Enesco's music is all just wondrous and so poetic and full of drama. You can feel the man's soul. This is a very long sonata at 40 minutes!! Long enough to be a *long* concerto, in fact! I remember talking to one of my teachers - I am a violinist - about Enesco many years ago. He said that Enesco was very popular during his time as an eccentric musician. He mentioned that he was a violinist but also played the cello and piano competently. How many people can do that?! My teacher may have met him, I wish I could remember. Enesco was a genius, there is no question of that. Thankfully many of his pieces are here for free listening on TH-cam.
That moment you realize he was only 17 y.o. when he composed this!

yikes!
Greetings from Romania !
Enescu is always unexpectedly captivating.
This impeccable performance is the lubricant that opens the door to the rusted and parched soul
Oeuvre au superbe magnétisme.
Interesting and bold the way instruments interplay creating a rich atmosphere of compelling sounds. Greetings from la paz California México
Listening to this a second time on 12 October 2017. Still wonderful
Stunning, beautiful, haunting sonata from young Enescu!
Brilliant! Both the musicians played great, too.
LOVE LOVE LOVE
Genius LOVE every note
Très belle éxécution d'une œuvre géniale. Merci.
Meravigliosa sonata, molto emozionante e profonda.
Glad to have found this work on You Tube. As far as our two local classical music stations are concerned, Enescu was a one-work composer.
what's the one work?
@@RafaelR-F Most probably one of his two Romanian Rhapsodies:

He hated being associated with his Rhapsody. He said it overshadowed his entire output.
such a hypnotizing piece
Quelle douceur, ce gingasie, specific sufletului românesc!
What a super Sonata of a Composer I have never heard. Great performance by the duo!
Aside from this being awesome, he's peering into my soul...
Bravo bravo bravo
Thank you so much for this, Stanimir! I, like so many of the other commentators, had no idea of Enescu's work beyond the Rumanian Rhapsody n. 1 -- which I have loved since childhood.
You are most welcome. And thank you for taking the time to comment. If you liked this you might want to take a gander at the other Enescu works posted on my channel.

if he hadn't been a composer, Enescu could have modeled for GQ or Men's magazine--striking good looks--those eyes! All Romanian men such good looking?
Look at Ravel too!
More than good looking they are good thinkers.
Yes :)
P. S. I'm Romanian
yes, we all good looking mfs
My daughter says they all look like vampires. Enescu certainly is case in point.

yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
Enesco belongs to thois generation of composers who believrd that the flokloric music of their native country could be a fresh ane renewed source of inspiration. Thois concpt is a bit limited oce the first expériences made. These composers were challenged by Bartok, who went far beyond this flokloric inspiration to create a new language. Eneco belongs more or less to this family of compoers. His inspiration is rather postromantic with contrapunctic episodes, as shown in this piano/cello sonata. It is not a great mastrwork to be fully honest, but it is quite pleasant to hear.

I know it’s pretty late to tell you this, after 6 years, but calling Romanians as gipsies, especially him, is nothing less than an insult to him and his entire nation. We should not be compared to the ones belonging to a nomad tribe, travelling from the northern part of what’s nowadays India, seeking a patch of land to call home, because no-one wanted to host peoples of a tribal statute and who act with full greed even while befriending others. They don’t belong to Europe, or to any modern society. They are not Romanians, and we are not gipsies, I hope I made myself clear, and wish you a good day sir!
Fine virtuoso performance by Stanimir Leca of this Enescu cello sonata.

At two minutes in I wanted the march-like theme to change. Commenting on below, Mozart indeed composed at a young age but did not write much of emotional weight until the violin concerti of 1775 (I think). Not like Enescu or Mendelssohn whose youthful works are deep.
This cellist is often out of tune. Guess I wish there was more positive to observe here.
