[Exploring Korean Literature] Gisaeng Poets of Joseon (조선의 기녀 시인들)

Although gisaengs were the lowest caste in society during the Joseon Period, they were also talented entertainers who could sing and dance. In spite of their low caste, gisaeng poets left their mark in Korean literature with their exquisite poems and other works. Learn about these poems composed by HWANG Jini, YI Maechang, Hongnang, Kyesom, and the stories behind them in this program.

Thank you for another edition in your series. I am interested in Korean culture and history and the people who live and have lived it. I felt the filming, art and narration blended well together. I will go out and see if I can find these stories, since they have probably touched on all arts. Take care, it was beautifully produced, you should all be proud of your efforts!!!

This was very interesting and beautiful. My only complaint would be that the captions are in white as well as much of the background is white or lighter colored. Since I can't understand but a few Korean words and phrases and can't read hangul, it might it a bit of a challenge. That said I loved the poem about being in a cold room with a cricket in the dark chirping and the feelings of loneliness and anxiety. I could definitely empathize.
