  • Hey guys my name is noah!! In this video I confront the issue of slipping handle bars, this is when your bars move forward and backwards while you're riding. This is the first in a series of videos i would like to call bike hacks, where i show you how to fix certain things and show you easier ways of doing things that you will experience while riding BMX.

    I got an idea that I haven't tried yet but I think might work really good. Try wrapping the bars in Teflon tape where the grooves are. Since Teflon tape is used for plumbing and stuff to wrap threads and pipes to create a water tight seal, it holds the pipe threads in place and in my mind that makes me think it would be good to stop bar slip. Plus if the bars are wrapped in Teflon tape it would prevent the metal on metal scraping caused by the grooves in the bars and not create any grit.

      @p3nisqueef818 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I dont think that would work the tape is kind of a lubricant because with the tape you can twist fittings more with them on so with the bars it might encourage slipping

      Nah bro i tried it slips more

    • @doodbro931
      @doodbro931 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@emojipark yeah that makes sense. I thought Teflon tape added friction or grip to things, because I've only seen it used on threading for metal pipes, so it made sense to me that if it can add grip to metal pipe threads then it should do the same to handle bars

    Cool Video, I'm 51 and I've always used a used toothbrush or a wire brush on the handlebars to get the dirt and grit out of the grooves to get it a way better grip. Using a T-shirt does clean them but not as good... Keep up the cool work.

    A wire brush instead of sand paper would work a little better so you have the stem longer you can also take that wire brush to the bars

    I used to just used a layer or two of duck tape and it usually worked. If you have a hand file you could put groves into the metal so it grips better.

    Yeah this should help with bars on my motorcycle. Some problem when I go off road, standing position puts enough pressure to shove them down against my tank. Not the greatest when I'm on a 1 foot wide dirt trail with rocks on either side. Thanks!

      Its easy. If its keeps slipping because its has no grips or thread alread to be clamped or press by the stem . The solution is a tin can. Cut square pieces or fold up and down between the bars in the stem to be clamped like a sandwich. I learned it from my friend from year 2017 up until now i been using these method cause I dont have budget for new bars. And I dont intend to buy cause ive used my old bars when i do 5-6ft drop stage way back before and its pretty strong . But havent tested these tin can method in high drops. But its strong doing 180 360 drops on pads it doesnt have a slipping problem. And the 2nd solution if you cant afford to buy new ones is cut the tube replace it thats what my friend 2nd method itried it and its pretty strong. For drops .but still depend if your a pro or massive I dont recommend it
