Who are the two that didn’t like this?? Additionally, this is far from a man who is a beginner. Absolutely beautiful.

Magnificent Piano Quartet, which looks back at Beethoven in addition to paving the way to Mendelssohn (20 years old at the time of the composition). Once more many thanks to KuhlauDiffeng2 for his excellent choice of music.

Excuse me but in case of Mendelssohn being 20 was already an advanced artistic maturity.

Much fun to hear this work that evokes Beethoven and Weber (even Schubert in the high piano register contrast with the strings). It's a nice, well-balanced and fluid work, tuneful and genuine. It is also elegantly performed by all, especially the flowing pianist.

Kuhlau is mainly known by easy pieces written for beginners; This kind of piece proves that he was a great composer, which could build very firm and ambitious forms.

He was great!... and a warm human, who did what he could to help family in need. He housed his old parents in his little apartment in Copenhagen and described how his demented mother were minding her imagined chickens in the livingroom. Once a cousin of his, living in America, very much wanted to become a musician. Kuhlau saw to it and got him to Denmark. Well, Kuhlav was not rich, because he was unable to fight for the higher wages, his colleagues got. He was, indeed a very kind and caring man.

Kuhlau is the nearest thing to a Beethoven tribute band. The scherzo here uses the scherzo theme from his hero's Opus 2 No 3 sonata and transposes it into the minor. Quite effective.

The Scherzo actually starts on 14:35

This quartet is firmaly written and well balanced. This being said, it does not brig anything very new to the genre and to the music in partticuler; But it is very nice to hear.

23:45 sounds more like Mendelssohn’s piano concerto in A minor 2nd movement.

Who is the painter of the picture ?

    • @Indo49

It is called Young Boy Seated on a Wall Overlooking Capri by Vilhelm Kyhn. I quote KuhlauDilfeng2. Some 7 years ago I had the same question and KuhlauDilfeng2 answered it. From Wikipedia: Peter Vilhelm Carl Kyhn (March 30, 1819 - May 11, 1903) was a Danish landscape painter who belonged to the generation of national romantic painters immediately after the Danish Golden Age and before the Modern Breakthrough. Even though he outlived many of his artistic peers by several decades, he remained a traditionalist and expressed strong criticism of many of the new trends in the painting of his day.

No, not the recordings, the books of this music. I'd like the fun of playing it with my own group here at home.
