's even better than the album but they'll never release a recording of it. Amazing to see live though.

Ethan Cowley Top man thankyou
Not all hero’s wear capes
@@zack3585 but Ethan does on occasion. Usually on weekends.
One of the most underrated bands of the past 10 years... Andy is a genius.
+thecrookedlaberrs I am always thinking why the fuck does not the whole world know about them : | They are my favourite band ever
all bands are under rated theses days. so sad

Jonathan they seriously need to be in everyone's playlist

Hands down: These guys are from another galaxy. These songs are everything my 36 years old full grown emo heart needs.
we are brothers. Also 36 and Manchester Orchestra makes me melt and my heart full

Bruce Rulz Yep. No doubt.

Freeman took these guys to another level.
100% agree with this.. Saw them last weekend and 5 years ago and as amazing as both shows were, Freeman was the hype man they were sorely missing
Their music misses him for sure. Totally agree. However, MO is still insanely talented without him, and Andy is one of the GOATS.
Ugh he was the best
Anybody know what he’s working on these days? He added such an incredible energy to the band.
This sound gives me strength to face the gray days that I have been living through and I never tire of listening to it.
Hands down the best version of pride that they've recorded.
I’m back six years later to confirm this set is mythical.
That's how you open a mother fucking show
This band is so incredibly underrated.
I keep coming back to play this and I still get goosebumps like the first time ever hearing them. Love MO
One of the very best living bands. Just incredible.
Shake it out , when covering biffy clyro at Newcastle, uk in nov 2009 changed my life
100% every single time, the best live band on the planet and massively underated.
You and I love this band. Who cares if they don't appeal to the masses. Just listen and enjoy. Thats all that matters.
This version of “Pride” 🤯🤯🤯👏😎 That’s how you start a set.
Best live show you can go to. This set list is crazy.
"We're called Fitz and the Tantrums." Fitz and the Tantrums played on the big stage across the field before MO right up until their set time. Foster the People immediately followed MO on the big stage across the field. The Head and the Heart was the next act on this stage.

They really are so incredible live. They're amazing on record, but seeing them live just blows a hole through you.
Agreed. At least their records still sound great too. For years thrice recordings sounded dramatically worse than their live sound and it bugged me.
Where are the millions of views? This is awesome!
I just got tickets to Toronto for July. Will be my first show of theirs. Cannot freaking wait. Then Pearl Jam shortly after. This is going to be the best year ever!!!!!!
Energy energy , you can tell they love their music
I love 2019-2020 Manchester but I do wish they’d work Freeman back in. His vocals, Keyboard and emphasizing drums make the band!
Didn't he leave because he wanted to leave? Miss him too, but I think he just stepped away.
so dang good. Forever one of the best bands. I even love the associated acts, O'Brother, Colour Revolt, Brand New, Thrice, Frightened Rabbit, Owl John, Right Away, Great Captain!, Kevin Devine, Bad Books, and so many more.
Wow... wish I'd found them sooner. 💞💓🙏❤
After listening to all the songs, I did hear some of these songs before. I just wasn't smart enough to look them up. 🤯
I can not stop watching this live!!!
Amazing performance, but that last song remains the best performance I've ever seen by them. So much emotion and hope stuffed into four simple chords. Only a band like Manchester can do that. So much respect for this man and his band.

Chris Freeman - Best Hype Man in rock. Good luck buddy. We're going to miss seeing you on the next tour...
parcans and the drummer truly getting into it aswell
Why did Chris leave? He is my favorite part of every live show. Inspires me to sing along with the band at full throat
That percussion. The bassline. Theyre all so alive! Andy Hulls voice...
Plus the dual screaming guitars and wild keyboardist!
Phenomenal.
The first 5 or so times I watched this video, I could've sworn the guy in the crowd at 24:30 was yelling 'Don't eat that taco!' and not 'Tony the Tiger!'. I still like to think that from time to time.
sometimes I watch this in work, and want to go absolutely mental typing like Chris Freeman on my (computer) keyboard
6 years later, still here 👌🏻 (just gone through another keyboard)
I went to the Landmark Music Festival in DC just to see these guys. UN-Farking-Believable show. Love these guys.
Dan Bilzerian killin' it on drums.
Don't compare fake with real 💯
Their keyboarder here would get so pumped. Love it.
I know it’s been a while. But I absolutely love this whole show. Love cope! I don’t know what happened after that but I know that this was an absolutely beautiful thing!
Fuck on earth!
That's fucking awesome! wish I would have been there..

I was there too and totally agree! I felt bad that they had to play to a crowd like that.
Where Have You Been is so beautiful in this show.
I take off my socks and shoes before I play too, just like their drummer. Awesome.🦶🥁
Thank you for sharing this awesome show 😊🎶❤️
Thanks for sharing. Not all the heroes wear capes
It should be criminal to be this good of a band.
Pulling the pickup out of the Tele was genius Andy!
I am about 6,000 of those views
+Brandon Horoho hahahha that was cute!! i will join ya:}
I was there and didn't know much about them. Was...OK. Very different watching now after learning all of their albums for the past few months.
The fritz joke always gets me. I don't think it's the only time they do this either, I think I've seen them make that joke before
love these guys
He told that Fitz and the Tantrums joke here in DC too. Killed.

No, that's 90's Eddie Vedder.
best independent band ever
saw them at the Filmore in San Francisco... they're so good
these guys are beasts
"Why is Pride so quiet?"
"Oh yeah!" *turns volume to 100*
They are so good
greatness
wow that lineup was ridiculous, every song i'd wan't to hear at a show
Seen these guys a ton over the last 10 years, but this performance was probably the loudest I saw. seriously, it was loud as fuck
Who's the guy on keyboard? He's freaking awesome 👌
Had to download this just to throw it into Final Cut and crank the volume
On a other note 🎼🎤🎸🥁 🎹 LEGENDS
Uhh, mind blown.
The Guy jamming by the drums very Cool 🥀🥀🎵🎶🦋
Meu DEUS que energia Fantástica!
Dude is mad at that laptop!
Best opener ever! Wish I was there! haha
Awww. Wish I could go back in time before COVID just to see them.
How come I've never seen them live what's wrong with me?
Alô Brasil!!!!
You......mean.....everything to nobody.....but me!
Great!

Show me another keyboardist with more enthusiasm than Chris… I’ll wait
Imagine going from Fitz & the Tantrums to THIS... whoa
I love that everybody is wearing thrashed ass clothes except Andy who's rocking slacks and a sky-blue pocket polo.

Wonderful, when in Portugal?
Am I the only one who noticed that Andy doesn't have any pickups or knobs and switches on his guitar?
he does, it's a typical tele setup on the bottom of the body
oh shit, lol. I didnt even know
im not lol
realizes he was wrong. punches himself in the face. Hahahaha. I was tripping out though earlier
