I will point out that in the 80's Reagan did away with all of the mental institutions, my handicapped brother had a room mate from a mental institution that injured him at a group home, because the mental facility was closed. There are no places to put the mentally ill in the US for the past 40 years. Please Google, and I will also not a lot of our homeless with mental illness are vets who served in our military. Both polital democrats and republicans are to blame for this, cutting funding to the VA. I am an Independant voter tired of both the right and left doing the blame game on each other.

All true. The politicians and the govt. and health system and right wing extremist wankers like Reagan are all to blame for this nightmare situation. You reap what you sow.

He complied with the nonstop litigation and demands by liberal Demoncrat “mental health advocates”.
They were constantly insisting that it was “inhumane” to house the mentally ill in facilities.
That includes DANGEROUS mentally ill and EDPs that were adjudicated mental defective after sick and extremely violent crimes.
I ran an EMS System in a large NJ city during this period of time and clearly remember the rhetoric of the day.
“The mentally ill will be much better off obtaining care in a non confinement environment” is what we kept hearing from the left.
I’m not saying that psychiatric institutions were a panacea. Many were understaffed and not the cleanest facilities, but they kept the general public safe.
Those old facilities are now long gone. The land sold off for suburban housing developments.
And… the public is exposed to insane and VERY VIOLENT & deranged savages.
      The entire system is broken.

Yup crime is inevitable, it’s the sad truth. I’m vigilant on the train, bus, walking, driving. Etc. I still love my city. Just unfortunate that this happened .

Life in this State is getting unbearable. There was also a fight with guns displayed at Roosevelt Field. Only the privileged get to be safe, the rest of us have to live in fear, I'm tired of it.

Judging from the video from the Coney Island woman on fire incident, the cops are just ready to ignore things like this, they can't deny the video evidence either. The video showed
a cop just walking right by the lady on fire in the subway car, ignoring the conflagration. Unreal! The thing is I've been going to Roosevelt Field quite a lot the past year or so again,
usually just to walk the mall with my headphones going, and maybe get a meal there, and i haven't seen too much bad behavior, amazingly, but we know the mall has suffered a lot of crime and fights and gang crap, and even some shootings the past 10 years or so. None of these places are safe anymore, really, and, I notice that the mall has some security, guys with
dogs patrolling it, and sometimes some marked NCPD inside and outside the mall, but mainly that's at the holidays. And still this kind of nonsense is going on there.

NYC and it's public transit system have become a human rights disaster. Passengers have a human right to be safe and feel safe especially during the holidays. You shouldn't have to take your headphones out. I don't want rude people trying to talk to me on the train do you?
