Pokemon's New TCG Expansion, Shrouded Fable, has been announced for release on August 2nd. However, are we expecting a complete and utter failure?
The new Shrouded Fable TCG set was released on August 2nd, 2024. While the Booster Pack and ETB Box Art look sensational, the set's potential investment potential and how well it will actually turn out are raising a few eyebrows, mainly due to the Special Illustration Rares' coming across as slightly uninspired.
With Generation 9's DLC, we had "The Loyal Three" emerge with Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti. While these Pokemon have been interesting and connected to the Paldea region, it has raised some interesting questions. While the Pokemon have been fine, some of the artworks for the set have been quite lacklustre. And it seems Pokemon is slightly holding back with Shrouded Fable?
There are many questions to be answered, though Shrouded Fable seems to have left much to be desired.
What are your thoughts on the set? Do you think Shrouded Fable will be a good set to invest in? I'd love to know your thoughts.

The only good thing about this set besides the promos… is that I get more time to focus/build up my inventory on the previous S&V sets before they go up in price lmao.
Don’t have to spend my money on this so it’ll go to the others I really like. Might get a couple collection boxes to keep sealed though that’s for sure
@@goHAM4pokemon The Promos are crazy! The Kingdra BSP looks better than the SIR and that Greninja is damn close to the Greninja SIR from Twilight.. Roped me in good anyway 😂😂😂
Surprised you didn't showcase the Kingdra promo. Also, Kingambit is just an illustration rare collection box. Although, it is really solid art for an IR.
Hard to tell with the set, definitely will be on sale and product won't be sparse for quite a while once it releases that's for sure. The art for the loyal three is quite solid, different approach. But at least for the Japanese version, the texturing is really good on them. Nice little "pop".

I think for the competitive players the set is decent but maybe there will be a certain illustration rare or secret rare that is popular, I also think some of the promos are really cool but im not sure if the set will really do well.
I think the Persian still has a Team Rocket aesthetic with the black and red color pattern. Love the Houndoom too. I'm not too sold on the top 3 illustration cards tho ...

I completely agree, I don’t feel the desire to go after any real chase in this set. Are there some cool cards? Sure. But in terms of a reason to open boxes on boxes of it I don’t feel it. The greninja is solid like you said.
More importantly, shining fates was the beginning of the turn for sword and shield where knock out sets started to roll in. Come holiday season 2024, we might be seeing the beginning of the real scarlet and violet highlights! Who knows.

The set stinks lol you can say it....I do like the Kingdra and Greninja tho, they are stunning...it's a shame they weren't pulls in the set

That greninja promo is a banger. I'm picking that up for sure and it might hurt the previous greninja.

The thing the SAR cards are lacking are the other 3 displayed together with it. The colors of one card does not really stand out and is missing something, but all 4 in a frame would look good.

The promo cards outshine everything else from the set. Maybe these cards look better in person? I feel like the backgrounds are bland, and I won't have to worry about spending a lot on this set. I will get the ETB just because I like to display them and the Greninja and whatever else is just a bonus, or look for singles.
The promos are not from the set tho, it makes sense they are different. I actually do enjoy all the ARs in this set. People make it worse than it is.
@@jankomeisel9568 the loyal 3 cards are pretty average but I agree the ir cards are really cool, they always seem to be. The Duskull line, Houndoom, and Persian for sure.
@@BigPat216 for me Tapu Bullu, Beware and Axew are also pretty strong.
Does anyone think it’s worth preordering the PC ETB. I’ve gotten the PC ETBs of the last 12 sets but I’m on the fence with this one

As a player, this set is great and I am very excited for it as it makes my Charizard deck better. As a collector, I kind of agree with you. I really wish the promos were actually sirs as they are the best arts in the set 😆

You know a set is trash when the best cards are the promo.
While twilight masquerade isn’t great, it has one of the best artwork of Chansey and Eevee. Also the trainer SIRs were on another level.
I think with absolute units for promos, if it has good pull rates, its going to do great 👍 People will buy for the promos and stay for the opening experience

It’s so tough tbh. I really want to like these sets, but man if they’d just be smart and but that greninja and Kingdra in the actual set, make them like a 1/600-1/700 packs to pull, this set could be so amazing. But alas…
The problem is not nearly as many people know the new Pokémon as in depth. I appreciate them needing to keep up with their new Pokémon by including them in sets, but no reason they can’t bring in more well known Pokémon in the main set as a chase.

I don't prefer easy to acquire cards. Idk, but it feels like it takes away the excitement and I prefer that one special moment of happiness when I finally pack a hard to get card...

Shrouded Fable is in an odd spot where the new legendaries are still VERY new. Simply put, it’s going to take some time for people to see if they really like the Pokemon. IMO, Terapagos is a much more standout legendary and will do a much better job headlining SV 07

This set, apart from the select few that you've pointed out, looks like very underwhelming. A year out, I'll buy singles to fill my S&V art binders but that'll be it.
Will only be getting the greninja kingdra in a psa 10 and 1 pokemon center etb. Moving on never looking back.
I wish pokemon would stop putting the best looking cards into promo box’s and things, the sets would benefit soooo much more with just some of these promos being able to be pulled! ie. Charizard upc promos, eeveelutions promos, mew ex 151 and mewtwo, the list goes on
Yeah agreed on this. I understand as it probably helps the sales of these smaller boxes, though the Greninja and Kingambjt deserve a spot as a rare chase!
They could have done so much more with this set. There isn’t one single SIR I wanted. The cards are playable for sure but aside from the IRs and the greninja and kingdra promo, there is nothing I feel like chasing. Imagine if they put a darkrai. Ehh. I’ll get my promos and wait for the dragon set.

1.)The Houndoom I imagine will do well, as I do the Persian, but is that art not Persian in one of Giovanni's mansions?
2.) No love for the Horsea AR/IR?!
3.) The whole lackluster SIR thing has been my opinion since TEF, but tbh it's kind of refreshing, they've reserved SIR's for the "feature Pokemon" (Loyal 3 + Poltchageist in this case) and allowed a few Pokemon you don't often see as Secret Rares / IR's..
4.) I ordered the Kingambit and Kingdra ex Promo Box's, decent value and contents, the Full Art Promo's look like SIR's, which I like, would love the whole Horsea-Kingdra evo line in the set!

Ehh the Houndoom is super underwhelming IMO and I love Houndoom. My boys favorite Pokemon is Houndoom and he agrees, you could say we’re both disappointed lol

That Persian to me comes off as a different perspective of Giovannis Charisma from almost.

Modern collectors are so greedy; if it doesn't go to the moon immediately after going out of print, it may as well be worth 0.
It really looks like they are trying to make a multi card secret rare for shrouded fable that line up together but they don't. Either way, Shrouded fable looks worse than rebel clash so ill pass until they put some real value in the set. Loading up on Twilight. That is a pretty solid set. Don't get me started on that Penny Either.
yes i prefer the Greninja and the others as promos, Pokemon is an expensive hobbie with too many great artworks to buy and collect so as a collector im happy to get some for cheap once in a while
Honestly don’t love some of the art style of the hits.. with that being said, the most random cards sometimes spike, so some might get a nice price because of pull rates. Less people buying the product, harder pull rates (if they continue the trend), and you might find the set rise in price due to scarcity more than popularity

Aside from the Houndoom and Persian....I feel this set is super weak. Will be a good time to save money for that hopeful Team Rocket set in 2025.

A few great art works but on not so popular Pokemon and the best SIRs being promos does this set no favours. Looks like it's going to have a really small set list as well so it shouldn't take too long to master/ pull the chase cards. Can't see this being a great return on investment.

This is worse than Shining Fates. This is more like Champion's Trash.
All the sir's are lackluster imo, you can see they are running out of ideas. Back in the days everyone would have laughed at these weird looking pokemon. They should take their time and make actual good artwork with cool pokemon instead of some weird ass fluo colored looking animals.

Gotta disagree here: I still think Pokemon should be mainly for kids and not investors. It's frustrating to see local kids putting all their money into cards and getting next to nothing while those 30 something sweaty guys pull out their binders with all those horrendous expensive cards. 5€ would be already a lot for a kid. Think Greninja for example: the one from TWM is unaffordable for any kid, yet I bet a lot of them love that thing. Getting an even cooler version (imo) that "easily" is great and we shouldn't talk down on that (like you do here) just because it is a promo.That is what will make it ultimately a bad card. Just because it isn't for investors does not take away from the amazingness of that thing. Moreover, the card isn't even from the set and maybe it will remain the only way to ever obtain that card. you never know. Lastly, I agree with you that the SIRs of the loyal three aren't that exciting, but so are the Pokemon themselves. They went for a sinister villain look (comic-esque) for all three, they all have the same vibe and composition, and they are all bound to that fourth card (peacharunt) by the background and the lore. I think that is a great concept. Maybe the SIRs aren't too hard to pull, maybe we are just spoiled and demand greater and greater art. But they are not as bad as you say.
2024 has been a year of BAD decisions for Pokémon. Shiny Treasure was a disaster. Shrouded Fable is going to be as bad. There's a lot of wonderful art this year, but it's not good enough. The DLC was really poor, and Pecharunt is.... one of the worst Pokémon designs, ever. What is it? A Fig? A blob? The Sie Nanahara promo is amazing, though.
