@@gegeji6442 they really went to the very very old school game design here. Its entertaining to watch your favorite streamer to play it, but not so much if it is by yourself, at least for me.
@@KABLAMMATS yeah well the team are beat an ups veterans so during testing they usually didn't need longer than an hour to finish an run and thought that it's too much of a short time to build in save states and it's kinda like a coin arcade. They simply weren't expecting that the general playerbase aren't that good and need much longer to beat a run.
Yeah it baffles me how hardcore we are back then lol. The most closer stuff probably some game have "Code/Password" where you can continue at some point with the same stats, that stuff was really mind boogling back then.
Games were much shorter, on average, back then. A Beat-Em-Up like this might take 30-60 minutes to complete at the time. We've seen a resurgence of the genre recently but there's this dilemma where its either too short or too long and tedious. Honestly the levels in Holo X Break do feel too long and repetitive (though I do enjoy it as a fan).
It actually happened to me as well... finished the first area, left the game thinking "time for a small break, lets continue later" and then when I returned I realised "wait... oh no"
Its like old side scrolling combat games. I cant remenber their names but i remenber back in the day a game named golden axe on the megadrive. There was no save, and it was super duper long. But it was really good
yeah i found that out when i got to La+ but couldn’t beat her and didn’t want to try again. honestly the game is good but as someone who’s played a lot of beat em ups in my life i think the charge times for your specials should either be slightly shorter or you get a few hits of super armor while charging them so you aren’t always getting knocked out of them. i know some of the items do stuff like that but i think relying on good RNG to be able to properly use your character is rather frustrating especially when you are trying to solo the game.
It's manageable for characters that don't need to be up in the opponent's face (Botan/Lui/To a degree Polka's special 2) But if you're Lamy with that tiny ass range on Special 2, yeah it's rough.
The lack of saves is why I have only played it for two runs so far: Once and got to Lui before stopping for a bit to cool off after the double tap of Kaela taking 20,000 coins and not giving me a tier 3 upgrade, them having to go into that boss with no fan support and low powered gear. Then twice to learn there was no save function. Then closed the game until I heard of a save character update.
This was intended game design modeled after Little Fighter 2 with the arcade mode play style but at least with LF2, you get to choose wat stage you start with. 😁
I think the game not saving will be okay if only the online features got implemented. Still a fun game i completed story mode in 2 hours. I used Nene and her heals made me survive the whole thing
Tbh maybe not, for all the retro games we've seen her play, the only thing in a similar ballpark as your average side scrolling beat'em up is that River City Ransom game a few months back, and something she was having a collab with Pekora in waaaay back several years ago, could just be a coincidence but it might just be a genre she's not really into like others.
Found out right away when i tried to see what each chara can do. My average run on story mode are 1h 20mins, hard mode takes longer. Maybe you can clear it faster on Co-op, idk.
Bruh, that's how i literally felt when i realize when i was playing a JRPG for the first time as a kid that i wasted a 8 hours straight progress( i literally played the game for 8 hours straight) and just realized that the game doesn't have any progression save. I pretty much played that game again just this last 2 years in an emulator to actually progress on it. But i got bored as i just realized how limited the stuff that you could do in those old RPGs. I actually already forgotten the name of the game but at least it provided me with a good childhood memories.
Tbh, no save progress kinda have it charm, how many of you remember that to clear bare knuckle 1, you must done in 1 sitting and not picking the wrong option in the last battle, else back to stage 6 and redo everything 🥲 Now that I think everything again, that pretty hardcore.
Aside from suspended save I wish the enhance rate was higher to lessen the RNG on item builds because losing all coins from failing to enhance makes you just used the gold item with unwanted stats and effect.
the game itself is surprisingly hard for casual players. you will do roll and hits a lot in this game (kinda like soul game) so button masher will not be good if you plan to beat the game, bc the enemy will outnumber you in the end-game stage.
@FreakGeSt hace 0 segundos I was stuck against La+ with Polka because I ignore upgrading my gears, almost 4 hours, restart with Botan and upgrading properly I clear it in less than 2 hours, that was old school brutality, need at least save between stages. Also, I don't like charge attack and grab weapon are the same charge button, with Polka's special 1 that was a pain to use because she summon weapons all over the stage making imposible to use charge attacks.
I fully admit I had the same thing happen, but moreso because I needed a break, and when I came back, everything was gone, yeah… Really enjoy the game but it’s kind of brutal, especially playing alone when Kay Yu has stated that you NEED friends to beat it

Had all the emotes i bought so i knew it had save data. Eventually i realized from kaela herself. Telling me it dont save. Gotta 1 and done it. Came back later to beat it with Botan. Im using polka and died at chloe.(All my hp depleted) It put me back to 3-3.(although i stopped playing, i also need to eat lol) Or are you talking about the character level being back to 1?
Kay mentioned adding saves cause they were quite surprised a lot of people were taking more than 50-90 minutes to finish a run. This game IS the same genre as all classic beat-em-ups in arcades like streets of rage. And all of those didn't have saves either. Personally I think they should add a classic mode where you run without saves and a new normal mode that has the saves for more casual gamers or gamers unfamiliar with the genre.
