I was there as a 14 year old laaitie, what a privilege to see the haka and the boks take the series. I watched all 4 games that the AB'S played at Ellis Park. I was privallaged
The rugby world only got a limited view on how good the Boks might have been for the rest of the 1980s due to sporting boycotts. Even though I'm an AB fan, I would concede had the ABs officially toured SA the previous year 1985 the test series results may have been similar to what happened to the Cavaliers in 86. Gerber, Botha, Wright, Baartman etc, were all world class players. The 1987 RWC may have been interesting had the Boks played.
Definitely shades of the 23 final. NZ always revert to breaking the law once they’re dominated. In 23, of course, both their tries weren’t tries and the cynical Frazel tackle on Bongi should have been a red card. Bongi is out for 6 months.
@@user-eq9jv5uf7d no need to worry. He’s fine. he has 4 world cups on his jersey. We did that in 8 tournaments. How long did it take the All Blacks to get their three? And his country doesn’t go into mourning and consider a change of government if they lose. Or rely on two non tries to win a match they lost anyway.
@@karlernstbuddenbrock371 Yep they will put him on the HGH & he will make a "miracle" recovery same as they did with Kolisi..Bongi cant throw a straight lineout to save his fat ass anyway you should be thanking Frizzel for benching him.
The rugby powers are going to end in the coming future because rugby is getting popular around the world and the bigger populations are going to thrive, like football did.
The players who weren't Cavaliers but played in the RWC the following year were legends like Michael Jones,John Kirwan, David Kirk, John Gallagher and Sean Fitzpatrick . That 87 ABs side at Eden Park would of thrashed the Boks like they thrashed every other team.
And the 1987 world cup was NZ. Plus, that French side was fantastic. One year is a long time in rugby. Take 1994-6. In 1994 and run up in 1995, the ABs didn't look so flash. The Boks will the final. Then the ABs win the series in South Africa convincingly in 1996. Good job the Boks weren't there in 87. It would have made 1981 look like a picnic. The Māori Hikoi to Waitangi was in 1988. Protestors would have taken it to another level. And it would've been an international, not just national stage.
This is the best Rugby documentary/highligts programme to ever be released!!

28 of the 30 players officially picked for the All Blacks the previous year were on this tour. So the odds would have been for a Springbok series win.
agree@@stephenmcloughlin7718
Probably the most enjoyable rugby series I was fortunate enough to watch during the 1980s..including to the present time.
👍
Ref had a shocker
A great bok team of that era
I have the world's respect for the 1986 Cavaliers team!! Putting their lifes and careers in danger to tour to South Africa.
What a try by Garth Wright ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Boks are soft cant handle the jandal..Bongi needs to go to Jenny Craig & he wont get hurt just falling over.

Truthfully, the Boks ball handling could have been better.
Aĺblacks well beaten by the boks and the ref
ahh, those were the days you have a tip tackle and you win the penalty :)
Cavalier by name Cavalier by nature
More or less the full All Blacks squad from the previous season.
@@stephenmcloughlin7718 the RWC winning team the following year has some legends that didn't travel to SA

Thank goodness they didn't get to play in 1987 World Cup
why
New Zealand wouldn't have won it.

You would have to play with neutral referees at the 87 WC.
