Ah what its like to not fight rust every step of the way 😂.
Tips that workwd for me, fully saturate the bolts on both sides with WD40 and keep going back to respray it after some hours to make sure its not dry (you want it still wet looking, thats when the rust is fully saturated like a soaked sponge).
Once saturated, get a wire brush and get around the bolts, threads and nuts to clean the surfaces up.
Give it a go and hope it comes loose (breaker bars help)
big facts here for the salty north -- it's not about power, it's about finessing rusty nuts and bolts with hopes and prayers
I just did the same thing on our 2016 Foz XT. we just dropped the ball joint way instead. worked a treat.
I have a 2013. Just noticed clicking on my passenger side the other day. Great video. Will be helpful
Mad video 🙌 just had mine starting to click and ordered new ones. This video was perfect
Glad I could help mate!
How have these been holding up? Any additional vibrations? Your supposed to match the front axels if you use the heavy duty ones. Both of my front axels are shot and they are only 50k miles on them.
Had no issues mate but I've sold the car now so can't give you any further updates
@@00Lach Thanks for the reply, appreciate you!
Very nice job with the video! You put a lot of work into this one and it shows!
My '12 WRX hatch has suffered the same fate and needs new axles in the front.
I'm curious, did you use an aftermarket part? If so, which one? They look a bit different from the OEM shafts.
Thanks for your feedback mate! Yeah I used a generic aftermarket CV from Autopro.
@@00Lachso the axles just come out of the gear box I thought there would be a locking pin
@@spyro2202 Yeah I could just yank them out and put them back in. Was a bit of an effort but no locking pin
Great instructional video!! What hp/torque rating is that new front axle and where did you purchase it? I've seen 800hp rated axles, but they do not look like yours.
Thanks mate, it was an OEm rated axel so nothing over and above there.
I think even the regular OEM ones are good for over 600HP. The 800hp ones are made for really hard launches at the drags.
Hi Lachy, great vid. My 2011 G3 WRX Hatch just started making the clicking noise on the right front side. You bought your cv/driveshaft from Autopro, do you happen to know exactly which one? Autopro have various options on their website for our make/model to choose from. Ta - Luke
Hey mate I bought the Protex CV and I believe it was the cheapest of them all. Just make sure you enter your vehicle in the search function so it knows what model number to give you.
This is the easiest way, just mark the bolts with a paint stick to save on an alignment.
Do the 2011 sti cv axles work for the the wrx tranny I’m trying to swap my steering knuckle wheel hub assembly
are those axle worth it? i been contemplating on those or just a heavy duty OE
Yeah 100%, felt OEM and was a whole lot cheaper
Hey locky great vid, where did you buy your drive shaft from?
AutoPro
Awesome video Lachie, are we keeping the REX when the 86 arrives?
Thanks for your feedback mate! Unfortunately no, we will be getting rid of it 🥲 Wish I had the funds to keep it though...
Im trying to do this , but i cant manage to insert back again 😔
The strut is what I can't get to align with the wheel..seems the strut somehow dropped a bit, at least that's how it seems. 🤔
Milwaukee impact gets them of ez, don’t even need to take the indentation out of the bolt, did the job on my Rex in half an hour but that’s after doing this about 20 times on other peoples cars of wrecking them out
Impact drill is on the Christmas list that's for sure!
@@00Lach 100% do it, my one is 6 years old still goes mint, if you see one used too I’d buy it, that’s what I did and it’s awesome
Does the new heavier beefier shaft cause any mis balance or torque steer issues vis a vis the shaft on the other side?
No, not that I could feel
Hi do you know what type of bulbs does your c headlights take thank you
The C light is an LED strip but the headlights themselves are the OEM HIDs. More info on my install video for them!
Oh sorry I forgot to write the high beam the low beam is DS2 do you know about high beam bulbs thank you
Did you need to change the CV axle seal ?
Nope
My guy from where im from those are the axles not drive shaft 😅
