Wonderful music that I have never heard before. Our two local classical music stations regard Enescu as a one-work composer

Nous n'écoutons pas Enescu sans investir un peu de réflexion et de temps à sa philosophie et son inspiration, pour pouvoir respirer les parfums de son architecture musicale prodigieuse !!!

It has to be said that this isn't the best of Enescu. The first two movements are all rather shapeless and meandering and the third lacks memorable material ... (The recording shows its age, too.) Listen to his Octet for an altogether different experience: magical, thrilling life-affirming ... Thanks for posting, though. Always interesting to explore and discover.

Joseph Laredo Yes, well, "meandering" could easily describe a great part of his work. Not in a negative way, mind you. From what I've heard, clarity of structure was not Enescu's main concern. On the contrary, I feel a sort of "stream of consciousness"-like quality about his music that gives it its unique charm.
