LittleMidoriAnna far back in Joseon dynasty, Japan did invade Korea peninsula twice but didn't success. I guess it's safe to say that Japan is more like that smol drunk guy who just try to mess everything up lol
While Korea was suffering from a most harsh Japanese control, the King died of poisoning and her mother died as well. Then, she was forcefully sent to Japan private school in 1925. She was even forced to marry a Japanese, Count So Takeushi. She was forced to live in Japan for next 37 years. She had one daughter with the Count. The Ongjoo was later forcefully sent to a insane asylum by the Count. And her daughter committed suicide 15 years later.
This story is completely wrong. fastskipper777 seems to be too paranoid and has misunderstood history. At that time, Korea was an extremely poor country, and Japan annexed it and invested a huge amount of money and education to make it a modern nation. This is because the level of education in Korea at that time was so low that many of its citizens could not even read. She received a high level of education in Japan. She was treated well in Japan. Her lyric writing ability was recognized, and records of her compositions were released. However, she was later diagnosed as schizophrenic, and on January 26, 1962, she returned to Korea and was admitted to Seoul National University Hospital. At that time, she obtained Korean citizenship with the cooperation of both Japan and Korea. She then died in a hospital in Seoul. Her daughter went on to study English Literature at Waseda University. She married an Japanese English teacher three years older than her whom she met at the university and adopted him. She suffered a nervous breakdown and disappeared on the morning of August 26, 1956, leaving a suicide note in the mountains. However, her whereabouts were never found and she was separated from her husband. Her husband wrote that her body was found about 50 years later. In 2016, the movie "The Last Princess of the Korean Empire" was produced, adapting her as a female fighter who supported the Korean independence movement. But this is a myth.

The suffering of my halmonis life because of Japan’s imperialism and my uhmma having to grow up so poor with my halmonis traumas... led to so much depression in my uhmmas life that I had to grow up with. Generational trauma, passed down that I suffer from today. I carry so much Han (collective Korean pain and injustice) in my heart. When my mother passes I will spread her ashes in the Korean mountains. When I pass, I will have my mothers grandchildren, my nieces, bring me to those mountains to spread my ashes. I am half korean living now in the USA but my whole soul longs to be back in Korea. I will eternally rest my heart full of Han with my ancestors. We will cry in each other’s arms when we are reunited again after I pass. This song makes my soul weep.

She is NOT a Japanese Princess. You are mistaking her for the wife of the last Crown Prince of Korea. Please correct your wrong information. She is the last Princess of the Joseon era (last Kingdom of Korea). Her name is Dukhae Ongjoo (Koreans use the term Ongjoo for a princess who was born not by the Queen). She was the youngest of the King's children. She was born May 25, 1912 and died April 21, 1989. Her life was most harsh and saddest.

*as an Algerian, this hurts me so much because it reminds me of my country, France colonized Algeria and occupied it for 130 years, from 1830 to 1962, my people and ancestors have suffered a lot, the french colonizer was killing, raping and torturing Algerians, the died from hunger and cold, while europeans from different countries took the algerian farmer's land, houses and life. The Algerian people was reduced to slavery and misery, and france has committed hideous crimes, most of them unspoken and hidden from the world, they even used Algerian people in their own fights, they took them to die in WW2. But this was until 1954, when Algerian revolution started, it lasted 7 years but my people took its freedom and the toll from this revolution alone is 1 million and a half martyrs, france military killed families and children, all in front of each other, my grandmother still has the symptoms of a tortured person, mentally and physically, they tried to erase our culture, religion and identity, but that did not happen, i guess the same thing happened to korea, that's why i feel the korean people 🙏🏻*

O many wailing souls that move along the road of death
Who bore affliction to her greatest degree of grief
Who fate tossed mercilessly in the rough yellow seas
Whose plague ridden waters spilled your dry blood
March through this brown forrest who knows thee
Who sustains a tree for each of thine tumultuous lives
Let your stories be eternal in the wood of these silent sages
Who have learnt wisdom not from ink but from tears
Carry these torches that shall bring thine wander to wane
That shall enlighten thee of the purpose of thine lives
Ye people who know pain were martyrs the Great Cause
Ye rose against the tyrants so thine spirits will guide mankind
Have I not spoken and written too much
To express my solemn sorrow sadly stored
I took to allegories and parables and rhyme
For comfort exchanged for the eternal truth
I have such a sad soul who wanders about
Lost in the sea of ignorance with no comforter
I have no anger but simple frustration

My korean isnt the best but its haunting to listen to her singing like this and think about what my grandparents went through in korea because of japan...these photos give me chills as they resemble some i have seen at my grandmas house
That's beautiful melody + nostalgic photos. I do love this video. Thank you!
The moment this song was playing, i feel like my soul has travelled back 150 years ago, witnessing all these happening infront of me. i've already feel so sad imagining myself being in that period where royal family were treated like shit (like princess deokhye) and witnessing how the people suffered in the hands of emperors from China (not all) and also Japanese :((( be right back, i'm crying!
I teared up too. I saw the Gaspin Coup play out. Every detail since I studied it extensively.
such great pics and tune.. thaxxx for sharing.. enjoyed goood!!!
Beautiful song about a very trying time in Korean history.
And now... I still love it
A beautiful song...
What about the Arirang part? The actual lyrics should start with 아리랑, but there is none in the lyrics.
Am I making a mistake, or?
@@jskoh4662 Oh no! I don't speak Korean, and must have gotten the lyrics wrong. So sorry!
@@jonathan_wasilewski Ah, it's completely okay. We all make mistakes, don't worry too much about it 👍

Thanks for sharing these photos along with the traditional music
A powerful, anguishing reminder of the past. Haunting melody. Exquisite presentation. I am quite pleased to have found this video.
Very beautiful video. Thank you for sharing.
Korean & Armenian history is all about survival. No wonder I can hear tunes that sound quite similar to Armenian.
No it's totally different you should search more about it !
@@_yuki9953 Dear Yoo Song, I know history of both nations very well and no need proves. And Arirang is as touching to me as: th-cam.com/video/IsOwgm4tfL4/w-d-xo.html

I miss my village a lot. (In Nepal). looks familiar
Princess, the best of respect and consciences belong to you. Love you rest in peace and be happy with your mother and father. Remember no one can erase who you are because that culture is built into your bones.
Be free and happy❤
I like the pictures from the early days of Korea.
beautiful song, had such a huge impact on me, an American
Oh god such soul wrenching song! ❤
Very sad song. Gasum apuda! Very nice video. Thank you for the upload!
Can't listen to this it bring tears to my eyes. After writing this in stopping T.T
In this sadness they had hope more than we ever have.
Through the blood of dead comfort women tortured by japanese, Through blood on rivers by empress myuong they still live on.
The name of song is like the title says (sad song "BI GA" in Korean meaning "sad song" and you hear Arirang mentioned in the song but it is not the Arirang song, in Korea Arirang connotes difficult cultural period in our history, again this is not the traditional Arirang song or music.
But its refrain is arirang though. Maybe a liberal variation? Or just a nod to its original? I don't know Korean. x)
"Truth is, I don't want to know. Some things are best left unsaid. I'd like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it can't be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you, those voices soared higher and farther than anybody in a gray place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our drab little cage and made those walls dissolve away, and for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free".
Shawshank Redemption
Thanks.
A zene is gyönyörű.
Remélem, békés módon egyesülni fog a két Korea.
How sad this song is...

At 0:39 is a hell of a pair of parasols! So sad that the Cheonggyecheon fell into disrepair before being covered by a highway. It is great, however, that it has been restored after the crumbling elevated highway was removed, even if they did extensively modernize it. Now will one or more of our native Korean friends please translate the lyrics into English?
me too. Yes, it is really beautiful interpretation...
Thanks for this valuable information 😢😢😢😢I feel sad for her 🙏😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

Lyrics

*as an Algerian, this hurts me so much because it reminds me of my country, France colonized Algeria and occupied it for 130 years, from 1830 to 1962, my people and ancestors have suffered a lot, the french colonizer was killing, raping and torturing Algerians, the died from hunger and cold, while europeans from different countries took the algerian farmer's land, houses and life. The Algerian people was reduced to slavery and misery, and france has committed hideous crimes, most of them unspoken and hidden from the world, they even used Algerian people in their own fights, they took them to die in WW2. But this was until 1954, when Algerian revolution started, it lasted 7 years but my people took its freedom and the toll from this revolution alone is 1 million and a half martyrs, france military killed families and children, all in front of each other, my grandmother still has the symptoms of a tortured person, mentally and physically, they tried to erase our culture, religion and identity, but that did not happen, i guess the same thing happened to korea, that's why i feel the korean people 🙏🏻*
What you said it litteraly false.
